Chapter 16

REED

I’m in the middle of making Lexie a plant stand for her living room, when I get a notification that she’s left her apartment.

I open the app and see the little car icon moving across the screen. My heart races in my chest as I watch the little dot make its way into the fraternity neighborhood.

I exit out and send a message in the group chat with the guys.

REED:

Either of you free?

Isaac:

Currently in the middle of something.

Kalix:

I’ve got nothing going on right now.

REED:

Kalix, I need you to ride with me.

Kalix:

Bikes or your car?

REED:

Car.

Kalix:

I’ll be there in 10.

REED:

Try to make it faster.

I pull my hoodie on over my head and make it down to the parking garage just as I hear Kalix’s bike.

We both jump in the car and I peel out of the garage, heading towards my woman.

“So, where we going?” Kalix says as he thumbs through his phone.

“Frat party.” I say.

He sucks his teeth, “Dude, that’s why you needed me to ride with you?”

I glance over at him.

“It’s Lexie. I’m just going to go in and grab her then we are leaving.”

“Ah. Okay. I was about to ask you if you're sick, because you hate those sorts of parties.”

I stay silent for the rest of the short ride.

When we pull up there are cars lined down both sides of the street with not a free spot in sight.

Fuck it. I place my car in park in the middle of the street.

“Uh I don’t think you can park here.” Kalix says, looking around.

“I’m not. You’re going to drive around until you find a parking spot and meet me inside.” I swing the door open and walk around the front.

“You must really got it bad if you’re letting me drive your car.” Kalix says as he slips into the driver seat.

“Just don’t fucking wreck it.” I yell over my shoulder as I head inside.

As I’m walking through the crowd, I tap my fingers against my thigh, trying to calm myself before I make a scene. I told her not to come, and she didn’t listen and now I can’t find her through the crowd of drunk douchebags.

I skim the rooms as I make my way through the house. Solo cups and beer cans litter every surface. It reeks of alcohol, weed and cheap perfume.

My heart starts to race as I check each room and come up empty. By the time I check out back by the pool and come in through the back door, I see Kalix.

“Did you find her?” He asks.

“Does it look like I fucking found her?” I say irritated.

He just rolls his eyes, “Have you checked upstairs yet?”

I shake my head and spot the staircase then stalk towards it. I don’t have to look behind me to know that he’s following me. He doesn’t like these parties just as much as I do.

We take an immediate right after we get to the landing and start swinging doors open.

Someone yells “Want to join?” as I open a door and there are two people fucking on a bed.

I ignore them and go to the next. A locked door.

I bang on it and a couple seconds later a guy who looks like he’s stoned out of his mind opens the door and say’s “Sorry man. I was taking a leak.” I grab him by his shirt and yank him out of the bathroom, searching for Lexie, but come up empty.

I quickly make my way through more bedrooms that she’s not in.

Where the fuck is she?

I get to the end of the hall and try to turn the knob but it won’t budge. It’s locked.

I bang on it.

“Go away!” A voice that I feel like I’ve heard before, yells.

I bang again, “Open up.”

“Fuck off.” The voice yells again.

I tilt my head towards Kalix before kicking the door and breaking the lock.

I quickly scan the room, and then I see her and those familiar blonde waves that I would recognize anywhere. The second I recognize fuck face Johnny with his hands on her, everything goes red.
