Chapter 28 - Miles

I knocked on Laura's office door and found her sitting at her desk, her eyes glued to her ring. I couldn't help but smile, seeing how her eyes sparkled as she moved her hand.

"Someone really likes her ring," I said as I leaned against the door frame.

She looked up and blushed. "Sorry, it's the nicest thing I have."

I walked over and placed my hands on the desk. "Well, I'm glad you like it."

"I love it," she said, placing her hands down. "What do you need?"

"Ayden is calling a meeting," I said, nodding to the hallway.

"Oh shit, I guess I didn't hear that." She pulled herself up, rounding her desk. I kissed the top of her head.

We headed into the kitchen, where everyone else was sitting around the counter. I had saved her a seat and stood beside her while Ayden stood in the front, clearly having something in his head.

"Great, now that we are all here, we have some important information to go over." Ayden rolled his shoulders back. "We have been having too many fires and accidents over the past year."

I had thought we were having more, but I'd also have a lot of other things on my mind to notice if we had.

"The museum fire, plus three of the other fires we had this year, were all man-made," Owen said, shaking his head. "All too large to just be a coincidence."

"Man-made?" Laura looked up from her ring, confusion covering her face. "You mean someone deliberately did this?"

I glanced at Laura, taking her hand. While she was working for us, she still had a lot to learn. We didn't like to speak about the past and what happened between Ashley and Logan, but it would appear that wasn't going to be an option.

"Are we talking about Logan?" I asked, raising an eyebrow.

Ayden nodded his head.

"I thought he wasn't being spotted in town," Cayden asked, looking irritated. "Or has that changed?"

Ayden shook his head. "There is still no sign of him, but we are all aware of what he can do. With him not speaking with us and pulling away, we have no idea what's going on in their pack or what he's planning."

My stomach sank, and I swallowed. Laura rubbed her hands together, and I knew she was thinking about Michael. He had been at the museum when the fire happened.

"We must cut ties with the pack for everyone's safety. This means we will have to patrol our borders better, which means everyone will be putting in more hours."

"Hold on," Laura shook her head. "You guys do that on top of everything here?"

Owen waved a hand. "In a way. We've not had to patrol our boards like this before. This is all new to us."

Laura looked at me, and I could see the worry written across her face.

"This is going to be a very stressful time, so everyone needs to prepare themselves. We have been friendly with the pack for generations, so people will have feelings about this. But in the long run, the point is keeping everyone safe until we can get to the bottom of this."

"How long is this going to be?" Lucas asked.

Ayden shrugged. "I don't know. I have been trying to play nice, but it's going nowhere. I'm not playing nice anymore."

I ground my teeth together. I could see the look of exhaustion on him and Owen's face. Over the past year, I could tell things were starting to weigh on them a little more.

"Is this because of what happened with Ashley?" I asked, glancing at Owen.

I saw his jaw tense up and his nostril flared. He shrugged. "It was, but this is more. Word is Logan has been behaving this way with all the packs, and they think he's planning on going against anyone."

We hadn't had a change in pack leaders in years. Most leaders handed the spot down to their sons. The thought of a fight breaking out made me uneasy. People got hurt, and packs often were ripped apart when sides were forced to pick.

"When is this happening?" Thomas asked, leaning back in his chair.

"Tomorrow," Ayden said. "I already sent a letter."

Everyone fell silent, and we all knew what this meant. The pack was going to be on high alert, and people were going to voice their opinions. Everyone had been walking on eggshells over the past year, but that was soon going to change.

Ayden leaned back. "That's all. You guys should all head home. Starting tomorrow, I'm going to start up a sheet for whoever is going to be working overnight on patrol. We will have the police station help, too. I should know more details tomorrow."

As he dismissed everyone, Laura turned to me. I could see the concern on her face. "What does this mean?"

"We can talk about it at home," I said, taking her hand. "Let's just get home."

The drive was quiet, and as we pulled into the driveway, I looked at the neighbor's house. "Is Michael coming home?"

She shook her head. "No, I told him he could stay overnight."

"That's probably a good thing," I said as we got out of the car. Inside, Laura was quick to turn to me. "What does this mean for you guys?"

"Patrolling," I said with a shrug. "It's watching our boarding and not allowing anyone to pass from that side of the pack. Which means we need to talk with Michael about where we can and can't go when he goes out for runs."

She made a face as she slipped off her shoes. "He only ever goes with you, so that shouldn't be a problem. Should I be worried about all this?"

I reached out for her, pulling her against my chest. I wiped her hair back. The last thing I wanted her to do was worry more than she already did. "No, you shouldn't. We will be fine."

She swallowed. "You say that, but from what I heard, it's not that simple."

"It is," I said, pressing my forehead to hers. "Because Ayden has an amazing Alpha, and he makes sure we are safe. This sucks, but it's for the best, and I'm sure it's only for a short time."

Her shoulders sank. "I hope that's true."

Laura moved, heading into her bedroom and towards her closet. I stepped into her room behind her. I watched her walk, and I leaned against the door frame.

She paused, raising an eyebrow at me. "You're staring."

"I can't help it," I said, smiling. You're going to be my wife."

She blushed, walking back towards me. "I am, aren't I?"

I reached out, pulling her against me. I pressed my forehead against her and inhaled her scent. She smelt like lemons today, and it made my head spin.

She reached up, her hands placed gently against my chest. "We have the house to ourselves."

I smirked. "I know, I was thinking of sleep, but clearly, you had something else in mind."

She snorted. "Don't even try telling me you came over here because you wanted to sleep."

I pulled her chin, pressing her lips against mine. She was quick to kiss me back, her fingers curling against my shirt.

"You are not wrong," I chuckled, hoisting her into the air and turning us towards the bed. We fumbled onto it, Laura laughing as I pinned her down, holding her hands above her head.

"Shouldn't we be talking about what to expect tomorrow?" she asked as I kissed her neck.

"No," I said, shaking my head. "I want to spend tonight like tomorrow isn't happening."

I could hear the pitch in her voice change as I kissed her collarbone, my hands pulling her shirt up slightly, exposing her belly button.

"God, you smell good," I growled, pulling my hand up further until I could cup her breast. She inhaled sharply, and I bit gently against her neck. Her back arched, and she softly moaned.

I rolled her left nipple, pressing her hands harder against the bed above her head. She wiggled under me, her thighs rubbing together.

"Miles," she whimpered.

I smirked, running my tongue down her stomach. "You still thinking about tomorrow?"

She quickly shook her head, and her voice came out as if it were pitched. "No. I'm not thinking about tomorrow."

"Good," I said, grabbing her jeans and popping them open. "Because we don't need to."

I slid my hand down, finding her clit and rubbing my finger over it with a gentle touch. Her eyes hazed over as she bit into her lip, a moan barely escaping her mouth.

"You keep your hands here," I ordered, letting go of them as I pulled her jeans down. She wiggled as I pulled, and I tossed her jeans onto the ground. I pulled at her shirt, unbuttoning the front, finding she was wearing a pink lace bra. The set was hot, and it made my cock ache.

"Cute," I growled. "Almost like you were anticipating this."

"Me?" She raised an eyebrow. "Never."

I smirked at her, grabbing at a piece of the bra. The fabric was soft. "I almost don't want to take this off of you."

"Who said you have to?"

I smirked, rubbing her nipples through the fabric. Laura bucked, her legs rubbing together roughly. Her hands came down, grabbing my shirt, and I stopped pulling them back up. "You don't listen well."

She gave me a pouty expression, and I reached for my tie from last night, lying on the ground. I wrapped it around her hands, and I watched her grow giddy. I tied her hands up and around her metal bed frame. Once I was sure she was secure, I leaned back.

"That was unnecessary," she said, rolling her eyes.

"You don't listen well." I purred, placing my hands on her hips.

I kissed her stomach, leaving a trail as I traveled up to her breast. I blew on her nipples, tugging at them once more. Laura pulled on the tie, but it didn't give.

I kissed back down her stomach, my hands traveling down to her ass. She moaned, and it was music to my ears.

I kissed her hip bone and then over to her other side. Laura whimpered. "Miles, you're being cruel."

I chuckled. "I'm not. I'm only kissing you."

I kissed just above her underwear line, and I could smell her need. She was intoxicating, and I wanted to devour her whole.

"Please," she begged.

I slid a hand under her underwear, finding her soaking wet. I slid a finger into her, and she clenched around me. I moved slowly, teasing her. Laura pulled on the tie, her eyes watching me.

I pulled at her underwear, ripping them off her. I slid a second finger into her, curling my fingers up slightly. A new moan slipped from her lips, louder than the first. "Oh god."

I wiggled my fingers, curling them and uncurling them inside her. Her breath started to grow heavier, and her head tumbled back.

I could feel she was getting close, and before she could release herself, I pulled my hands back. Her eyes snapped to me, and she scowled.

"You are cruel."

I chuckled, pulling at my pants and tugging them down. "Maybe a little."

"I'm going to tell Michael."

I laughed. "Go ahead, tell him I'm cruel. The kid loves me now." She couldn't argue because he did. Michael and I had a bond that couldn't be broken after everything.

Her eyes went to my boxers, where my cock sat tucked away. It was hard and pulsing. I wanted to sink into her so badly, but I was taking this slow. I wanted tonight to last because who knew what was waiting for us in the future?

I pulled my boxers down, and her eyes looked at me, hungry. I slid my hand over my cock, watching her eyes watch. I pulled my hand up, licking it, and pulled it back down, stroking my shaft roughly.

She tugged on the tie and then whined. "Miles."

I walked over, continuing to stroke myself, moving my hand roughly, pulling myself close to my own release.

I crawled between her legs and spread them apart. She swallowed as I rubbed the head against her entrance. I didn't push in, instead sliding the head up and down from her clit to her ass. I could feel her legs clench around me, her face telling me she was flustered and frustrated.

"Miles," she panted. "Please."

"Please, what?"

Her eyes glazed over, and she whined once more. "Fuck me."

I pulled a hand up, placing it gently on her throat. I slid into her in one thrust, and her eyes rolled back as she clenched around me.

"Because you asked me so nicely," I growled into her ear.

I moved roughly, feeling her clench tighter around me with each thrust. She moaned, and it was only a moment before she orgasmed, her body clenching around my cock, and I came with her.

We fumbled back into the sheets after I untied her arms. She curled against me and sighed. "I love you."

She had no idea how much I loved hearing those words. I smiled at her. "And I love you. And I love Michael.”

I pulled her tighter against me, kissing her cheek. “You both mean the world to me.”

Laura smiled. “I feel the same, and I hope the future is just as amazing as these past six months have been.”

I turned, flicking the lamp off, and relaxed against her. “I hope it's better.”
