11. Bella #2
“I love you too,” I reply, pulling him closer. “Show me. Show me how much you love me.”
And he does, making love to me with a tenderness and passion that leaves me breathless. Afterward, as we lie tangled together, I feel more content than I ever have in my life.
“You saved my life that day,” I say softly, breaking the comfortable silence. “The day you found me running in my wedding dress. You saved my life, Adrian.”
Adrian is quiet for a moment, his fingers tracing patterns on my bare shoulder.
“That’s true,” Adrian says. “But it’s not the whole truth. Bella, I was there because… because I couldn’t stay away. Even before I knew about Marcus’s plan to leave you at the altar, I knew I had to see you that day. I had to be near you.”
“Why?” I ask, my heart racing.
Adrian takes a deep breath. “Because I was already in love with you. I had been for months. Ever since that business conference where I first saw you, I couldn’t get you out of my head.
I tried to tell myself it was just attraction, just fascination.
But the truth is, I was falling in love with you long before you even knew I existed. ”
I feel tears streaming down my face. “Adrian…”
“I know it sounds crazy,” Adrian continues.
“I know it sounds like something out of a movie. But it’s the truth.
When I found out about Marcus’s plan to humiliate you, I was devastated.
Not just because it was wrong, but because I couldn’t stand the thought of you being hurt.
I had to do something. I had to be there for you, even if you didn’t know why. ”
“So when you found me running in the street…” I trail off.
“It wasn’t a coincidence,” Adrian confirms. “I was looking for you. I knew you’d run. I knew you’d need someone. And I wanted to be that someone. I wanted to be the one to catch you when you fell.”
I’m crying openly now, overwhelmed by the depth of his love, by the realization that he’s been protecting me, fighting for me, loving me for so much longer than I knew.
“You were there,” I say, my voice breaking. “You were there when I needed you most. You caught me. You saved me.”
“You saved me too,” Adrian says, wiping away my tears. “You gave me a reason to believe in love again. You showed me that it’s possible to find someone who sees you, really sees you, and loves you anyway.”
“I do see you,” I say, cupping his face in my hands. “I see your strength and your kindness and your fierce protectiveness. I see the man who would do anything for the people he loves. I see the man I want to spend the rest of my life with.”
Adrian kisses me again, and this time it’s slow and deep and full of promise. We make love again, and it’s different this time - more emotional, more intense. It’s a reaffirmation of everything we are to each other, everything we’ve overcome, everything we’re building together.
Afterward, as I’m drifting off to sleep in Adrian’s arms, I think about how far I’ve come. A year ago, I was running from a wedding, broken and humiliated and lost. Now, I’m lying in bed with the man I love, carrying his child, planning our wedding, building our future.
Life has a funny way of working out. Sometimes the worst moments lead to the best outcomes. Sometimes you have to lose everything to find what you were really meant to have.
And sometimes, the man who saves you is the man you were meant to find all along.
The next few weeks pass in a blur of wedding preparations and doctor’s appointments and work. Adrian’s sustainable energy project is taking off, and he’s asked me to be his partner in the venture. I’ve agreed, excited about the opportunity to build something meaningful together.
“You’re brilliant at this,” Adrian tells me one day as we’re reviewing business plans. “You see connections and opportunities that I miss. We make a great team.”
“We do,” I agree, smiling at him. “In business and in life.”
In just a few days, I’m going to marry the man I love, surrounded by the people who matter most to us.
The night before the wedding, Sarah comes over to help me pack for the cabin. We’re leaving first thing in the morning, and I want to make sure I have everything I need.
“Are you nervous?” Sarah asks as we’re folding clothes.
“Not nervous,” I say. “Excited. Happy. Ready.”
“Good,” Sarah says, smiling. “Because you deserve this, Bella. You deserve all the happiness in the world.”
“Thank you,” I say, pulling her into a hug. “For everything. For being there for me through all of this. For never giving up on me.”
“That’s what best friends are for,” Sarah says, hugging me back. “Now come on, let’s finish packing. You have a wedding to get to.”
The morning of the wedding dawns clear and beautiful. Adrian and I drive up to the cabin together, our hands clasped, both of us giddy with excitement.
When we arrive, the cabin is already decorated with simple white flowers and candles. Hunter and Sarah have arrived ahead of us and have everything set up perfectly.
“This is beautiful,” I breathe, taking in the scene.
“Not as beautiful as you,” Adrian says, kissing my cheek.
We spend the morning getting ready, Adrian in one room and me in another. Sarah helps me with my hair and makeup, keeping things simple and natural.
“You look stunning,” Sarah says as I slip into my dress. “Adrian is going to lose his mind when he sees you.”
I look at myself in the mirror, and I barely recognize the woman staring back at me. She’s confident, radiant, happy. She’s nothing like the broken woman who ran from a wedding a year ago.
“I’m ready,” I say, turning to Sarah. “Let’s do this.”
The ceremony is held outside, overlooking the lake. It’s intimate and perfect, with just our closest friends and family in attendance. As I walk down the makeshift aisle - no music this time, just the sound of birds and wind in the trees - I see Adrian waiting for me, and my heart swells with love.
He’s wearing a simple gray suit, and he’s looking at me like I’m the most beautiful thing he’s ever seen. When I reach him, he takes my hands in his, and I can see tears in his eyes.
“You’re breathtaking,” he whispers.
“So are you,” I reply.
The ceremony is short and sweet. We exchange vows that we’ve written ourselves, promising to love and support each other through whatever life throws at us. We exchange rings - simple platinum bands that match my engagement ring.
And then the officiant says, “I now pronounce you husband and wife. You may kiss your bride.”
Adrian pulls me into his arms and kisses me, and I feel like I’m floating. This is real. This is my life. I’m married to the man I love, carrying his child, building a future with him.
When we finally break apart, our friends and family are cheering and clapping. Sarah is crying happy tears, and Hunter is grinning from ear to ear.
