Chapter 10

Davide

I didn’t have any business to take care of, I just needed to put some distance between me and India.

We both wanted the same thing at that moment, but I want her to be sure she was ready to give me all of her.

I didn’t want her to have any regrets because once I do have her, there was no turning back, she would forever be mine.

Killing time, I stopped by my parent’s estate to make sure security was on point.

I visited with my mother for a bit. While listening to her go on about her latest trip with her friends, I took out my phone and ordered India some of the finest clothes and lingerie our shops to offer.

They should be delivered to her before I returned.

I was shredding that damn bikini when I got back too.

I had to cut my visit short when mother started bringing up me settling down, and she had the perfect girl in mind.

I loved my mother dearly, but there was no way I would hook up with any of her snobbish friends' spoiled daughters.

Plus, I had India now, so whoever she had in mind could move on to the next sap.

On the drive back to my place, Angelo called to inform me he had eyes on Okoye.

He said it looked like they were setting something up because there was a lot of activity going on at his estate.

I told him to stay on him. He then relayed he had everything I needed on Nelson, and he would be emailing it over to me.

I thanked him for that too. If everything checked out, I’d be paying Nelson a visit soon.

The last thing Angelo told me was he had been in contact with Snaps in Miami.

He and his people were still looking for the crates of guns.

Apparently, Okoye moved them somewhere in the city because they’ve been kept an eye on the shipyards, airports, and trains and haven’t seen the crates.

Snaps said they were going to do some more digging to try to locate my shit.

I told Angelo to let him know if they found the guns, there would be a bonus in it for them before ending the call.

I needed to relax. Coming up with an idea, I head straight to India’s room when I make it home.

Not sure why because this was my fucking house.

I tap on the door before opening. India was sitting on the bed, looking over the numerous boxes and bags filled with clothes and shoes. She peers at me, then smiles.

“Thank you, Davide. You really didn’t have to do this.”

I stride over to the bed and push some of the items to the side before sitting. “I didn’t, but I wanted to. I know this is a messed-up situation that you’ve been thrown in the middle of, so the least I can do is make sure you comfortable and have your own clothes to wear.”

“And again, thank you for that, but umm...” She searches through the items until she finds what she’s looking for. “I know you don’t expect me to wear this?!” It was a one-piece bathing suit that resembled a scuba diving suit.

Hey, my mother had one, so if it was good enough for her it was good enough for India too! “If you want to swim, then yes, I do!”

“How about we compromise, okay? For the rest of my stay here, if I decide to take a swim, I will wear a t-shirt over my bikini.”

I shake my head. “Nope, not gonna work because when you come out the water, the shirt will be clinging to your body, still showing off what is mine.”

She pauses. “What is yours?”

Shit. “Look, India, I’m just going, to be honest with you. I want you, and I don’t mean in a hit it and move on to the next kind of way. I mean, I really want you to be my lady, my woman, my other half.”

“You don’t even know me, Davide, and I barely know you. Yes, I will admit there is a spark between us, but it could be only sexual. Hell, I might even have Stockholm Syndrome because you did save me from being loaded up with bullets.”

“I know what I feel, angel. It is the same when my Papà told me how he felt when he met my Momma Calista. He knew before uttering a word to her that she would be his rock, his peace, the only woman who would ever hold his heart in her hands. Yes, we’ve just met each other, but at least give it a try.

I promise to always be loyal and treat you like the Princess you are. You can trust me on that.”

India plays with the garment in her hands, contemplating my words. “I’m willing to give it a try.” I lean over to kiss her, only to be met by her hand. “But you will have to do something about that door. I won’t be caged in, Davide. If we’re going to do this, then I need your trust as well.”

In my mind, that was a small request for what I was asking. “Fine, anything else you want, your Highness?” I tease.

She throws the garment at me as she giggles. “No, but let the ‘your Highness’ mess go. I’m only recognized as a Princess in my homeland.”

“As you will be here too. That is your birthright, angel, and don’t let anyone ever take that away from you!”

“You’re right. I am a Princess, but with all of this going on, how can I not think about how it will reflect on my family.”

“We’re not going to think about that tonight. I want you to put on one of those beautiful dresses and be my date to a party Piero is having.”

“Do you think that’s a good idea?” She questions frowning.

“Yes, I do. I want you to have a good time while you’re here.

So, get dressed. I’m going to get cleaned up and change.

I’ll see you in a bit.” I tell her, before passionately kissing her.

She places her palm on my cheek. Something about her touch made me feel at peace.

India was someone I wasn’t looking for, but I was extremely thrilled I found her.

Fresh out the shower, I carefully picked out a pair of black slacks and a black silk dress shirt.

Per my usual style, the first three buttons were left undone.

Staring at my reflection in the mirror, I button my cuffs then add my gold cufflinks that had the letter D engraved in the middle of them.

They were a Christmas gift from mother and papà two years ago.

I had cleaned up my mustache and beard, and my hair was in place.

After sliding on my gold Rolex, the only thing left to do was see if my angel was ready to go.

Once again, I find myself knocking on India’s door.

“Come in,” She shouts from the other side.

Twisting the knob, I open the door, and my breath escapes me as my angel stands in front of the full-length mirror, putting her earring on. She looked stunning in cream-colored off the shoulder dress that complimented her ebony skin.

As if on autopilot, I drift towards her. She reaches for the gold necklace on the dresser next to her. I pick it up before she can. She stares at me through the mirror.

“Let me,” I tell her.

India reaches behind her neck, moving her hair to the side. A small pair of angel wings grace her beautiful skin. On impulse, I bend down and place a soft kiss on it. Her breath hitches. I rise, admiring the vivid detail, as I run my fingers over the wings.

“Beautiful,” I murmur. “My angel.”

“I got it about a year ago. I’ve always wanted a tattoo, but I knew my parents would disapprove.

One day I was passing a tattoo shop and said to hell with it.

When the artist asked what did I have in mind, the first thing I thought of was the angel wings.

It was like the design was calling out to me.

My mother was a stickler on me, always wearing my hair down.

She felt a woman’s hair is her glory and should be displayed for everyone to see.

I chose to have it done in that spot so my hair could hide it from them. ” She explains.

“Fate had you choose those wings because it knew someday you would be my angel,” I say in a low voice before kissing my angel’s wings again, then drape her necklace around her neck and fasten it.

India lets her hair go then turns to face me. “Thank you,” She says with a smile before standing on her tiptoes to kiss me. I meet her halfway, pressing my lips to hers. I growl as she slips her tongue between my lips. I’ve kissed many women, but none could compare to my angel.

Not wanting things to escalate, I nip at her lips before leaving her with one last peck. “Come, the car should be waiting for outside.”

She pats my chest, then goes over to the bed and picks up her clutch. “I’m ready.” I take her hand in mine and lead her out the room to a night of fun and excitement.

When we got to Piero’s house, guests were still arriving.

He had one of larger more updated houses in the Level.

I used to try and convince him to move into the city, but he always said he was never leaving the Level.

This is where his family was, what he was used to.

He would then say, yes, he could buy a more lavish home, but why?

The house didn’t make the man. That was something I admired about Piero, even though he was crazy, he was a humble man who never forgot where he came from.

The money, clothes, or status never changed him.

He was the same Piero I met when we were kids.

I stepped out of the car first when the driver opened the door then helped India.

Placing my hand on the small of her back, I led her to the house.

Curious eyes followed our every step as we made our way to the front door.

Some of the men and women I knew called out to me.

I gave them a nod and kept on moving. I’m sure they wanted to ask who the beautiful woman on my arm was, but she was none of their fucking business.

People were either standing around conversing or dancing in the middle of Piero’s living room when we stepped in. Giuseppe, Victor, and Nicco raise their beer mugs when they saw me. I dipped my head, acknowledging them. Good, my men were here in case any shit popped off.

“Would you like something to drink?” I ask over the music.

“Yes, please.”
