65. Chapter 65

Charlotte

The sunlight burns my eyes as I pry them open. What happened last night? My head is pounding in a way it never has before, and my mouth feels like it’s been filled with cotton wool.

My clothes are strewn across my bed, and oh my god, is that the sex toy Kayla got me—unpackaged? Why is last night so fuzzy? We went out for non-alcoholic cocktails, so I certainly shouldn't be feeling like this. Maybe I’m coming down with something. That’s got to be it.

I roll over on my side to face away from the light pouring in and wince. There’s a throbbing pain on my ribs, and I have no idea why.

Sitting up, I notice there’s a bandage. I’m wracking my brain trying to figure out what’s going on here.

I better go and check what I’ve done in case it needs stitches or whatever, so I stumble to the mirror and remove the bandage. When I see the tiny tattoo sitting there, I shriek so loudly I’m sure Kayla and Alyssa hear me from their rooms.

Panicking, I grab my phone to dial Jake. I haven’t even considered the time difference. I hope he answers.

“Hey, baby. Sore head?” he answers.

“J, I’m freaking out right now.” I’m literally looking around my room hoping a clue of what went down will appear like magic.

“What’s going on? Why are you freaking out?”

“I can’t remember anything that happened last night, and then I woke up this morning and found a tattoo on my ribs! A tattoo, Jake!” My voice is getting louder as I spiral.

“Ok, well you Face-Timed me last night and you were so drunk, like I have never seen you so drunk before.”

“Drunk? How could I have been drunk? We all had non-alcoholic cocktails.”

“Did you?” he questions.

The beginning of the night starts to float to the surface, how Kayla and Alyssa wouldn’t let me buy a drink.

“Those little bitches,” I grind out.

“Tattoo’s cute though,” Jake points out. “It’s very you, and it’s something else to cross off your list.”

“Thank you, I do actually love it now that my initial panic has settled. I don’t suppose you know anything about the sex toy on my bed, do you?” Wincing as I ask.

“We may have had a little one-on-one teaching session last night.” My face flames at the thought of pleasuring myself over the phone to Jake. Drunk me is shameless.

“Don’t worry, baby, it was the single hottest thing I have ever witnessed.” He winks at me. Winks! Can’t he sense my mortification through the phone?

“I’ve got to get to training now, but drink lots of fluids and take care of that tattoo, ok?”

“Ok, I’ve got to go and kill a couple of people. I’ll speak to you later.”

Hanging up, I don my sunglasses and stomp down the stairs to find the culprits responsible for what I now know is a hangover from hell.

Alyssa and Kayla are sitting at the kitchen island, bright-eyed and drinking orange juice when they spot me.

“Good morning, sunshine,” Alyssa sing songs.

“I could kill you two,” I grunt out as I fix myself my own drink and take a sip, moaning like I’ve never tasted juice before.

With mock innocence, they both point their fingers at their chests. “Who? Us? Why, what did we do?”

“You know exactly what you did and why I’m in this state, and not to mention this.” I lift up my shirt to show them my tattoo.

“Hey, no one made you get in that tattooist's chair. And besides, you’ve always wanted one but were always too chicken shit to get one. So I say we actually deserve a thank you for getting your ass drunk,” Alyssa says as Kayla nods before covering her mouth and running off to the bathroom.

I guess the morning sickness is hitting now.

“Sorry about that,” she says as she comes back, wiping her mouth. “So, what’s the plan for our last day?”

“Can I just curl up here and die?” I suggest. I feel like shit and the last thing I want to do is go out anywhere.

“I say, let’s go get some breakfast and a coffee in Lottie, and then hit the parks. Trust me, you’ll feel better after something to eat,” Alyssa says, and for some reason, I’m stupid enough to believe her.

Newsflash. I didn’t feel better. I can’t really say why, but I think it has something to do with the never-ending loop of “It’s a Small World” is killing me slowly. If you’ve been on this ride, you will be feeling my pain right about now.

I am so close to flinging myself into the water our little boat is sailing through. I’m sandwiched between these two demons, who think it’s appropriate to sing directly into my ears around the whole ride.

Reaching my limit after our fifth go, I call time on their fun and stride off in search of something greasy to eat.

Mickey beignets secured, I lean over a trash can to eat them. If you have never eaten like this at Disney, you haven’t been doing it right.

With the sugar coursing through my veins, I feel slightly more alive, especially when Alyssa sidles up next to me with an iced coffee. “Peace offering. Please don’t be mad with us, Charlie. We just wanted you to let loose and have a good time,” she says rather sheepishly.

Kayla wraps her arm around my middle, and I lean into my girls. “You’re forgiven. Hey, let’s take a pic. I promised Wren some photos as she couldn’t make it.”

We hit up all the character greetings, taking photos with Goofy, Mickey, Minnie, and Daisy. We avoided the princesses—I get a little freaked out when I can see their faces—and we finish off with a selfie in front of the big wheel. What started out as a shitty day has turned into one of the best.

“What does everyone want for dinner?” I ask as we walk along Main Street to find a prime spot for the fireworks.

“I’m happy to grab take out back at the villa, I am dead on my feet,” Kayla says next to me, yawning.

“Suits me,” Alyssa says, taking selfies for her Instagram page. The life of an influencer.

We’re perched up against a railing as the fireworks start and, as usual, they’re jaw-dropping, full of color. I am so beyond grateful to my friends for bringing me here.

Turning around, I take a photo of myself with the fireworks in the background and send it to Jake.
