Chapter Forty #2
“No the fuck—”
“Go, Reb—”
“You ain’t leavin’ club grounds lookin’ like you fuckin’ twenty!” he repeated “Go fuckin’ home. Date fuckin’ canceled.”
“Momma approved this outfit, Daddy,” Rebel said, regaining some of her composure thanks to Nyx’s bitchiness.
“I’ll be out in a minute, love,” Meggie said.
Rebel rushed away.
“You told me you was gonna get pizza, Megan.”
“I changed my mind, Christopher.”
She hadn’t thought out a Valentine’s Day without Christopher very well. She could see all the flaws in her plan.
“Danicka is meeting me at Gypsy’s house.” If Christopher called, they’d back up her story. “Danicka will have her detail with her.”
That was the truth.
“They savin’ that bitch first,” Christopher snapped.
“There isn’t much I can do, Christopher. You decided we’d spend our Valentine’s Day apart.” Her tone stopped just short of accusation.
She knew it didn’t have to do with another woman, which was why Danicka was free tonight. She’d discovered Boy gave one of his favorite club girls the exact same bracelet he’d given to her after claiming it was one-of-a-kind.
But Christopher was invested in showing CJ the ropes. Meggie knew that included the parties where the old ladies and kids were not allowed to attend. While she didn’t want anyone else to show her son the ways of the club, she didn’t expect it to come between her and Christopher.
Rebel stuck her head in again. “Hurry, Momma! Kaia is already at the movie theater.”
CJ stood up. “Reb, maybe, this isn’t a good idea.” He looked at Meggie and gave her a tentative smile. “We can go home and…and…order pizza. Neither one of you have a detail.”
“Meggie?” Pike called, disappointment in his voice.
“I can…me and the boys been talking.” He indicated Huck, Sparrow, and Zephyr who sat at his table with Potter, Narci and Torrin.
A Probate stood behind the bar. “We can work our regular detail tonight. Nyx going to have her initiation soon. Not like I won’t be able to get pussy from her—”
“But tonight’s special,” Nyx said. “Valentine’s Day. My unofficial celebration.”
Exactly. And she was trying to embarrass Rebel with her silly sneers.
“Pike, Huck, Sparrow, Potter, Zephyr, Bishop, Torrin, and Narci, if you don’t mind—” Meggie looked at Christopher— “And, if it’s okay with you, of course, when I drop Reb off, four of you can stay with Rebel and the other four can come with me.” She’d tip them generously for their secrecy.
Tomorrow, she’d confess to Christopher. Going forward, once she saw how Rebel’s date went—hopefully she and Christopher could collaborate.
Christopher nodded curtly. Nyx looked both angry and on the verge of tears. Meggie was stripping away some of the most notorious partiers in the club.
“If any of you fuck up my date, I’ll fuck you up,” Rebel warned.
Meggie hid a smile. Her bold and brazen Rebel had returned.
The bikers she chose got to their feet.
“We’re going to get our rides,” Torrin announced.
“Give me two minutes, Reb,” Meggie said once the guys filed out of the clubhouse.
“Okay. Timer starts now. One, two, three…” Rebel’s voice trailed off as she back out of the door.
“You bought that fuckin’ dress a couple weeks ago to celebrate Valentine’s Day with my fuckin’ ass,” Christopher said the moment the door closed.
“I intended to—”
“When I fuckin’ told you I couldn’t celebrate with you, I ain’t expected you to wear that expensive motherfucker.”
“You didn’t tell me not to wear it,” she argued.
“You know how fuckin’ much that dress cost?”
“I picked it out. I was standing right next to you when you paid.”
He gave her a sour look. “I suppose you got the fuckin’ coat too.”
“You suppose correctly.”
“If you doin’ this to piss me the fuck off, you succeeded.”
Her annoyance turned to anger. She rushed up to him and shoved him. He didn’t budge. “ Jerk ! Don’t turn this around on me. I’m not the one who canceled Valentine’s Day at the last minute. I’m not the one who didn’t give me a present or flowers.”
“I spent forty-six fuckin’ thousand dollars on a motherfuckin’ dress and a coat and you complainin’ about fuckin’ flowers? Not to mention three Gs for your shoes.”
“You’ve spent ten times that amount on me during a shopping spree. What you’ve never done is missed Valentine’s Day or not even acknowledged it with flowers.”
“You know what the fuck your fuckin’ problem is? You a spoiled lil’ motherfucker.”
“ Asshole ,” she hissed, taking off her sandal and throwing it at his head. He dodged so she took the other one off and threw it at him. He had quick reflexes. That one missed him, too.“I haven’t even seen you today.”
He picked up her shoes and held them by the straps. “Where the fuck you goin’?” he demanded again.
She couldn’t blurt her destination in front of everyone. Someone might tell Rebel. While Meggie didn’t want to ruin her daughter’s date, she didn’t want to expose herself either.
“Let me talk to you in your office,” she said sullenly, still angry he hadn’t bought her anything for Valentine’s Day and ignored her gifts. “We have to make it quick though, since I don’t want to make Rebel late.”
“You goin’ no matter what the fuck I say, so go . I ain’t got time to talk.” He held her sandals out to her.
She snatched them from him, half-expecting him to grab her and kiss her. Or say he was joking with her. Or something . Instead, he allowed her to walk away without further comment.
