Epilogue - Jade
[Three months later]
I take a deep breath as I step out onto the cozy porch of Beau's A-frame cabin. This place, nestled among the towering pines with an incredible view of the peaks, is now my home. It's hard to believe how much my life has changed in just three short months.
After that fateful storm, I took a leap of faith and decided to stay in Heartwood. Beau and I grew closer each day, exploring the mountain trails together and sharing long conversations by the fireplace. His unwavering support and gentle encouragement helped me see this place through new eyes.
I wrap my hands around a steaming mug of coffee, savoring the warmth as I gaze out at the stunning landscape. I can't help but smile, thinking back to how I first came to Heartwood three months ago. A city girl convinced I just needed to immerse myself in rugged nature to make my romantic thriller authentic. Little did I know, the mountains had a much bigger plan for me.
If someone had told me then that I'd end up falling for - and moving in with - the handsome but headstrong mountain rescuer, I would have laughed in their face. With his chiseled jaw and piercing blue eyes, Beau Morgan was the last person I thought I'd find myself drawn to.
But from the moment we collided in the resort lobby, there was an undeniable spark between us. Even as we butted heads over my reckless determination to brave the elements for my novel, I couldn't ignore the way my heart raced when he was near.
That fateful storm changed everything. Beau's unwavering bravery in the face of nature's fury, the way he selflessly risked his safety to rescue me... it awoke something deep within me. Something I didn't even know was missing.
But it was more than just physical attraction. In the days and weeks that followed, Beau showed me a side of himself I never expected. Beneath that rugged exterior beat the heart of a man who cared deeply for his community, his family, and... me.
Beau opens the front door and joins me on the porch, wrapping his arms around me. I lean back into his solid warmth, my fingers lightly tracing the toned forearm that snakes around my waist. Despite our reckless start, his unwavering support made all the difference in finishing my novel. I wouldn't have it any other way.
"You seem deep in thought this morning," Beau's low rumble makes me shiver as he nuzzles against the nape of my neck. "Getting cold feet about your book launch?"
I turn in his embrace, looping my arms around his neck. "Not a chance. I'm just feeling incredibly lucky, is all.” I kiss him deeply, savoring his woodsy scent that I can’t seem to get enough of. "Lucky that thunderstorm brought you into my life when I needed rescuing more than I realized."
Beau cups my face, his warm eyes radiating with devotion. "I'm the lucky one, Jade. Your passion, your spirit... it's why I love you. And why I'll be by your side for every adventure."
My heart swells at his words. I never imagined I'd find love like this, especially not while chasing my dreams in the mountains. But Beau’s steadfast belief in me, his willingness to embrace my wild spirit while still being my rock—it's everything.
I glance at the stack of advance copies of my novel on the coffee table, a thrill running through me. In just a few short days, I'll be launching my book in Salt Lake City before heading to New York on a book tour. But this time, I won't be going alone.
Beau pulls me closer, his lips grazing my temple. "I can't wait to be there cheering you on at your launch party. And then, after your tour..." He grins mischievously. "I'm whisking you away for a little surprise adventure."
I raise an eyebrow, intrigued. "Oh? Do I get any hints?"
He shakes his head, eyes twinkling. "Nope. You'll just have to trust me."
And I do. Completely. Because if there's one thing I've learned on this incredible journey, it's that the best adventures are the ones you never see coming. The ones that sweep you off your feet and change your life in ways you never imagined.
As I melt into Beau's kiss, I know that no matter where our next chapter takes us, we'll be facing it together. The city girl and the mountain man, ready to take on the world hand in hand.
