Chapter Six

Sunny

Everything looks fairly settled by the time I make it back to the clearing with three bullet casings in my back pocket.

And by settled I mean the bodies of the men I shot have disappeared into the vans they arrived in and three have been hog tied and are in the process of being thrown into the MC truck.

“Well, I’ll be on my way. See you at church, Revenant,” I smile, headed for my moped. She’s been my pride and joy since my dad gifted her to me. She gets me to where I need to be, no fuss, no muss.

I’m almost at my baby when I bounce off a hard chest. “No. I can’t have you riding around town on that thing. What if the Sinister Wolves recognize it?”

I look over my shoulder, at the last Wolf to be thrown in the back of the MC truck. “I think I’ll be OK big guy.” I pat Revenant’s chest because, well, it’s right there. Just begging me.

“No,” he says, thick arms crossing over his chest, denying my palm any more access to those delicious pecs.

“Yes. I have things to do. Namely getting home, putting on that sundress you like so much, and then waiting on my favorite pew for you. It’s our thing.”

His eyes narrow, and I don’t miss the way his lip ticks up in the corner before he lets out a long sigh.

“Look, Sunny. I’m worried about you, OK?

We don’t know what we’re dealing with and hell, you’ve just shot three men.

At some point this shit is going to hit you.

It’ll hit hard. Until it does we don’t know if you’ll panic or shut down or freeze up.

If that happens and these guys come back?

If they find you? It won’t be good, sweetheart.

” His voice softens at the end, and I have to admit, he does look worried for me.

Little does he know that I’m pretty certain I’ll be fine.

I eye him up, before scanning the rest of the SOMC. All of whom are not minding their own business one bit. “Well, what do you suggest?’

He runs his hand through his luscious dark hair, and that warm feeling I always get when Revenant is around starts to fill me.

One day it’ll be my fingers running through his hair.

He lets out a long sigh, before looking at his Prez, then back to me.

“Prez thinks you should come back to the clubhouse. It’ll be safer. ”

I raise my brow, hiding the fact that I really want to jump up and down. Crap, maybe even jump into Revenant’s arms. This is a gift from the romance book gods, forced proximity? Yes please!

“You want me,” I point to myself, “to come and stay in your,” I point at Revenant, “clubhouse?”

He nods curtly. “For safety.”

“For safety.” I tap a finger on my chin, making it look like I’m thinking. “OK. Lemme just swing by home, tell my parents and pick up an overnight bag. I’ll meet you there.”

“Nope. the prospects will collect your stuff. You call your parents then we’ll get moving. Don’t want to be out here any longer than we have to.” Oh, Bossy Revenant is in charge huh?

I stare at him for a beat, before shrugging and pulling my phone out of my back pocket. I swipe through the screen, pulling up my mom’s number because Dad will lose his shit. I wait for her to answer and watch Revenant as he heads to Gallows. Probably to bitch.

“Momma? Yeah, I’m going to be staying at the clubhouse for a few days. Something has happened.”

“Hmmm? And what is that, baby girl? Lemme guess, you’ve managed to woo that man of yours?” Momma’s warm honey voice drips down the line.

“I might be on the verge of that. Let's say I had to kinda shoot three men but I saved Revenant and that’s all that matters.”

“You what? Sunny! Did anyone see? Were they bad men? Do you need more ammunition?”

“Only the MC men saw, yes they were bad men, and I probably do need a top up but I can get that another day.”

“OK, that's good. I’m glad everyone is OK. I’ll, ah, break the news to your father so expect a lecture at some stage. How long will you be at the clubhouse?” And this is why I called Momma. She’s the best.

“I want to say forever, but let's just say a few days until they get the situation under control.”

“Sounds good. Love you, baby. And tell Revenant that we’d love to have him for dinner when this is all over with.”

I grin at my momma’s words, catching Revenant’s gaze from where he stands a little away, giving me privacy. He looks both pissed at me and afraid of me at the same time. Right where I want him.

Revenant

I watch her for any signs that she may be cracking.

That the warm, kind, happy facade is going to break at any moment, and I see…

nothing. She's as she always is. She ends her call with a flourish, then moves to her moped, tugging it around, pointing it toward the road and sitting her lush ass on it. As much as I know she can never be mine, that didn’t stop my cock from standing to attention when I saw her come out of the trees in her jeans and cowboy boots.

I always knew she was a curvy girl, but I never once imagined how lush her thick thighs and heart shaped ass would look in those jeans.

Her thighs rubbing, her hips swaying back and forth as she walked away from me will be burned in my spank bank for life.

She waits patiently on her moped, her matching baby blue helmet on her head, looking like she’s ready to ride in formation with us. She’s fucking adorable but for her safety we’re gonna have to put her moped in the back of the truck as well.

“Brake!” My brother spins toward me, brows raised. “Tell Sunny that she can’t drive herself. It’s not safe.”

He stares at me for a moment. “And just how is she getting to town, brother?” I stare at him and ignore the slow grin that grows on his face as my panic starts to rise.

No. She’s a good girl. Too good. I’ve never had a woman on the back of my bike, and I’m not going to start now.

“All good, brother; she can ride with me.” Cedar slaps me on the back. “Yo! Sunny!”

“Fuck off!” I shove him out of the way and stomp toward Sunny.

She tips her head up, dark eyes on mine, soft smile on her face.

The way she looks every time I storm into her father’s church and yet, this is different.

This is after she’s taken three lives. Three lives for me , to save my life and she still looks at me the way she always has.

It’s fucking unnerving. She should hate me for the position I put her in, and yet, she doesn't. Maybe she’s in shock. Yeah, that's probably what it is.

“Sunny, I can’t let you ride.”

She looks at me, big brown eyes peering into my soul. “Ah, how am I getting to the clubhouse?”

I close my eyes and let out a breath. Fuck’s sake, Revenant, you can do this. She’s just a woman in need of a ride for her own safety. “You can ride with me,” I mumble.

“Sorry, I didn’t quite hear that.” The little minx has the balls to smirk up at me from her seat on her moped.

“I said, you can ride with me.”

She beams at me. “Well, what are we waiting for? Boys, load up Bluebell!”

She hops off and speed walks to my sled, and I watch her. Frozen in place. Only snapping out of it when Brake steps up beside me, slapping me hard on the back.

“Well, brother. I think you may be well and truly fucked.”
