Chapter Nineteen
Sunny
So, it would seem that it’s impossible to hit a bitch in these new fandangled cars.
“Fuck you, Sunny!” Bubbles screeches as I rev the engine on this fancypants car I found the keys in.
Chasing these two down has been a lot more strenuous than I thought it would be.
First, they took one look at me and then high tailed it out of the garage.
To be honest, after that little conversation with Amos Crowe I was pissed.
Double pissed. Whatever the word is for super-sized pissed, that's me. Then they led me on a wild goose chase around Winlaw until I stumbled onto a Tesla with the keycard in it. On the upside they can’t hear me coming.
On the downside, it has some hard wired safety feature that keeps dodging my human targets.
“Sunny! Please! I’m sorry! They threatened my mom!” Split all but sobs as I get closer to collecting his ass on the hood.
“Yeah? And you threatened my mom’s kid!” I yell out the window.
“Wh-what?”
“Me, you simpleton!”
My foot presses harder on the gas, the car jumping a little as it kicks up a gear. Excitement fizzes in my gut as I get closer. I ignore the lights flashing on the dash telling me I have a weasel shaped man on my radar, choosing to speed up a little more.
“That’s it,” I mutter to myself, “Just a liiiiittle mor- Mother fucker!” The car swerves at the last minute and instead of hitting Split dead on, I clip him, his scrawny body flying off to the side.
I let out a long growl, slowing the car to a silent stop before hitting the stupid steering wheel with my palm. “Whose side are you on!?” I bark at the dash, then flip it the bird when it tells me I’m distracted and should take a rest.
Groaning to my right has me remembering that I hit one of my targets, and I still have one to go.
“Sunny? Is that you?”
My head snaps to the left, Mrs. Feffercorn peering into the car at me. “Oh, hi Mrs. Feffercorn! How are you today?”
“Oh, you know, can’t complain,” she says, waving a hand at me. Split groans again and both our gazes move in that direction. “Is that the Smith boy?”
“Oh yeah, I heard he fell off his bike. I was just picking him up to take him home.” I paste a huge smile on my face so she’ll buy it. Or be somewhat unnerved by it.
She narrows her eyes at me. “Sunny Richards. I thought you knew better.” She tuts me.
“Cars like this can’t make it up the holler where his momma lives.
The roads are too rough.” I fake surprise, then disappointment in my stolen car.
“Take him to your daddy, he’ll be able to get him home in his pickup. ”
I brighten, smile even wider. “That’s a fantastic idea! I should have thought of that. No matter.” I say, bustling out of the car.
I scratch around the back passenger door, knowing there should be a handle here or something. How the hell do you open these doors? I tap the door, then knock on the window before poking what looks to be a handle, giving a little “Huzzah!” once it pops out.
I act as if I knew what I was doing the whole time, under Mrs. Feffercorn’s keen eye all while cursing this stupid car. Note to self: Steal something a little older next time.
“Come on, little buddy,” I coo at Split, helping him up as best I can. My best meaning I drag his limp-ish body toward the car.
“Oh dear, let me help you.” I grit my teeth and let Mrs. Feffercorn help me. It’ll be more trouble if I don't.
We get him in the backseat and I slam the door on his hand, not giving a shit.
“Well, thank you so much for your help, I better get him home to his momma.” I get in and slam the door. I have no idea if the car is on or not, but it moves forward when I hit the gas, good enough for me.
“Are you really taking me to my momma?” Split’s strained voice calls from the back.
“Hell no! We’re going to find that bitch Bubbles, then I got plans. Big plans.” My gaze lands on sky high bleached blonde hair, denim cutoffs and high heels. “Bingo.”
Revenant
I follow Pastor Richards as he winds through the lazy Winlaw streets.
There’s never a lot of traffic. Mine and Brake’s rides are the only noise on the main street.
Not that I care, I have tunnel vision. Sunny is all I see and nothing, not even the big man himself can hold me back from getting to her.
Richards turns a hard left to one of the abandoned buildings in this part of Winlaw.
Vegetation creeps up the broken windows.
The roof sags. An abandoned Tesla is parked haphazardly in front.
He gets out of his pickup, not even bothering to slam his door.
The only thing stopping him from getting into the rundown garage is my bike blocking his path.
“Stand down! We don’t know what we’re walking into!” I growl. I’ve buried enough men in my time. I’m not losing Sunny’s fucking father as well.
He gives me a curt nod, then turns away from me, hands on his head, his shoulders rising and falling as he takes deep breaths. I get it. Doesn’t matter what rank he once held. Here he’s just a father looking for his little girl.
Brake and I dismount, Brake craning his neck to look for any threats. Then I hear it. The deafening roar of bikes coming our way. Brothers.
Brake and the pastor hear it as well.
“They were quick,” Richards says.
“Probably helped that you ran over three Wolves on your way out the gate,” Brake quips.
We stand still, watching as one by one the Saint’s Outlaws pull in.
“You good?” I ask Prez.
He doesn’t answer, just eyes the building behind us. “We go in easy, clear the -”
“Whatcha doin?” All heads snap to the left and it feels like I’ve been punched in the gut.
“Sunny?” I blink once. Then twice.
“Babe!” She drops the ice cream in her hand and runs straight at me.
I catch her in my arms before I even register her here.
Safe. She’s safe. “You came!” She peppers kisses on my face before pulling back, searching my gaze.
She stills a moment before she softens, pressing a gentle kiss to the corner of my mouth. “What happened?”
“You were fucking kidnapped,” I growl.
“No, not that. You look different.”
My brows pinch, wondering what she means.
“You look lighter.”
Realization hits me. “I listened to you.”
She beams at me. “Well, you should do that more often.” She kisses me fiercely, tongues and teeth, only stopping when someone clears their throat. “Oh, hey Dad.” She beams and waves a blood covered hand at her father.
“Um, so that happened,” Coyote murmurs.
“What happened? We came here to save her. Why the fuck is she out here, covered in blood? Scrap that, why the hell is she eating an ice cream?” Ledger grumbles, staring between Sunny and the ice cream splatter on the pavement.
“Was. I was eating an ice cream,” Sunny says, lifting my arm and then throwing it over her shoulder as she snuggles into my side. It’s such a simple, Sunny thing to do. The knot that has been twisting in my chest since I watched her get thrown in that trunk just…disappears.
“Ok, why were you eating an ice cream when you’re meant to be fucking kidnapped or something?” Ledger asks, clearly having trouble following what's going on. Shit. I am too.
“Oh, I was taking a break.”
“From what?” Ledger asks, truly baffled.
“From being kidnapped?” Hollow squints.
“No,” Sunny replies. “I was taking a break from the conversation.” She turns to Gallows.
“Did you know Bubbles and Split and that meth head MC gang and Amos Crowe are working together? Like, how the hell did that come about? Anyway, I was trying to get to the bottom of things but then they bored me and I was a little worried about you guys because Amos told Bubbles to call the Wolves and send them your way but then I remembered that you’re the Saint’s Outlaws and have like, killed tons of people before.
Probably. Allegedly. And I figured I was more help to you here than wherever you were -”
“Sunny, stop!” her father growls, pinching the bridge of his nose. “Cliff notes version. Please.”
Sunny looks between her father and the MC, blows out a breath, then waves at us to follow her, speed talking as she makes her way through the shitty garage.
“Bubbles wants Revenant’s dick and hates me. For obvious reasons. She’s been fucking the Sinister Wolves in her spare time while pretending she was in love with Split.”
“When the hell does Bubbles have free time?” Brake asks.
Sunny shrugs, leading us through a doorway. “Anyhoo, Amos Crowe, Sinister Wolves, Bubbles and Split are all in bed together. Or were.”
She waves at the two people tied to chairs in the room she’s led us to.
“Holy. Fucking. Shit,” Jubilee whispers, eyes wide as Pastor Richards sighs, a resigned look on his face.
“Sunny -”
“I know what you’re going to say, that I used a clove hitch and not a constrictor knot, but I couldn’t quite remember all the steps and I was on a bit of a time crunch.”
Pastor Richards shakes his head a little. “We’ll go over it again once all this has blown over.”
“Blown over? Blown over?” Ledger squeaks.
“What happened to them?” Brake asks with a frown, ignoring Ledger.
We all turn to stare at Sunny, standing in front of Bubbles and Split, looking proud of herself.
“They were kind of run over. And then I had to get a little creative when it came to making them talk.”
“So…you tortured them?” Prez asks with a raised brow.
“Seemed like a good idea,” Sunny says, waving a hand dismissively.
“Brake,” Prez barks. “Check them.”
“Oh, they’re not dead.” Sunny says as Brake lays his finger on Bubbles’ pulse. “I made sure to keep them alive so we can grill them some more.”
“No we,” I tell Sunny, drawing her into my arms, wanting to feel her there, convince myself she’s safe. “My brothers will do their job. You can do yours.”
She tilts her head back, a smile playing on her lips. “My job? Is that riding that big d-”
“Sunny!”
“Sorry, Prez.”
“Boys, load these two up. You know where to put them.” He turns to Pastor Richards. “Pastor-”
“Message me once the problem has been taken care of.” Pastor Richards steps close, pressing a kiss to Sunny’s head before walking toward the door. “I’ll be seeing you, Revenant.”
“As always, Warrick.”
