Chapter 13

CHAPTER

THIRTEEN

ELODIE

“Are you sure this is all we were supposed to do?” Alex asks from beside me.

We’ve cleaned the entire venue. It wasn’t messy or dirty at all. It was relatively clean. The bathrooms were probably the worst of it, aside from the main room floor that just needed a good sweep and mop.

“And take pictures,” I mutter as I snap pictures of anything and everything I can think to take pictures of.

“That wasn’t two thousand dollars’ worth of work,” he states the obvious.

“Four thousand,” I correct.

There is a moment of silence. A long one. I can feel Alex’s eyes on me. I don’t know what he’s waiting for, what he thinks I’m going to say or not say, but it doesn’t matter, because I got nothing. I came here to clean a venue and take some pictures, and that’s what I’m doing.

“I’m pretty sure something shady is going on here,” he says.

I turn my head to look at him. “No shit,” I state. “But we want a leg up in this world. We want to build our business, hire employees, buy houses, and be able to buy toilet paper and groceries in the same month.” I ask.

He nods once, his eyes wide as he clearly is surprised by my little outburst. He shouldn’t be. He’s known me long enough that he has got to realize I’m bound to lose my shit every so often, and this is just an instance where shit needs to be lost.

“Okay then, we take the pictures, we collect our money, and we shut the fuck up.”

Pressing my lips together in a thin line, I nod once before I make my way toward the back door, where we were told to lock the bottom lock before slipping out.

The owner left a few moments after we arrived, and we’ve been here for four hours. I’m exhausted, and so is Alex, but now we have to drive back to the Iron Flame clubhouse.

“Let me drive. You look exhausted.”

“I am,” I grunt.

I’m not sure when I do, but I fall asleep in the car. It’s warm, the music is playing low, and the car is moving and grooving down the road, then the highway, and I’m still so damn tired and sore. The week is finished, and all I want to do is sleep, but Wrath wants these pictures.

I don’t know how long we’re in the car, but I’m awakened when I feel my entire body being shifted, and then weightless. My eyes pop open, and I turn my head, ready to scream, when I’m met with those gorgeous light-brown eyes I can’t seem to get enough of.

“Quiet, babe.”

My entire body trembles in this man’s arms, and the fact that he’s carrying me is a whole different story, but my god, I’m not a shrinking violet.

I’m not tall, but I have an abundance of tits and ass, and unfortunately, that doesn’t mean the rest of me is skin and bones, so there’s plenty of me to carry, and he’s walking through the parking lot as if I’m weightless.

Then he steps into the building, and I expect him to set me down, but he doesn’t. Instead, he continues moving through the room, and I would watch where he’s going, but I don’t, and that’s because my eyes are trying to take in and understand everything I’m seeing.

Naked people. Men and women. Sex. Lots of drinking. Dancing. You name it, they’re doing it.

Holy freaking shit.

I mean, I imagined these were the things going on here at night, but now I’m actually seeing it, and I can’t believe my own eyes. It’s everything I could have ever imagined, and then some… lots of some.

I’m unable to tear my eyes off anything. It’s just wild. Completely wild. When we turn a corner and there is now only a wall for me to look at, the spell is broken, and I’m able to take in and soak in what is going on.

Wrath is carrying me down a familiar hallway, which is the freaking living quarters. I open my mouth to ask him to put me down, wriggling slightly before I speak, but his arms flex and he shakes his head once.

“You’re beat to fuck, babe. So is Alex. Dare is going to set him up in a guest room. You’re both crashing here tonight.”

“If Alex is in a guest room, where am I going?” My voice is coming out not just soft, but also trembling.

Then I watch as a smile stretches over his absolutely gorgeous face, but he doesn’t answer me. What he does is turn slightly and then step into another room and slowly bend, placing me on a bed.

“My room.”

Oh.

My.

God
