Chapter 31

The minute Nyelle’s face came into view, Vega surveyed her from head to toe.

Although the heather gray spandex shorts and racerback tee she wore had his dick hardening by the second, he knew damn well she wasn’t ready to leave.

They had less than an hour before they needed to be on their way to the airport.

“You need to get dressed, Pretty Ny. You’re not wearing that unless you plan on having me air out the entire airport.

” Vega’s brows hiked slightly while he made his way inside, noticing there also wasn’t any luggage waiting for him to carry out.

Her ass better be packed or we’re gonna miss our flight.

“I’m not going, so you don’t have to air anything out.”

“The fuck you mean you’re not going?”

“Hey, Vega.” Nick’s little voice and body barreling toward him took his attention away from Nyelle long enough for Vega to greet his overly hyper little friend. When Nick was within proximity, Vega kneeled down and lifted him into his arms.

“What’s good, little man? Why is your mommy not dressed and ready to go?”

Nick frowned, not sure of what Vega was asking, but Nyelle cut in quickly.

She hadn’t mentioned the trip to Miami to her son.

There was no need since it wasn’t happening.

“Because I’m not going. I just told you that.

” She reached for her son, but Vega turned away.

The protective manner in which he held Nick and his height shut down Nyelle’s efforts.

“Why not? Everything okay?” Vega’s first instinct was to check Nick out. He already knew Nyelle was granted the time off work so the only other thing that would keep her home was her son.

“Yes, but my mom has friends coming in for a few days. She can’t keep Nick and—"

“Aight bet, then he can roll with us.” Vega moved past the thought like it was nothing. “You wanna go to the beach?”

“What’s the beach?” Nick frowned at Vega before looking down at his mother.

“Nick, you know what the beach is. The sand and water.”

His little mind went on a journey before he smiled and nodded. “I wanna go. Can we play in the sand? I can’t swim.”

“Me either but don’t tell your mother or she might try and take away my G status.”

“Vega.” Nyelle’s tone was sharp, shutting down his and Nick’s little moment.

She was irritated by the fact that Vega even brought it up.

This time when she reached for Nick, Vega allowed her to take him.

After she delivered a kiss on her son’s cheek and placed him on his feet again, Nick was given instructions to head to his room so she and Vega could talk.

“Why would you do that?” she fussed as soon as Nick was out of range.

“Do what?”

“Ask him about the beach. Once something is in his head, he will not let it go.”

“Aight so get him packed so we don’t miss this flight. He need a ticket? I don’t know how that shit works with kids.”

“Vega, we’re not going.”

“Why the hell not?” His patience was fleeting considering their timeline to make it to the airport and he damn sure wasn’t in the mood to be debating a slight adjustment with Nyelle.

“Because, it was a couples’ thing. Nobody was expecting Nick to go. I’m sure you weren’t. How is that even going to work?”

“East and Joi aren’t gonna give a fuck that he’s going.

I damn sure don’t. We’re a couple but we’re a couple with a kid.

They both understand that. It’s not a big deal.

We can figure shit out. They have kid shit in Miami.

We kick it with Nick during the day then I’ll have you all to myself at night. Why are you making it a thing?”

Nyelle bit down on her lip, processing the thought. She loved her son and knew Joi loved him just as much but a couples’ trip with a hyperactive, needy four-year-old wasn’t exactly what either of them were expecting.

“Ny, stop overthinking shit. How many times do I have to tell you that I get it? It’s a package deal. I’m not trippin off that. Go pack his shit real quick so we don’t miss this flight. I’m about to call and get him a ticket.”

“I can pay for—"

The look Vega delivered stopped her words instantly and she threw her hands up, grinning. “I’m going to pack for us.”

“Us,” Vega groaned, raking his hand down his face. There was no way they would make their flight. “Man, hurry your ass up. We better not miss this flight.”

Nyelle smirked and turned to walk away with Vega talking to her back. “Just throw some swimming shit in a bag. You can wear that during the day. Don’t worry about nighttime because I want you naked.”

Before Nyelle bent the corner to enter her room she looked back at Vega who had his phone to his ear, already in the process of securing Nick’s ticket.

She rolled her eyes and he winked at her.

Nyelle might have assumed he was joking but Vega was dead serious.

Their days in Miami would belong to keeping Nick occupied but her nights would be exclusive to keeping him occupied.

By the time they reached Cabo’s place in Coral Gables, the mood of the city had settled in.

The couples were relaxed and ready to figure out plans for dinner.

The travel had exhausted Nick who was sleeping peacefully tucked under Nyelle by the time the SUV Cabo sent to retrieve them pulled up on his property.

“Is this a resort or a house?” Nyelle took in the massive home that glowed like a candle given the white and glass exterior that provided them with an exquisite view.

“It’s a whole ass property,” Joi answered for her as she stepped out behind East while Nyelle and Vega exited right after. Vega immediately scooped Nick into his arms, who was still out cold.

“This is the kind of income bracket I’m trying to be in.” Nyelle grinned at her girl until Vega stole her attention with a kiss on the cheek.

“You’re on my team now, Pretty Ny. This is the kind of income bracket you’re already in.

” The sly grin which Vega provided had Nyelle side eyeing him.

She knew he was living good but a multi-million-dollar glass house on the beach in Miami was a lot more than she expected. Either way, she wasn’t surprised.

“You guys made it safely.” Ava was the first to greet everyone once they were inside the massive home.

As expected, it was beautiful, presenting the appearance of an ivory and glass wonderland.

The sleek furniture fit perfectly, accented by ivory and gray marble floors and modern crystal light fixtures.

The home was beautiful but had Nyelle regretting her decision to bring a four-year-old into the environment.

Joi hugged her aunt before doing introductions. Ava and Nyelle had met a few times so they spoke before Ava greeted East then moved on to Vega who still had Nick in his arms.

“And who is this gorgeous little man?”

“Nick. My son. I hope you don’t mind that I brought him.”

Ava frowned slightly before rolling her eyes at the idea.

“Absolutely not. I’m actually a little more excited to see him than the rest of you.

My life is not really set up to accommodate a child of my own, so I appreciate the opportunity to love on others’.

I’m going to have to carve out some time for this little cutie. ”

Nyelle grinned while Cabo listened as he entered the room.

He and Ava had discussed kids plenty of times before.

They both wanted them but understood his life complicated their ability to give a child what would be considered a normal life.

Cabo also didn’t want the burden of knowing that a child of his could potentially be used as a weapon against him due to his lifestyle.

It pained him knowing Ava wanted children of her own but they both agreed it wasn’t ideal.

It was another reason he spared no expense with providing anything else her heart desired.

“I hope you didn’t have plans on seeing your son while you were here.

I would be more than willing to bet she’s going to steal him from you.

” Cabo moved to his lady’s side, kissing her cheek.

He and Ava shared a look before she chuckled lightly, agreeing, while he didn’t miss the regret that flashed in her eyes.

“He would be right, but I’m sure you won’t mind.” Ava provided Nyelle with a soft smile.

“You’re welcome to spend whatever time you want with him but please don’t feel obligated. He’s a handful.”

“So am I.” Ava smirked at Nyelle, placing her hand on Nick’s back briefly. “Come, I’ll show you to your rooms so you can get him settled. I had the cook prepare a late dinner for you guys. I’m sure the men need a minute to talk.”

Cabo chuckled and nodded, motioning for East and Vega to follow him while Nyelle took Nick from Vega and she and Joi followed Ava.

“We’ll get the bags when we come up,” East tossed out to make sure the ladies didn’t attempt to handle it. The three men moved through the house onto the massive floating deck positioned over the ocean below them.

“Welcome to my home, gentlemen. Vega, correct?” Cabo extended a hand to Vega which he accepted. Right after, Cabo turned to East. “It’s good to see you again.”

East nodded before filling one of the patio chairs. The flight was short, but even in first class his long legs felt cramped, which had his body and back stiff from the flight.

“We appreciate you letting us stay here,” East said, looking around.

He didn’t do a lot of traveling but he welcomed the opportunity when it hit.

The way his life was set up, there wasn’t much need to travel but he could get used to the backdrop of the ocean and the peace that came along with it.

Being born and raised in the city, the idea of experiencing life outside of what he had grown accustomed to didn’t seem like a bad idea.

“This place is nice as hell. How long you been here?” Cabo smiled at Vega’s question, admiring his surroundings.

The seven-figure residence was exquisite and fit his lifestyle perfectly.

The place was designed by Ava, but he loved her vision and was completely satisfied with the finished product.

“A few years. This is one of my favorite properties. We try our best to spend as much time here as we can.”

“Shit, I don’t blame you. I might be your neighbor soon.” Vega smirked, looking out over the ocean before he gave Cabo his attention.

“You won’t be disappointed. I keep trying to convince East he needs to get away more. Maybe now he’ll consider it. Women love to travel. It falls right behind shopping on their list.”

East smirked, knowing Cabo was referring to Joi.

“I’m thinking about it but I damn sure don’t need all this. It’s nice though. Not really my style. I like nice shit, but this is a bit much.”

“You can afford it,” Cabo added, causing East to chuckle at the thought. He could but he wasn’t big on being grand. It brought attention he didn’t want.

“Fuck all that. The feds can kiss my ass. If I want it, I’m getting it. I work hard for the money, and as long as I create the paper trail, then there isn’t a damn thing they can say.”

“Indeed. Speaking of that, are you planning on taking over when your brother steps down? To my understanding it won’t be long.”

Vega’s eyes met East’s before he gave his attention to Cabo. “How the fuck you know that?”

“It’s my business to know. I’m well versed in the dealings of your family business. I’m acquainted with your father. Even after he stepped down, we kept in touch. It’s necessary for what I do. I have to know all of the key players. Your family are definitely key players.”

Vega stared at Cabo for a moment, unsure of how he felt about what was being discussed.

He knew about Cabo but wasn’t aware his father had an association with him.

Deciding to let it go under the assumption that East wouldn’t bring him into a compromising situation, Vega answered truthfully.

“Makes sense, but nah, I’m not. It’s time for me to do my own thing. ”

Cabo nodded. “Understood. If I can be of any assistance, let me know. Now, on to the reason you’re here…

” He glanced at East and Vega before continuing.

“The jet is set up and ready to go. Pavia will meet you there. While you handle your business, he’ll handle his and you’ll be back before the sun comes up if all goes well. ”

“We’re good with ours. As long as there are no complications with his movement we shouldn’t have any issues,” East stated with confidence, sharing a look with Vega who nodded as confirmation.

“Perfect. If anything goes wrong, Pavia knows to handle it. Unless you’re caught in the act he should be able to handle any issues you have, and even then, I’m sure he has the ability to find a loophole.

He amazes me sometimes but it’s why I keep him around.

” Cabo chuckled at the thought. He was extremely careful and smart about business, but he was well aware that his lawyer was also a factor in why he never had any legal issues.

“We aren’t getting caught,” East looked Cabo right in the eyes and he smirked at his confidence.

“I assume the ladies aren’t aware of your plans?”

“Hell no,” Vega said, then laughed to himself. His reaction caused both Cabo and East to do the same.

“I just told Joi we needed to get away for a minute. She didn’t ask questions.”

“Good, that means she trusts you. Everything is set up. So, for now, make yourselves at home. I’m going to find my lady before she kidnaps that boy. I have a feeling she’s already mapping out a plan.”

The men laughed at the idea, but Cabo also welcomed a seriousness he knew existed. It was bittersweet but he and Ava chose their paths and it was too late to detour.
