“I guess you’ll find out,” I teased. “Ready for the gym? We can work off this terrible food we shouldn’t have eaten. Maybe go for a run after on the river?”

“Sure thing, chicken wing.”

At least with a friend like Ty, I thought I’d be okay.

The gym was insane. It was pretty distracting. Both of our heads were on a constant swivel. To be honest, it was kind of a challenge to work out. We got about twenty minutes into some weight work and I was done. I knew I wasn’t focusing properly.

“We’re going to have to use another gym if we are ever going to work out for real.”

“I don’t know about you, but my blood’s flowing.” Ty winked.

“Yeah...thanks for that image. You ready to run yet?”

“Gimme a sec to adjust myself and I’ll meet you outside.”

Ty had no shame. One of his best qualities.

It was about a mile to get to the river.

We were running at an easy pace. This was more to relax for me than to push myself, and Ty knew that.

We turned north to head toward Kangaroo Point, soaking in the atmosphere.

It was early evening, so the sun was already behind some of the taller buildings.

The Riverwalk reminded me of its namesake in Tampa.

I would often jog there when I had the time.

“So, how’s your first Olympics so far?” Ty asked.

“Just feels the same as Worlds. I mean, I can feel the pressure a little, but only the athletes are here right now. I bet that changes after the opening ceremony.”

“You got that right. It’s electric. Something changes in the air. The stadium, packed with people. That quiet gym we were practicing in today will morph into an arena that practically hums with tension.”

“Is that what it was like last time?” I asked.

“Look, not gonna lie. It’s kind of terrifying. The women’s team has been bomb for ages, and while everyone knows the guys’ programs aren’t as strong back home, the same amount of pressure is on the men’s team. We’ve cracked before.”

Ty was talking about the last Olympics. The only guy that hadn’t fucked up was Danny Santerre. But it was Ty’s first games and like the rest of the team, not his best. They were capable of a lot more. Ty, Graham, and Grant were all returning. Cam and I were the newbies.

“I have a good feeling about this one,” I said.

“Me too.” Ty smiled. “Want to turn around and head back?”

“Sure.”

When we got back to our room, Ty stripped first.

“No shame,” I observed.

“You’ve seen it all before. You finally want to join me?”

“I like my men with a little more brains and less brawn.”

“Going to be hard to find that at the Olympics.”

“I’ll be the judge of that.”

I went over to the window overlooking the river, sat down, and opened Grindr. Might as well get a head start.

I didn’t even get to look at any photos before the blips started going off.

Want your cock sucked?

Damn...you look tasty.

I’ve got a package for you if you want to unwrap it.

Are you bottom?

Sweet nips. They need some attention?

I closed the app. That was a little sensory overload. Maybe later. After a shower.

“Hurry up, Ty!” I yelled. Each room had its own bathroom and a mini kitchen, so that was nice. “Maybe I should’ve joined you! I would’ve been clean by now!” When he didn’t respond, I added, “You better not be jacking it knowing I’m heading in there right after you, you jerk.”

Ty came out with a sheepish grin and a towel that barely fit around his torso. “What? The chorus of Grindr blips I could hear from all the way in there not keeping you company?”

I rolled my eyes, stripped, and headed into the bathroom.

I don’t know why I was so intimidated by Grindr. I barely used it at home.

It’s just ever since Ty told Cam to get laid, I had been on edge.

I would guess my parents’ ultimatum of no relationships almost made me scared to have sex.

It was hard for me to have sex without an emotional component because you were pretty much at your most vulnerable when you were completely naked with a person and one of you was inside the other.

I only had drunk hookups back at college because, with enough alcohol, I didn’t have the capacity to think about my feelings.

Drinking was out of the question right now, so I was going to have to be more methodical about sex.

Try to find someone that was a little more gentle and not so in my face with a dick pic and pick up lines made for porn.

The right balance of ‘I’m comfortable with you naked and sober’ and ‘you’re not relationship material because this is a one-off at the Olympics. ’ Easy peasy.

I came out of the bathroom as Ty was heading out the door.

“Going to see if Aussie girl wants to make out. Don’t wait up!”

“Good luck.”

I shook out my mop of brown curls and pulled on a purple Andrew Christian jockstrap. My favorite brand and my favorite fit. I lay on the bed, snapped a pic over my shoulder of my cheeks peeking out and posted on Insta again.

I was a spokesperson for AC, so I had to post one to two times a month for them. It might as well be now, maybe get some confidence up before tackling Grindr again.

I know it was kind of sad to rely on social media for a good portion of my self-esteem, but I always had a hard time making friends.

Not sure if it was the money, the strict parents, the lack of emotional understanding created by the absence of aforementioned strict parents, or all of the above.

I don’t know. It was sometimes easier to pretend to be the confident, out, proud, muscular, Olympic gymnast than to actually be that person.

Whenever I was alone, my thoughts always swung this way.

That is to say...down. Don’t I deserve to be close to someone?

Blip.

More cocks. Delete. More butts. Nice looking. Delete.

What do I have to do to get my cum down your throat?

Send a little more than that, mister. Delete. Although...very hot.

ClosetKase: Hey there, I haven’t ever done this before. But in your profile, it says you’re 5’6'' and 141 pounds. Is that true?

Well, this was certainly different.

Alex: Haven’t done what? Send a text to a stranger, or ask a personal question about someone’s bodily statistics?

ClosetKase: Uh...both? Lol.

ClosetKase: So?

Alex: Pushy much? I like. ;)

Alex: I mean, I haven’t gone on a scale today, but yeah, I should still be in the ballpark.

ClosetKase: Okay, good.

Alex: Can I ask why?

ClosetKase: Sure.

Alex: ....

Alex: Smartass.

Alex: Why?

ClosetKase: I can’t really explain it fully, but I’ll say that I’ve been hurt before and I don’t want it to happen again.

Alex: Okay, damn. Thanks for the honesty. I won’t pry. :)
