Chapter Seven Dylan
Silas still hovered around us during class and in the cafeteria. Any time we were in the dorm, though, he didn't press to spend time around us. It was like he was hoping my mates would drop their hatred for him and let him near me so we could work on things.
But that would not happen.
Jackson's hatred toward him wasn't as much as it was before they fought.
Teowulf's therapy sessions seemed to work for everyone who did them during class that day as the week went by.
Drama still popped up around us as people got on each other's nerves.
Tension was high with the curfew and other rules being enforced.
Which was getting on everyone's last nerve.
A group of werewolves were gathering together, trying to leave campus to go to Mystwood. I overheard them planning behind the dorm room after dinner and thought I could help them understand how stupid of a plan that was.
"There is a killer out there, and you want to risk it? They are targeting us and will kill you. You aren't untouchable," I told them as I rounded the corner.
One of them was someone from combat class, and I shook my head.
I thought he would be smarter than this, but I should've realized he would push boundaries.
Silas didn't seem all that sorry for pissing off his friend and making him challenge him at class either, so why would he be sorry about testing the boundaries of the new rules set in place?
He must be a Beta who would love to become Alpha from the way he acted.
He glared at me like he wished he could challenge me right now. With Hunter and Jackson at my sides, he wouldn't dare.
"Wrong, princess. They are targeting Shadowborns. I can trace back my lineage to the first werewolves created, and none of them were Shadowborn. I think I'm safe."
My eyes couldn’t roll hard enough. "What makes you think this killer will stop there?" I challenged .
No one knew why Lupe was stealing Shadowborns, but I did.
She could be working on how to break the walls of non-Shadowborns by now.
I hadn't seen Lupe all week, and tomorrow was my mentorship with her.
I couldn't wait for it because it meant I could potentially beat the shit out of her. Would they expel me if I killed her?
"Because they are the Enforcers’, like your mate back there, work. Wiping the remaining Shadowborns from existence sounds like what this killer is doing. Maybe it is an Enforcer... you should talk to your mate about that."
I had to stop myself from looking up at Hunter.
I wouldn't let this guy get a rise out of me and question my mate.
He was trying to flip my thoughts into thinking it was Hunter this entire time.
My mate wouldn't do that. He would have confessed that to me by now if he had started this before he met me. Hunter was a better man than that.
"Nice try. This isn't an Enforcer. They Enforce the laws of our kind. Shadowborns haven't been breaking the laws."
He laughed and his cronies joined in. Jackson and Hunter growled as they moved closer to us. If they wanted a fight, they would get one, but these guys were stupid if they thought they would be the victors in this fight. There were four of them and three of us. We could take them.
Silas walked out of the shadows and stepped in front of us. All three of us growled in surprise, but then I noticed the others stopped walking to us with Silas there.
"Back the fuck up and stand down. This isn't the fight you want to take on, I assure you. If you think an Enforcer is running around killing the students here and others in Mystwood, then why would you pick a fight with one?"
The leader glared at Silas. "They think they are the shit and run this damn school. Pierce there seems like she thinks people are beneath her because of her being a Shadowborn-"
"When the fuck have I ever said or acted like that?"
"You walk around with your nose in the air like you are better than us."
I shook my head. "No, dude. I walk around with confidence, and I don't enjoy talking to anyone , let alone people who act like dickwads. If you thought all females were cute and cuddly, then it looks like I proved you wrong."
His posture changed like he hadn't considered that, but then he went back to glaring. "Whatever. Just stick with your mates and then get the fuck out of the school."
They turned around and went back to the small fire they had burned.
I wanted to deck them for even saying that to me, but Silas turned around to look at us.
He bowed his head, put his hands in his pockets, and then walked toward the dorm.
I thought about stopping him and thanking him for coming in to help us, but he didn't give me the chance.
My guess was he planned to give me the space I told him to give me.
I still want that damn letter, though.
~*~*~*~*~*~
I didn't want to be in class with Lupe. The thought of being around someone who wanted to kill me felt ridiculous.
I had to trust in myself enough to get away, but I didn't know if that would work.
Instead, I asked Hunter to sneak around nearby to monitor us.
When I walked onto the mats from combat like usual, I noticed Lupe was walking with Silas next to her.
What the fuck is going on?
When Lupe spotted me, she gave me a smile that made me want to throw up.
Her joy was evident, a stark contrast to my own displeasure at encountering them.
This was not what I signed up for. Silas shouldn't be here.
This should be my time to get some hits on Lupe and demand answers from her about her plans, not to have Silas here as a meat shield.
As he approached, I noticed that his bruises and cuts from the fight with Jackson had healed. I frowned, knowing the evidence of Jackson's win wasn't there anymore.
They were closing the distance when I finally spoke. "What the fuck is he doing here?"
Lupe frowned at me. "I wish you would stop using that language with me. Whether you like it or not, I am your teacher, Miss. Pierce."
"I don't give a shit about what you want, Lupe. Why is he here?"
"Given you have made substantial progress toward gaining control of your astral form, I thought your mentorship classes could use a new direction.
Now, with Mr. Lynch here, I thought it would be best to add him into your mentorship class, as in merge your classes, so you two can work on things together. "
I glared at her. "What? No."
She narrowed her gaze at me. "Listen, Dylan. I understand you aren't happy with circumstances with Mr. Lynch being here. However, if you want to leave the academy at the end of term, I suggest you go through this class as I dictate it. Understood?"
I growled at her and balled my hands into fists at my sides. More than anything, I'd love to throttle Lupe for even suggesting I do this. Silas needed to work on understanding Shadowborns from Wilcox. He was not supposed to encroach on my class. Was this how she got around using Wilcox?
"Why isn't he learning about Shadowborns from Wilcox? That is something I am requiring from him so he can graduate. Why isn't that happening?"
She closed her eyes and nodded. "Ah, yes.
I knew you would ask that. Unfortunately, Professor Wilcox cannot take on this assignment.
I thought it would be a great idea for him to learn from being around you.
You can shift into your astral form so he can see how your magic works, through combat, or just general lessons.
Between that and sorting things out between you, I think that would cover what you have required for him to complete for his mentorship, don't you think? "
There was a twinkle in her eye that annoyed me. She knew this would fit that requirement and got one over on me. I didn't like this one bit. As much as I hated this, I didn't have another option. This was the only thing I could do right now to graduate at the end of the term as planned.
I gritted my teeth as I glared at them. Silas looked uncomfortable with his hands in his pockets.
His gaze never left me as I argued with Lupe either.
I thought he would add in how he didn't have to do this if I didn't want him to, but I think Lupe already had this discussion with him.
He knew he couldn't argue his way out of this for either of us.
"Fine. If I have no choice, then I have no choice."
"Fabulous," Lupe said and clapped her hands together.
"I'd say for this week I will take a page out of my mate's book.
Let's have ourselves a little sparring match.
When you two are finished here, then you can work on your other issues.
This is a way to get your aggression out and settle things between you.
The match will be to knock out or tap out. "
The smile on my face made Silas flinch .
He felt the way I wanted to get this aggression out just by looking at my face.
Silas sighed and walked onto the mat. He looked defeated more than anything.
I wished he wouldn't look like that. I wanted him to be the flirty, pompous guy I met a few months ago.
That's how he should be, especially if he wanted to win me back.
I followed him onto the mat and rolled my shoulders.
Silas stood like he did with Jackson, almost like he was bored.
I knew better than that. He didn't want to do this because he thought he would win.
Silas forgot who I was and the things I could do.
It was time to show Silas why I was mated to Alphas.
