Chapter Twenty-Five Dylan
There was something about this bond that made me wish it could last a lifetime.
It was supposed to fade, but since it hadn’t, I used it to call Arabella down to the academy.
There was a fear of her being too busy to answer my call, but I felt through the bond her recognizing the pull and a wave of urgency coming back down to me.
She was coming, and I needed to get to a place where she could see me.
Urging everyone to get outside so we could get ready for this, none of them seemed happy with my plan. My three mates were growling and snarling at me when I said an angel could carry them to the pack to save time. I thought Hunter would be the most vocal about it, but I was wrong. It was Jackson.
“So you mean to tell me some dude with wings will carry me across to your pack? No. I will not be manhandled by a dude with wings.”
I shook my head at him. “It’s our only shot at getting there in time.”
“We are wolves, love. There’s a reason you don’t hear about us on planes. We don’t deal well when being in the air,” Hunter told me as he stepped out of the dorm and into the night air.
The exasperated sigh that left my mouth showed my annoyance. If it was for anything else, I’d understand not wanting to do this. But with an entire pack on the line, their whining just made them seem like babies instead of badass men.
“Hate to break it to you, but this is our only option. I will not sit here and let my pack fight against that monster without me. Not when I know I can put an end to her, so you can either back your ears and take an angel with me, or you can stay here until you find a way that makes your princess wolves comfy and risk me being dead by the time you get there because I’m not waiting for comfort to save my fucking pack. ”
They grunted at me as Sera looped her arm in mine. “We will get there in time. Teowulf said Lupe left when Silas was fighting you off. That phone call to your pack had to be a fluke. She couldn’t have gotten there that fast.”
There was some truth to that, and I knew I needed to calm down.
There were black spots swimming in my vision from how coiled my nerves felt inside me.
There was a small chance Lupe had another way there than the cars or trains, but Teowulf didn’t think so.
The other species weren’t too happy with her since she didn’t seem all that bothered by the missing werewolves in and around the school.
As the councilwoman of our species, she should have been looking into it.
Since she wasn’t, they didn’t trust her.
But that didn’t mean she was getting there now. Or she got there just as I called. That was thirty minutes ago, and time was ticking by far too fast.
When we were all outside, I heard the beating of wings and looked up at the sky. Five different sets of wings came into view. I was mesmerized; the thought of having wings myself was incredibly awesome. The six of us stood off to the side as they touched down.
Arabella’s black hair made her look like a goddess as she fanned out her white wings.
When she tucked them behind her, her piercing blue eyes found mine and gave me a smile.
A huge male that rivaled Hunter in height came beside her.
His long blond hair fell to his shoulders, and it looked like it fell over his green eyes to hide them away.
The dude looked like he thought he was better than us with his expression, but I didn’t know him to confirm it.
Another guy stood behind him where I could barely see his black hair.
I lifted my eyebrows at him because it looked like the guy was hiding behind the one in front of him.
These are supposed to be the badass angels? Jackson joked through the bond.
Another black haired one stood on the other side of Arabella and looked like he could punch through a wall from how built he was.
He stood just ahead of Arabella like he was protecting her from us, which was similar to how Hunter was standing before me.
Then there was Talia, who gave me a smile and a curt nod when she noticed me looking at her.
Arabella is a friend. You don’t have to be such a guard dog with her.
You met her twice and haven’t seen her since. Besides, friend to you or not, I don’t know these people, so I am going to stand between you.
She showed up for me, didn’t she?
The banter with my mate distracted me, but I noticed the last angel standing near the one I’d previously seen.
He was somehow in enough shadows for me not to make out any of his features, but I knew he was there.
This didn’t help Hunter’s need to protect me, and I noticed Jackson and Silas join in standing on either side of me to keep me and Sera away from the angels.
“Will you all stop it?” I shouted and moved them out of my way. “Arabella! I’m so glad you could make it. Can you fly me over to my pack? I think shit is going down there, and I need to get there now before it’s too late.”
Arabella looked over at the rest of the crew and nodded. “Yeah. I can take you two girls, and my mates and Talia can carry one of yours a piece.”
It was more annoying to see the others trying to tell one another who was carrying who.
It felt like there was a pissing match happening right now, and I didn’t want to deal with it.
“Take me and Sera now. If these guys want to have a dick measuring contest, that’s on them, but I need to get to my parents, and we have little time. ”
Arabella had us turn around and grabbed onto our waists, and her wings spanned out on either side of her. When she took off, my stomach felt like it dropped out of my ass. I screamed because I didn’t enjoy seeing the ground disappear as Arabella took us higher.
My mates all tried to argue with me in my head about leaving, but I could see the others being carried by the angels once I was high enough in the air.
The speed at which Arabella flew had the air whipping around me, and the world below was a blur.
I had already told Arabella where my pack lived, and it came into view quickly.
There had to be some hope that I would get there in time.
I tried to listen as my pack land came into view.
As I looked down, my stomach twisted, and I wanted to vomit as the world spun.
I could see why wolves didn’t go on planes now.
Being this far from the ground was not my favorite thing I’ve experienced while at this school.
Though there is a list of things that weren’t my favorite that had happened since going to that school.
As we flew toward the ground, it felt like the entirety of my stomach would end up coming out of my mouth.
The descent was much worse than the ascension, and I don’t think I would ever do this again if I was offered the chance.
Once on the ground, I fell to my hands and knees and kissed the grass.
Oh, how I missed this grass being under my feet, any grass for that matter.
I heard some laughing behind me, and I stood up and faced my angel friend.
“Thank you, Arabella. I can’t tell you how helpful this was to me. I appreciate it so much.”
The others were landing behind her, and I needed to wrap this up to get to the pack house.
The pack bonds thrummed to life now that I was close enough, and I couldn’t feel much of anything, but they could have all shut the bonds down so it wouldn’t distract the others in battle.
It was something my father trained us on, which has made our pack the strongest of the Shadowborns.
“Not a problem. Do you want us to check on things with you?”
“No. I would rather you return to the things you have been dealing with. This is my fight, not yours.”
She leaned her head to the side and made a face. “You sure? We would be useful in a fight. Hand-to-hand, swords, the wings...”
I shook my head. “I don’t know what Lupe has in her arsenal. I’m sure she has heard we have come in contact and would prepare for you to join this battle. I can’t risk that.”
Arabella smiled. “I can see why your goddess blessed you with being an alpha. You sound like a good one.”
It made my heart happy hearing someone point that out. It wasn’t said to me often. My parents kept telling me I was making too many mistakes to lead a pack, but Arabella didn’t seem like she thought the same as my parents.
“Be safe, Dylan. If I feel you are under too much stress, the bond will tell me.”
“Oh yay. Another protective and possessive person bonded to me. Here I thought having three of them was the perfect amount.” I rolled my eyes but still gave her a smile.
“Pretty sure I can say the same.” She looked back at her mates, and I could see the same look I give my mates.
I wish I could go back in time and tell myself having mates wasn’t something to fear.
Sure, they got on my nerves more times than I could count, but they were my rocks that anchored me in this world.
They were there for me more times than I could count now and haven’t kept me from growing.
If anything, they were the reason for my growth, and I had a lot to be thankful about in having them.
I heard that, t hey said in unison.
Oh goodie... all three of them can hear me and can play off each other. Just what I needed. I thought it was bad when Jackson and Hunter did this, and now I had to worry about Silas joining in.
Arabella took off along with her mates, Talia, and Talia’s mate into the sky.
Part of me wanted to watch them to see where exactly they flew to, but I had something much more important on my hands.
I turned and ran toward my pack house and felt everyone on my tail.
My mates allowed for Sera to be directly behind me, but the rest of them flanked us until the clearing before the house.
