A layoff has left her one last chance, so she comes to Vegas to profile Jett Sturgill, the Vipers' golden boy and the cocky hockey star every magazine wants but none of them truly understands.

She knew him sixteen years ago, in the town they both left behind, right before she hurt him worse than she has ever hurt anyone and refused to look back.

He recognizes her before her own name is fully out, and rather than ban her from his arena he turns on the easy, flirtatious front he saves for reporters, practically challenging her to uncover the man behind it.

Finding that man was never going to be the difficult part of the assignment.

The difficulty is what she finds there: a career-making story tied to the one person she cannot stand to surrender, her subject and her deadline, and still the man she wants anyway.
