KIERA

As Dom and Spencer dragged Isaac down the steep hill, Leo and I tried to clock any new guards that may have popped into view. But for every one I saw, an Oracle plant would appear to dispatch our enemy.

From their catering aprons, Oracle spies would whip out pistols and knives to continue the fight.

Isaac was nearly tumbling down the slope, being pushed by Dom every few feet to keep him moving.

Tumbling to the ground, Isaac wailed. “I won’t let you take me!”

Spencer holstered her pistol, leaving Leo to cover our flank as she grabbed Isaac’s arm and hauled him up with Dom on the other.

A high pitched whistle zipped past my head, forcing my hands to my ears and my body to duck. “Shit!”

“Keep moving.” Leo nodded to me, checking just long enough to make sure I was okay before turning her attention back to the hostiles closing in.

At the base of the hill, a speedboat was tied to a small, rickety dock. Something that normally would have been used for sunset trips for couples on vacation. Now, it was our getaway plan.

Dom and Spencer tossed Isaac into the boat in one sweeping throw. Thudding against the marine vinyl, Isaac winced.

Another thud followed as Dom leapt into the boat, pressing her heavy boots into her dad’s wrists. “Stay down.” She hissed at him.

Spencer untied the boat as I climbed inside, accepting a hand from Dom as I tried to stay steady on the high heels that had been plaguing my feet.

Thank god I’ve been doing PT.

Without it, I wasn’t sure I would have even made it to my seat in these death traps.

Heading to the helm, Spencer turned the key in the ignition. “Get in, Major!”

Leo took one second to look away from the fight unfolding at the top of the hill, vaulting the side of the boat and sliding into the transom. Hidden there, a massive brown assault rifle was waiting.

She picked it up and tucked the shoulder bump into the ridge between her arm and her chest. Popping off the safety, she started to take considered, longer distance shots at the guards rushing down the hill.

Dom hauled Isaac off his back, tying his hands to a railing along the starboard side of the boat. From my crouched spot opposite Isaac, I could see how the zip ties dug into his skin.

Rubbing my own wrists, I sucked my teeth. Served him right after what his boy-prince did to me.

With everyone on board, Spencer threw the boat into gear and drove us away from the dock as bullets whizzed into the water around us. Leo had been smart to take out the snipers first, assuring that we’d be safe at such a far distance.

As we left the chaos of the wedding behind, the panicked screams and rippling bullets fading, Isaac yelled over the boat’s motor. “Madeline, please. It isn’t too late to stop this madness!”

Dom ignored him, heading to the helm and taking the wheel from Spence. “Good work, dude.”

With a nod, Spencer pulled her pistol and held it toward Isaac.

“Out of range.” Leo hollered over her shoulder, the wedding still visible to us. But any bullet that managed to travel this far would be less damaging than a pebble.

Lifting my head, I looked at the beautiful manor. From here, no one would have guessed how much blood had just been spilled. The entire venue would be filled with bodies by the time the violence stopped.

Squinting, I could see a screaming woman calling after us. My mother’s white dress was so splattered in deep red blood that I never would have realized she was the bride.

Her face was contorted with fear and anger as she watched us drive away.

I wanted to believe she was crying after me, the daughter she’d lost from her own selfishness. But I knew it was the bag of cash that called himself Isaac Dumont.

He’d corrupted everything in my life, turned every piece of gold to worthless shit.

It was time for Justice. Time to rid the world of his filth.
