Chapter 70 Kiera

KIERA

The idea of getting the fuck out of the shop was more than enticing after the day I’d had. Ever since Spencer brought me home last night, my life had been a whirlwind. First to the DA’s office, then trying to hunt down mansion records, and then cleaning up an apparent crime scene.

I needed a fucking break.

Whatever work had been done on Spencer’s bike must have been finished, because Spence rolled the blue Suzuki off the small lift and brought it to the front of the shop, Leo following behind her with the bright red Ducati.

“Ready for a ride, Princess?” Leo winked as she passed me a helmet, slipped her own over her head, and flicked the visor down.

It reminded me of the night we met. How who she was didn’t matter to me.

The way I felt safe for the first time in my life as she brought Gabe to fucking floor with one clean punch.

My throat tightened at the thought, knowing now just how good her muscles would have looked from the force of the blow.

Shaking myself from the memory, I nodded. “Yep.”

As soon as Leo lowered herself onto the bike, I threw my leg over and positioned myself behind her. Spencer winked at me, our little secret still lingering between us. I knew she wouldn’t mind seeing me backpack Leo. She knew I still had a lot to figure out.

Being openly into two people wasn’t something I’d been used to. And a part of me still feared that they would become competitive — that this fun game would turn into something nasty.

Clicking the garage button on the dash of the bike, Leo revved her engine to life and pulled the bike out of the garage.

Once we were past the gate, Leo twisted the accelerator and ripped down the street.

The sound from her exhaust pipe bounced off the concrete of Downtown Valemont, announcing to everyone that the Violence was on the move.

Looking behind us, I watched Spencer quickly catching up.

A friendly race?

Even without seeing Spencer’s eyes, I knew her motives. She loved some competition, especially if I was involved.

Her bike was leaner, more agile. And as she pulled up next to us, offering a cheeky wave to Leo before zipping in front of us, her skill became apparent.

Without me on her back, Spencer was far more reckless than I would have expected.

It was a quick drive to the edge of Valemont, where an illuminated yet deserted parking lot sat waiting for us. At the very end of the lot was a bright sign for SaleMart. Nothing was more reliable than an SM, always open 24 hours, even in the most desolate areas.

I was pretty sure you could find one just like this in Antarctica if you tried.

Peeking over Leo’s shoulder, I checked the time on her dash. Past midnight on a weekday, the place would be completely dead. We’d have the run of it.

A part of me couldn’t believe how late it was, that I’d been cleaning that fucking car all day.

And that Dom was sitting on her ass the whole time.

Before I could let the anger brew inside me again, Leo pulled up at the front of the store. She threw down the kickstand and pulled her key from the ignition, giving my leg a firm pat to tell me to hop off.

Through her leather gloves, I could feel how strong her hands were. All the exploration I’d done with Spencer just a day ago only made me more curious about what Leo had to offer.

Grabbing a cart, Spencer wheeled it around to the automatic sliding doors of SaleMart. “Anything you want, babe.”

Leo and Spencer waited for me to walk in first, bringing up my rear and — I was sure — taking a peek at my ass while I walked inside.

The bright overhead lights would have convinced anyone that it was two in the afternoon. One exhausted employee sat at the checkout, tapping on their phone to stay awake. Each of us offered him a nice smile and then Spencer took off, sprinting a few feet and then jumping onto the cart.

“Think I can catch her?” Leo wiggled her eyebrows at me, she’d tossed her jacket into the cart, leaving her huge, tattooed arms on display for me.

Shrugging, I pursed my lips. “Maybe. Might get a kiss if you’re fast.”

That was all Leo needed to zip down the aisle, pumping her arms to catch up to Spencer and I jogged behind them.

Despite her work boots, she was shockingly fast. The cold outside was making it harder to get my energy out, cooped up in that house all day with nowhere to go.

Soon enough, I’d have to start working out with these muscleheads.

Spencer whipped her head around, confused. “What the fuck!” Lowering one leg to the ground, she gave the cart an extra push to the finish line.

But just before she could reach the soda aisle, Leo zipped past her.

“Ha!” Leo clenched her hand into a fist as she celebrated her victory, hands on her hips as she caught her breath.

By the time I caught up, Spencer was catching on to my race.

Standing in front of Leo, I looked up at her honeyed brown eyes.

A devious grin took over her face as she pointed to her lips. “Give daddy her prize.”

“What the fuck? If I knew there was a kiss involved, I wouldn’t have let her win.” Spencer threw her hands up in defeat.

Focused on Leo, I put my hands around her neck, lowering her face to mine. Her hands wrapped around my waist, her firm grip on me sending a jolt of excitement through my body.

Our mouths were just inches apart, a desperate electricity pulsing between our skin.

But I wasn’t ready to play with her heart, not yet.

Just before our lips could meet, I turned my head and gave her a kiss on the cheek. “That’ll have to do.”

Leo swallowed hard as her grip tightened around my waist. The feeling of my lips on her skin was clearly sending waves of desperation through her body.

But the truth was, I knew it wouldn’t do, not for either of us.
