Chapter 73 Kiera
KIERA
Spencer’s driving was terrifying enough on a regular day, but given the excuse of running from the cops, she started hitting speeds I didn’t know were possible.
“Wooo!” Her voice carried back to me muffled as she pumped one fist into the air.
I squeezed her waist tighter, pressing my head into the alcove of her shoulders as I prayed she was keeping her eyes on the road.
The cops didn’t have a chance of keeping up with us at this speed, but the sound of their sirens echoing in the distance was enough to get my heart racing. And the sexy menace of a biker between my legs was enough to keep it that way.
As we rounded a curve in the road, Leo’s red Ducati pulled up alongside us, revving its engine in greeting. I loosened my fingers just enough to shoot her a little wave before Spencer revved her own engine, picking up speed.
As Leo sped up to keep in line with us, Spencer accelerated, keeping the two of us just a few feet ahead of Leo. Then, on a straight stretch, she kicked it into high gear, merging into Leo’s lane with another cocky rev.
It was impossible to hear her voice clearly back here, but no words were needed. She was fucking with Leo, challenging her clear as day. Has she fucking lost it?
We were on a public road, and going any faster would take this trip from risky to downright perilous.
But Leo wasn’t one to back down from a challenge. Twisting her handlebar, she zoomed toward us before swerving into the left lane, shooting Spencer a little salute, and racing off into the night.
Spence leaned forward, pulling my arms tighter around us as she picked up speed to match. I wasn’t sure how they could even see the road at this point — everything faded into streaks of light and shadow as we ripped through the air
But if there was anyone I trusted to navigate the blur of motion, it was these two.
I kept my grip on Spencer tight as my two bikers sped and swerved and weaved around one another.
As we got to a narrow stretch closer to home, Leo pulled back on her handlebars, lifting the bike into a wheelie that made my stomach turn.
Her balance on that rear wheel was precarious, though Leo’s expert handle on the bike made it look easy. I watched her drive like that for three, four, five seconds before I had to screw my eyes shut. I can’t watch.
But then, as if she could tell how nervous I was, I felt Spencer tense her shoulders and pull back. My stomach lurched as her front wheel left the pavement, popping a wheelie of her own.
My heart burned in my chest as gravity shifted around us. I felt the pressure of her back pressing closer to my chest, the lurch in my stomach as she picked up speed. The night sky was sweeping above us, and despite my terror, it felt like we were flying right through the stars.
By the time we pulled up to the house, the police sirens had faded into an afterthought, but I still clung tight to Spencer until the bikes were parked by the carriage house. Leo hopped off first, offering me a hand down from Spence’s Suzuki.
I’d have taken the help happily, even if I’d trusted my shaky knees.
But while I was barely keeping my snacks down, these fools were laughing so hard it echoed off the trees that lined the property. “How’s my dust taste, Moore?”
Spencer threw up her hands. “Oh please. If I wasn’t going slow for Kiera’s sake, you wouldn’t have had a chance.”
“You call that slow?” I balked, “You’re lucky I didn’t fall off the back. What’s wrong with you? That was so reckless!”
Spencer smirked, wrapping an arm around my shoulders. “I’m a pro, baby. You know I’d never risk hurting precious cargo.”
Heat flushed my cheeks as Leo caught my gaze. “If you think that was bad…”
I knew she was talking about the driving, but there was a darker truth lingering in those words. The Hollow and The Gauntlet had confirmed just how dangerous my angels could be, but I hadn’t realized how easy it would be to fall in with their unsavory patterns.
But now, I’d covered up a murder and run from the police in the same night. And instead of panicking or turning myself in, I was sitting in their driveway laughing.
Sure, it's easy enough now. But tonight is probably a drop in the bucket compared to what they’ll expect from me. Can I handle more?
I wasn’t sure. But as Leo handed me the bag of snacks she’d apparently been holding onto for the duration of that mad ride, I decided I didn’t need to know everything to know that this was right.
Her eyes flicking between us, Spencer smirked. “Why don’t you two head in? I’ve got some stuff to check on out here, but I’ll be inside in a little bit.”
Leo tilted her head with a frown. “How is your bike already acting up again? I serviced it a week ago.”
But as Spence gave my shoulder a squeeze, I cleared my throat and looked at Leo. “Actually, I’m getting kind of cold, and I don’t want to run into Dom alone. Would you mind walking me to my room?”
Hearing a lady in need, Leo stood at attention like the loyal golden retriever she was. Although there was something innocent and naive about a golden retriever, and the Major was anything but. More like a hellhound.
Holding out an arm to me, she escorted me down the gravel path from the carriage house to the mansion. I shot a quick glance over my shoulder at Spencer, who gave me two thumbs up and mouthed use protection before disappearing to pretend to work on her bike.
A snort slipped from my throat, causing Leo to look down at me with a furrowed brow. “Everything alright, Princess?”
“Yeah,” I murmured, gripping her arm tighter. “I just can’t believe how crazy that drive was.”
She smirked. “Yeah, next time you should probably ride with me if you want to avoid whiplash.”
“No kidding,” I laughed.
The conversation paused as she opened the door for me, closing it quietly behind us as we passed through the main foyer. But just being next to her as we crept up the steps was enough to make my chest hum.
Once I’d ripped off the seal on my sexuality with Spencer, it became nearly impossible to deny that I was developing major feelings for the Major. And as she laced her fingers with mine, leading me up the stairs, I got the sense that she was onto me.
Opening my bedroom door for me, Leo waved me in. “This is you, Princess.”
“Thanks,” I smiled, turning to face her as I stepped into the doorway. Our hands were still linked, but I didn’t plan on letting go until she did. “After the day I had, I really needed tonight. Thanks for being so steady.”
Leo smiled down at me, those golden flecks in her eyes sparkling in the moonlight. “Of course. You know I’d do anything for you…”
The sentence hung in the air, heavy with intensity I wasn’t sure she’d meant to voice. Startled by her words, she cleared her throat and moved to step away. “Goodnight, Kiera.”
But before she could let go of my hand, I squeezed hers harder, pulling her back in.
She furrowed her brow, confused until my lips pressed to hers. There was a softness to the kiss, and as I felt her melt into me, it was like electricity shooting straight through my veins.
Despite being more reserved than the kiss I’d shared with Spencer, it stirred the same butterflies at the pit of my stomach and answered everything I needed to know. I don’t know if I’m gay, but I’m certainly not straight.
My body craved hers. But before I could make my living situation any more complicated, I pulled away with a smile. “Goodnight, Leo.”
I closed the door quickly, not trusting myself to sleep alone if I gave her a chance to say one more charming word to me.
Pressing my back to the door, I could hear that she stood there for a long moment before drifting down the hall, footsteps more urgent than usual. I rubbed a hand over my lips in awe. If that was what a peck from Leo felt like, what would it feel like to give her all of me?
I wanted to know desperately. More than I’d ever wanted something before.
And the depth of that need scared me. Had it been a mistake, kissing Leo? I still needed to confess what Spencer and I had been keeping from her. And once I lifted the cork on these feelings, would I be able to keep my heart in check?
