Chapter 6
The Monster
The shift happens instinctively. Burning pain tears our bodies apart, cell by cell, and an instant later, in less time than it takes for our heart to beat a single time, we are one.
One fighter.
One monster.
Before us, the scent of fear spikes, flooding the air with bitterness. The Lyd’os don’t retreat even though they must know they can’t win, not with their puny bodies and their useless weapons.
We throw back our head and roar our anger, furious that our youngling has been threatened.
Then another scent catches our attention. It’s fainter, softer, more feminine and coming from somewhere behind us. Our attention splits, and we can’t stop ourself from glancing back, toward Rin.
It’s the female beside Rin whose scent is intoxicating. Like nothing we’ve smelled before. It threatens to distract us from our task, stealing our focus and driving an animalistic desire to hunt her.
And when we catch her, we will fuck her.
But no. Rin must be our first priority. Rin needs protecting from the Lyd’os still rushing toward us, their guns drawn.
We wrench our focus away from the captivating female, forcibly ignoring our need to surge toward her, and instead lunge forward, tearing through our enemies.
