I’d reached the stars, and they were in her eyes.
We emerged from the water like creatures from some primordial sea, our bodies glistening in the moonlight as we helped Tammy from the trough.
Water cascaded down her pale skin in rivulets that caught the starlight, mapping paths I found myself wanting to trace with my tentacles.
My security training demanded I maintain vigilance of our surroundings, but my attention remained fixed on her—the way her wet undergarments clung to her curves, how her teeth chattered slightly in the night air, and the unmistakable scent of arousal that grew stronger with each passing moment.
“You’re cold,” I observed, instinctively reaching for one of the towels we’d left draped over the fence.
My tentacles emerged without conscious thought, wrapping around the fabric and bringing it to her trembling form.
I enveloped her in the towel’s rough embrace, allowing my appendages to linger fractionally longer than necessary against her shoulders.
“Thanks,” she whispered, her voice carrying a husky quality that triggered an immediate physiological response in my reproductive organs. The scent of her—sweet, wild, undeniably Omega—intensified as I stood close to her, my body heat seeming to activate baser needs within her biochemistry.
Cyro and Kalith flanked us, their own towels hanging forgotten from their hands as they breathed deeply, drawing her scent into specialized olfactory receptors. I watched as patches of iridescent color rippled across Cyro’s neck, betraying his struggle to maintain his human disguise.
“Your dwelling is approximately sixty-seven meters in that direction,” I stated, attempting to focus on practical matters while pointing toward the darkened silhouette of her farmhouse. “We should relocate there immediately to prevent hypothermia.”
Tammy nodded, but as we took our first steps away from the trough, her knees buckled slightly. I caught her with four tentacles, stabilizing her against my chest. The contact sent electric pulses cascading through every appendage, making my skin flush deep burgundy beneath my human disguise.
“Sorry,” she murmured, her pupils dilating as she looked up at me. “I feel... strange. Hot. Like my skin’s too tight.”
“Your hormonal levels are escalating rapidly,” Cyro observed, moving closer until his shoulder brushed mine. His voice carried that wet, echoing quality that emerged when his emotional control wavered. “The chemical signature suggests you’re entering a phase of reproductive receptivity.”
“Heat,” Tammy translated, her breathing growing more rapid. “I’m going into heat. But that’s impossible—I’m not due for weeks.”
Kalith moved to her other side, his shorter tentacle escaping his human disguise to curl experimentally around her wrist. "Cyro thinks the three of us kicked your cycle into gear early," he explained, inquisitiveness momentarily overriding desire in his tone.
"Our pheromones, the alcohol, all that contact—together they’ve set off something unprecedented. "
We resumed our journey toward the house, moving at what should have been an efficient pace.
But with each step, Tammy’s scent grew more intoxicating, and our progress slowed as tentacles emerged unbidden to caress whatever part of her was nearest—her shoulder, the small of her back, the delicate curve of her neck.
Twenty meters from the trough, we stopped entirely when Tammy pressed herself against me, her face burying into my chest as she inhaled deeply.
“You smell like the ocean at midnight,” she murmured, her hands sliding under my shirt to explore the transition point where human skin gave way to cephalopod texture. “Deep and mysterious and dangerous.”
My control slipped further, more tentacles breaking free of my human disguise to wrap around her, pulling her closer. Beside us, Cyro’s entire neck was now exposed, his true nature revealing itself in undulating waves of pastel light that illuminated Tammy’s flushed face.
Kalith had abandoned his towel entirely, his smallest tentacle now joined by three others that reached for Tammy with gentle insistence.
“Your body temperature is rising,” he reported, his control evaporating as his tentacles contacted her skin.
“It will take us approximately five more Earth minutes to reach your bedroom.”
Tammy suddenly pulled away from my embrace, her eyes wild with a need that made my protective instincts surge. She looked toward the house, then back at the stables, clearly calculating. “Fuck it,” she declared, grabbing my hand and Cyro’s simultaneously. “We’re going to the stables.”
“The stables?” Cyro repeated, his tentacles rippling with confusion. “Are we... are we going to breed like the horses?”
The question floated in the air for a moment before Tammy’s laughter burst forth—not mocking, but breathy and charged with need. “Only if you’re hung like one,” she replied, the playful words nearly lost as she turned and pulled us toward the barn’s looming shadow.
I scanned our surroundings automatically, my security training never fully dormant despite the haze of desire clouding my judgment.
The perimeter remained clear, the horses all safely contained in the distant pasture, visible only as dark shapes against the star-speckled horizon.
Optimal conditions for what was to come.
The stable door creaked as Kalith pushed it open, his nimble tentacles and fingers automatically assessing the hinges even in his distracted state. Inside, the familiar scents of hay, leather, and horse enveloped us—earthy counterpoints to the electric tension crackling between our bodies.
“There,” Tammy pointed toward an empty stall at the far end, larger than the others and freshly filled with clean hay.
Kalith found an old lantern, his dexterous tentacles making quick work of lighting it.
The warm glow cast our shadows large against the wooden walls, transforming the mood inside the dim stables.
The stables had electricity, but I was glad that my crew brother opted for the ancient source of light.
It suited the feelings coursing through my body.
We moved as one into the spacious stall, our wet bodies already beginning to steam in the cooler air. Tammy sank down into the hay, then immediately grimaced, shifting uncomfortably. “Shit, this is itchier than I remembered,” she complained, running her hands over the prickly surface.
Before I could offer a solution, Kalith’s tentacles had already extended beyond the stall, his mind solving the problem before I could even digest the issue.
“Horse blankets,” he announced, retrieving several from nearby hooks. He laid them over the hay, then used his specialized secretion glands to spray the fabrics with a fine mist of warm, slippery fluid.
“That will neutralize any irritants and create a more compatible surface texture,” he explained, spreading the now slightly dampened blankets with meticulous care.
“A compatible… surface… texture,” Tammy breathed out as she watched, fascination evident in her expression. “Are you... lubricating our bed?”
“Essentially,” Kalith admitted, his shorter tentacle curling with what might have been embarrassment. “The secretion has antimicrobial properties and will create a more pleasant tactile experience.”
Tammy’s laugh was soft and genuine as she lowered herself onto the transformed blankets. “This is the first nest any Alpha has ever made for me,” she said, stretching out with a sinuous movement that made my pulse accelerate. “And it’s hay and horse blankets. Somehow that’s perfect.”
It struck me that Tammy was an Omega of advancing years. Not young, not old. She had been with that horrid human Alpha Derek. Had he never made her this thing called a “nest” before? Had he not treated her with tender care?
The questions would have to wait. The building need inside my body would not be ignored.
I joined her on the makeshift bed, my mind automatically noting exit points and defensive positions even as my body responded to her proximity.
Cyro settled on her other side, his bioluminescent patches casting ethereal patterns across her skin.
Kalith completed our circle, his tentacles already exploring the textures of her damp, darkened red hair with fascination.
As we surrounded her, Tammy’s body visibly changed—her skin flushing pink from her chest upward, her breathing becoming shallow and rapid.
The scent of her heat crashed over us like a tidal wave, triggering automatic responses in our alien physiologies.
My tentacles darkened to deep crimson, while Cyro’s glowed with intensified pastels and Kalith’s twitched with barely restrained eagerness.
“It’s happening,” Tammy whispered, her voice thick with need as she reached for me. “I can’t stop it. I don’t want to stop it. You all smell, God—” she moaned, lashes fluttering— “so amazing.”
She didn’t want to stop. Neither did I. None of us did.
Our scents mingled in the warm air of the stable—my deep oceanic musk blending with Cyro’s lighter, almost sweet marsh aroma and Kalith’s earthy, forest-floor richness.
But it was Tammy’s scent that dominated the space between us, growing more potent with each passing second.
She smelled of salt and sun-warmed skin, with undercurrents of the white-fleshed seeds of the tropics on my planet. Her scent made me salivate.
As her heat intensified, sweet floral notes emerged.
The algae blooms when the moons waned. The flowers that only opened at dawn twice a star cycle.
Tammy was as rare as those flora blooms. As beautiful.
As perfumed. Her body gave irresistible signals of her readiness and I felt every part of me begin to vibrate with need, my hues pulsing erratically as my control wavered.
