Cyro #2
I surfaced from the nightmare with a full-body shudder, my chromatophores flashing warning patterns of acid yellow and bright orange before I could suppress them.
The stable’s familiar scents—hay, leather, horse, and now the musky aftermath of our mating—grounded me back in reality as my respiratory system adjusted from the panicked rhythm of sleep to the measured pattern of wakefulness.
Carefully, I lifted what passed for my head in my natural state, noting the sunlight streaming through the stable windows.
Morning. We had survived the night, limbs and tentacles still entangled in improbable configurations that defied the neat categorization I personally preferred.
The dream clung to me like a parasite, images of my dying world and accusations from my people sending fresh waves of anxiety through my nervous system.
I had allowed myself to become distracted from our mission—our desperate, world-saving mission.
The water samples we needed remained uncollected, our ship not repaired, while I had indulged in pleasure with this fascinating Earth female.
A quick self-assessment confirmed what I already suspected: my form had almost completely reverted during sleep.
Eight tentacles spread from my central mass, their natural blue-green hue shimmering with bioluminescent patterns that pulsed with my heartbeat.
Only my face retained any semblance of human structure—a partial mask where Tammy had rested her cheek against me during the night.
Beside me, Kalith had undergone a similar transformation.
His earth-toned tentacles sprawled across the makeshift nest, one wrapped protectively around Tammy’s ankle, another still tangled in her copper hair.
His smallest tentacle had curled into a spiral.
Only the vaguest outline of his human jawline remained visible, like a half-finished sculpture emerging from living clay.
Vantor, however, presented a stark contrast to our relaxed states.
Despite deep sleep, his human form remained largely intact—only three tentacles had emerged from his lower torso, and his face retained almost all its human characteristics.
The discipline was remarkable, a testament to his security training and tactical mindset.
Even unconscious, Vantor maintained vigilance, his body positioned between the stable door and our vulnerable group.
I studied him, completely fascinated. Was it training alone that allowed such control?
Or had Vantor’s physiology adapted differently to Earth’s environment?
Perhaps his specialized security conditioning had created neural pathways that maintained camouflage even during rest cycles.
A study would be warranted—if we had time for such academic pursuits while our home world dried up and died.
The thought sent a fresh wave of guilt through my system, my chromatophores darkening momentarily before I regained control. I needed to begin working on the ship repairs immediately. The first step would be extraction from this complex tangle of limbs without waking the others.
I began the delicate process of unwinding my tentacles from the sleeping forms. One appendage had wrapped twice around Tammy’s waist, another had slid between her thighs during the night, while a third had somehow intertwined with one of Kalith’s, creating a biological knot that required careful manipulation to loosen.
As I slowly retracted my primary tentacle from beneath Tammy’s warm body, the sensitive suckers dragged across her bare stomach.
The contact sent unexpected pulses of pleasure crackling through me, each suction cup mapping the texture of her skin with such precision that my central processor became momentarily overwhelmed with sensory data.
I paused, forcing myself to regain my composure. This was simple biology—tactile input triggering automatic responses. Nothing more. I needed to complete the extraction and begin work on the ship.
My tentacle continued its careful withdrawal, brushing across the inside of Tammy’s thigh.
The soft, warm texture there differed subtly from the skin of her stomach—more delicate, with a higher concentration of the tiny mounds that humans called “goosebumps” that rose in response to my touch.
My internal temperature regulation system immediately malfunctioned, sending heat flooding through my reproductive channels.
To my horror, I felt my specialized mating tentacle begin to emerge from its protective sheath, responding to the biochemical signals Tammy’s sleeping body was unknowingly emitting.
The appendage swelled, lengthening as it escaped its containment, its sensitive tip already seeking the source of the intoxicating pheromones that had triggered its awakening.
“This is highly inappropriate,” I whispered to my own rebellious anatomy. “Return to dormant state immediately.”
My reproductive organ, apparently not subject to verbal commands, continued its emergence.
I applied neural suppression techniques, attempting to redirect blood flow away from the aroused appendage.
My efforts proved futile—if anything, the organ swelled further, its color deepening to a rich purple that signaled peak fertility.
This was absurd. I was a respected xenobiologist, not some juvenile experiencing his first mating cycle.
I had collected samples from a dozen different planets without once becoming distracted by reproductive urges.
Yet here I was, tentacle rigid with desire, unable to control my own physiological responses to this sleeping human female.
My tenuously held detachment rapidly failing me, I made a strategic decision.
If I couldn’t suppress the physical response, perhaps I could disguise it.
I concentrated on my human form, feeling my tentacles reluctantly retract as my body reconfigured itself.
The transformation was imperfect—hasty and partial—but sufficient to replace my obvious alien arousal with its human equivalent.
The human genitalia were, at least, somewhat less conspicuous than a fully extended reproductive tentacle, though the persistent erection still created an obvious protrusion beneath the blanket I hastily pulled across my lower body.
Not ideal, but marginally less alarming should Tammy wake suddenly.
As if summoned by my thoughts, Tammy stirred beside me.
Her eyelashes fluttered against freckled cheeks, and a soft sound—somewhere between a sigh and a moan—escaped her lips as consciousness gradually returned.
I held perfectly still, hoping she might drift back to sleep, giving me time to regain full control of my rebellious anatomy.
No such luck. Her blue eyes opened, unfocused at first, then sharpening as they found mine.
A slow smile spread across her face, and I was struck again by how beautiful this human was—not despite her alien features, but because of them.
The varied pigmentation of her skin, the remarkable color of her hair, the asymmetrical arrangement of her freckles—all created a fascinating complexity that my own species’ uniform appearance lacked.
“Morning,” she murmured, voice rough with sleep. Her gaze drifted downward, noting the tent in the blanket with obvious amusement. “Someone’s happy to see me.”
I felt heat rise to my face—a human reaction my partially-transformed body had adopted. “I apologize for the involuntary physiological response. My tentacle—” I stopped, correcting myself. “My reproductive organ seems to have developed autonomy from my conscious control.”
Tammy’s sleepy grin widened as she propped herself up on one elbow, careful not to disturb Kalith who still slumbered beside her.
“Don’t apologize. I’m flattered.” Her eyes narrowed slightly, studying me with unexpected perceptiveness.
“You shifted back to looking human. Were you trying to hide your tentacle boner?”
The directness of her question caught me off guard. “I... thought the human equivalent might be less alarming to wake up to.”
“Cyro,” she said, reaching out to trace one finger along my still partially-iridescent cheek, “I literally had all three of your alien selves inside me last night. Nothing about your anatomy alarms me anymore.”
Her touch sent fresh waves of desire through my system, and I felt my human disguise slipping further as my control wavered. A ripple of lavender washed across my skin, and I knew my eyes had reverted to their natural metallic state when Tammy’s pupils dilated in response.
“Besides,” she whispered, leaning closer until her breath warmed my face, “I kind of prefer the natural version. More... versatile.”
The last traces of my neutrality crumbled under the heat of her gaze.
How did she do this to me?
Make me want to abandon duty, science, and my true home…
