Chapter 37
Two hours later, Geo jostled her as he kissed her, keeping her from passing out. “Nah, Rue. Get up for me. Get in the shower real quick ‘n I got clothes there for ya, k?”
“Nnnn… just a few minutes?” she begged, trying to get him to move in closer to cuddle her.
“Nah, c’mon. We got shit ta do, le’s go.”
Sailor groaned as he pulled her into the bathroom, but woke up quickly in the shower as he helped her, smirking down at her as he soaped her up.
“What happened to hurrying?” she asked with a grin as his hands slid over her body, exploring.
“Yeah… ain’t shit happenin’ till we get down there,” he rumbled. “You good, Rue? You head on right now?”
“Yeah, Geo… I understand. I agree to your terms, such as they are. You don’t hit me anymore or kill people in front of me or on me or for me. You don’t try to control me, and I won’t try to kill you.”
“Or get away. You do what you claimed you would, start on them accounts ‘n shit. Alla that. You be mine?”
“And you’re mine?” she asked, blushing.
“Yeah, aight,” he chuckled, helping her rinse off. “You’s pretty tired, huh? ”
“I’m okay… I can wait as long as I need to,” she promised him, wondering what he had planned.
“Yeah,” he agreed. “Le’s do this, then,” he grinned, pulling her out and tossing a towel at her. “You got clothes there, Rue.”
She was inordinately disappointed as she got dressed, half wishing he was going to take her right back to bed. If she knew him, though, he was about to take her down and make her eat something.
Following him, she was immediately puzzled at the number of people in the large sitting room. It was packed, including her mother and grandmother sharing a sofa.
Geo led her through the people and stopped in front of a man who seemed to be there waiting for them.
“Mr Ruiz! Is this her? She’s lovely! Are we ready then?”
“Yeah, let’s fuckin’ do this,” Geo agreed happily as Mig moved up to stand on the other side of Sailor.
“Everyone, let’s all sit down and quiet down!” the man called. “Friends and family! We’re gathered here today to bond these two young people in holy matrimony!” he announced with a pleased smile as everyone went quiet.
Sailor jerked her eyes up to Geo as he smirked down at her, then she started giggling. She started laughing and couldn’t stop, falling into him and hugging him as he chuckled and held her. “C’mon, Rue, we gotta listen to this man and say yes ‘n all that. You wanted the whole ta do ‘n shit, you wanted to get ta say yes, so we’s…”
“Yes!” she cried, hugging him.
“He ain’t asked yet.”
“Neither did you! You said it was so and it is,” she giggled.
He chuckled, shaking his head. “Aight, yeah,” he called loudly, turning to the room. “So we’s married ‘n shit! Sign the fuckin’ papers and let’s get to the fuckin’ party!” he yelled and was answered with cheers.
Fee was the first to come and hug Geo and Sailor saw Justin behind him. He no longer looked like a clueless and lost boy, he looked… a little bit scary .
Davon caught her arm from the side and she looked up at him, her smile slipping away. “You look happy, Say,” he mumbled, looking over her face. “That so?”
“Yeah… I guess it is,” she shrugged. “I didn’t get it at first either.”
“Yeah. Aight. Well, good luck ‘n shit. I think I’m’a ask to move to my brother's crew.”
“You still work for Geo?” she asked, confused. “I thought he fired you?”
“He pulled me off you… put me on somethin’ else, but he didn’t fire me. You sure, Say?” he asked more quietly as Geo laughed with Fee.
“Positive,” she smiled, hugging Geo’s arm. “I’m where I want to be. Where I need to be… he’s not the nightmare anymore.”
“Yeah, I guess he ain’t,” Davon agreed, shoving his hands in his pockets. “So I guess this is goodbye. For what it’s worth, I’d’a done right by you, Say.”
“We both know it’s a lie,” she smiled tightly at him. “You would have resented me and been angry at me all the time for not falling in line. You’re still an immature brat in a lot of ways, and I’ll be honest, Day… I’ve never really liked you. You’ve always been this spoiled, entitled shit. You think because you’re hot that, girls should all fall all over themselves for you. I get that you had a real thing for me and I’m sorry for stating a hard truth so bluntly, but I don’t want you to harbor any hopes or resentment. It never would have been you.”
His jaw was set as he glowered down at her, but he gave her a nod. “Then it’s all good. See ya ‘round, Say,” he called, turning and leaving.
When she turned, Geo was looking down at her with a knowing look. “‘Bout time you let that fool down, he’s been pinin’ after you ‘n hopin’ to catch you up when I dropped you. Even after he knew I wasn’t fixin’ ta ever drop you. He was holdin’ hope. He ain’t holdin’ it no more, huh? Yeah, he’ll get his head back in it now. You good? ”
“Perfect,” she agreed happily, then pulled him to go over and sit with her mom and gramma. Her healthy mom and gramma lived in the same house as her.
She felt like her world was finally right.
