Chapter 5 Bags of Unopened Flour

I jerked awake.

The pain of having my throat cut was still there. I braced my hands on the desk, clapped them over my throat in terror, my heart lurching.

Around me was the familiar bedroom. Behind me came Grandma's muttering. "Songsong, stop reading. The exam is tomorrow. Rest early. You packed the Exam Admission Ticket, right? Bring extra pens."

That meant I had gone back to the past again, back to before the killers came to the door.

Was this an infinite loop?

I held my head and shook. Countless questions spun wildly in my mind.

First, the attack was not a coincidence. The problem was our compound was a rundown old block from the seventies and eighties, aging and poorly kept, but there were other residents. Why pick our home?

Before I could think it through, the door was knocked on again.

This time, I chose to shove a cabinet against the door, trying to buy more time.

The next second, a cold axe split through the door. Bang—

The wooden door cracked. Splinters flew.

One of Fei Kun's eyes pressed to the gap, staring at me with a giggle.

"Little girl, playing hide-and-seek? Then I'll play with you real~ nice~."

The door was smashed in with a crash. I raised a hammer without hesitation and charged the attackers.

I could not remember how many times I had been killed.

I had used everything in the house that could work. Insecticide, a hammer... I had even put pesticide in the noodles ahead of time, hoping Grandma would poison them when she cooked.

No matter what I tried, we still died.

No. There was no equation that could not be solved. Only the wrong way of solving it.

With no way to communicate, how could I get the police here as fast as possible?

I woke again and silently turned my gaze toward the kitchen.

Grandma was kneading dough in the kitchen. "Songsong, check again if you packed the Exam Admission Ticket. What about the pens? The eraser? Tomorrow morning Grandma will make you Number One Scholar rolls..."

Many bags of flour she had bought were still unopened.

And in the junior high chemistry textbook, there was a line:

Combustible dust, in a deposited state, has a tendency to spontaneously ignite.
