Chapter Jade #2

"Are you ready for the big moment?" Brenn asked, settling beside Jade's chair with the fluid movement that marked all the panther shifters. "Everyone's finished eating, and I think the anticipation might actually kill Talia if we wait much longer."

Jade laughed, her hand instinctively moving to her rounded belly. "I'm excited to find out if we'll be raising a little General or a little Queen in the making."

"My money's on General," Talia called from across the room. "The way that kid's been kicking, they're definitely going to be a fighter."

Raikar materialized at Jade's side with that predatory silence that always made her heart race. His large hand settled possessively on her shoulder, the warmth of his touch sending familiar heat spiraling through her body.

"Ready to see what the gender is now?" he murmured softly.

The completed mate bond hummed between them, carrying his anticipation and fierce protective love in waves that made her breath hitch.

After months of sharing emotions through their connection, she still marveled at the intensity of feeling this man was capable of—the depth of devotion he kept carefully controlled beneath his alpha exterior.

"More than ready," she said, accepting his help as she rose from the chair. Her movements had become more deliberate as her pregnancy progressed, but Raikar's steadying presence made her feel graceful rather than awkward.

Gerri appeared as if summoned, and she supervised Talia and Brenn's careful positioning of an enormous white box near the fireplace.

The matchmaker's eyes held that familiar golden glint that suggested supernatural forces at work, and her smile carried the satisfaction of someone watching her greatest masterpiece unfold.

"Places, everyone!" Gerri announced, her voice carrying the authority of someone accustomed to orchestrating life-changing moments.

The clan gathered in a loose circle around them, faces bright with anticipation and affection. Jade felt a rush of gratitude for these people who'd become her family—her warriors now watching with protective warmth, their acceptance complete and unconditional.

Talia bounced on her toes. "Come on, you two. The suspense is killing everyone."

"Speak for yourself," Veynor said dryly from his position near the wall, but his eyes held unmistakable fondness. "Some of us have patience."

"Patience is overrated," Talia shot back, earning chuckles from the gathered clan members.

Jade moved to stand beside the box, Raikar's solid presence at her back like an anchor.

She could feel his controlled excitement through their bond, and the way his alpha instincts were already shifting toward protective father mode.

Together, they gripped the edges of the box lid.

The moment stretched, electric with possibility, and then they lifted.

A cascade of small blue balloons erupted upward, floating toward the ceiling in a celebration of azure that left no doubt about their child's gender. The clan erupted in cheers and applause, but Jade barely heard them over the surge of pure joy that flooded her body.

A son. We're having a son.

Raikar's arms came around her from behind, pulling her back against his chest as his emotions crashed over her through their completed bond—overwhelming happiness, fierce protective love, and a determination so powerful it took her breath away.

This was how an Alpha loved, she realized.

Completely. Without reservation. With everything he had.

"A boy," he murmured against her ear, his voice rough with emotion. "Our son."

Jade leaned into his strength, her hand covering his where it rested on her belly.

Through their bond, she could feel his silent vow—that their child would know the love and emotional freedom that had been denied to Raikar in his own upbringing.

They would raise a son who understood that strength came not from control, but from the courage to feel deeply and love without reservation.

He'll be raised with discipline and structure, but also with the knowledge that emotions are gifts, not weaknesses. He'll know what it means to be chosen, not just placed.

The thought carried the heavy weight of her own childhood wounds, now transformed into determination to give their son everything she'd never had—security, unconditional love, and the absolute certainty that he belonged exactly where he was.

Jade turned slowly in Raikar's embrace, her movements deliberate despite the rounded weight of their son pressing against her ribs.

The blue balloons drifted overhead like scattered pieces of sky, but her focus narrowed to the man whose arms encircled her—this Alpha who'd become her anchor, her match, her everything.

Six months ago, I couldn't imagine trusting anyone this completely. Now I can't imagine existing without him.

Without hesitation, she rose on her toes and captured his mouth with hers.

The kiss started gentle, a sweet acknowledgment of their shared joy, but quickly ignited into something that spoke of jungle nights and desperate claiming, of a bond forged in fire and tested by trials that should have destroyed them.

Her hands fisted in his shirt, pulling him closer as his large palms framed her face with the reverence of a man worshipping at an altar.

Around them, the clan erupted in cheers and whistles, but Jade barely registered the sound.

This kiss was a declaration—to their people, to the universe, to themselves.

They were no longer two independent warriors learning to coexist. They were partners, equals, a force that could weather any storm because they'd chosen to weather it together.
