9. Jeremiah
Jeremiah
My hands clench the edge of the wooden bar as I wait for the bartender to bring me water.
I hate that I agreed to come out to this bullshit of a night. And I hate how hard and fast my heart is beating.
I refuse to look back at the table. They must all be staring at me, wondering why I’m such a freak.
I almost scoff to myself as I wonder what they’ll call me this time instead of Germ.
Scary Jerry? I guess it has a nice ring to it.
I should’ve known something like this would come up. The past version of myself was always here where I left it. Just waiting to ruin me. All this time…
As soon as I saw Chase Rutherford standing there in the boardroom, I should’ve known then. There’s no way to run away from your past when it’s staring at you straight in the face with green eyes and a wicked smile.
It’s only a matter of time before he drops this nice guy act and reveals completely who I was.
I won’t be fooled this time.
I can’t.
