Epilogue II
. . .
After dropping Dylan off at school for first grade, I hightail it home, knowing my wife is home, still in bed and waiting for me.
It's been months since we’ve had a regular morning in bed relaxing.
Now that her season is over, I’ve enjoyed having her home consistently.
During her hockey season, Dylan and I travel as much as we can to be with her, but Dylan is getting older and school has been trickier to manage.
Rushing home, I park my truck quickly and slip inside our Boston home.
In the past few years, we’ve filled the space with memories and made it truly a home together.
Every time I pass the living room and see our wedding photo over the mantel my heart warms. Today, though, my blood is on fire and I need to see my wife.
I’ve been waiting since yesterday for her to share her news.
I get to our bedroom door and open it, only to find the bed empty. “Sam!” I call her name into the space and go to the adjoining bathroom next. It's empty there as well. My heart hammers in my chest as I race back out into the hallway.
“Sammy!”
Her head peeks out of Dylan’s room and relief instantly flows over me. “Jesus, Pretty Girl. Why are you out of bed? I thought we could spend the morning together.”
She shrugs and slips out of Dylan’s room, leaning her shoulder on the wall and crossing one foot over the other. “I was thinking. Couldn’t sleep.”
My brow rises and I have a small moment of panic. Does she still not know or suspect? “I can help you sleep, baby,” I tell her, my arms sliding around her waist.
“That won’t turn my brain off,” she teases while my hands run up and down her sides, right under her breasts.
“I think I have plenty of ways to stop you from thinking, Pretty Girl.” I growl, my lips running along her neck.
I feel her shiver in my hold. My hands grip behind her thighs and I yank her body up into my hold.
Gently cradling her at the same time. Walking us back into our room, I set her on her feet, my lips landing on hers.
“Wait!” She holds up her hand, placing it gently on my chest. “There’s something I need to show you first.”
My body goes still. Excitement and longing battling in my veins. It's a true test of my willpower to keep a straight face. “Show me, baby.”
Sam takes a deep breath, and I can feel the anxiousness radiating off of her.
I want more than anything to tell her not to be nervous, that this is the second-best thing that's ever happened to me in my life, right behind Dylan’s birth and our wedding right after.
Sam reaches into her pajama pocket and pulls out a familiar looking piece of folded up paper.
My brow rises for real this time. I’m jumping from being certain to not knowing what the hell is happening.
Sam’s fingers tremble while she unfolds the list. “I crossed off a few more things.”
My gaze rakes over her familiar writing and my notes in most of the margins now.
She crossed off Graduate college with a degree in Sports Management, PWHL!
!!!!! Get engaged, Marry the love of my life, and now Win the Walter Cup at least 1x is also crossed off.
I feel my grin get bigger on that last one.
Only a few seasons and now she has a cup under her belt.
There’s even talk about her being eligible for the next Olympics.
My eyes drop lower and that's when I finally see it.
Babies has a heart by it with fresh ink that says, COMING NEXT YEAR!
“You’re pregnant?” I keep my face neutral, selling the shock and surprise that she would expect from me.
Sam smirks and tosses the list on my nightstand. “I sure am, Kane. Are you surprised?”
“Kind of,” I say, not completely a lie. “What about your implant?” I ask and feel myself growing hard just thinking about what her answer is going to be. It seems my girl has an obsessive streak as wide as mine. She’s just quieter about it.
“Had it taken out at my last physical before the end of the season.” Her eyes light with fire, and she prowls toward me. “Aren’t you going to ask me why I didn’t tell you?”
I swallow hard, my body responding instantly to her words and the way her hands feel, gripping my shirt and taking it off over my head. “Why, baby?”
Sam leans up, her teeth biting my bottom lip before kissing me slowly. “It’s my turn to trap you this time, Jameson.”
Fuck me. I could come just from hearing her utter those words alone. My whole body shakes, and my hands fist in her hair, tilting her head back. “Oh, Sammy. It’s not trapping me if it's what I want more than anything. You, our kids, this life. All you did was make yourself mine even more.”
Her eyes gleam before I take her lips with my own.
My hand slips between her legs, pushing the material aside, and find nothing but her silky, hot, wet heat.
Thrusting two fingers deep inside her, I decide to let her have this moment.
I’ll let her think I had no idea. That I didn’t notice the absence of her IUD right away when I was inside her.
That I didn’t have her medical records looked into to make sure my suspicion was correct.
And that I didn’t try very hard to push as much of my cum as deep as it could go, making sure a drop was never wasted and keeping it stuffed inside her once she started to fall asleep in my hold.
Anything my girl wants, she’s going to get.
We’re breathing heavily when I pull away from her lips. “Are you happy, Sam?”
She nods, and tears gather on her lashes even as she pulls me closer. “Yes. You make me happy, Jameson. You and our family.”
“Forever, Sammy. Thank you for giving me everything.”
Her hands roam over my face, sliding down my neck, until her fingers run along the tattoo of her lip mark. “I love you, Jameson Kane. You’re mine forever, too.”
Even if it takes my whole life, I’ll make her list of goals a reality. My dream came true the day I met her on the ice as kids. My only goal is to be the man worthy of her and our family. Sam’s love is the greatest rush.
The End.
