Chapter Nine

King and Bullet both stood up too.

“We aren’t going to let that happen.” King growled.

Bullet wrapped his arm around her shoulder and told her, “Damn right, we’re not. We’ll find them and stop them before they can even light a fucking match. We aren’t going to let her do diddy-fucking-squat. We will stop them, Andy. But you have to trust us to have your back.”

Andy leaned against Bullet and nodded. Tears made her shiver. “I know I just panicked for a moment. Fear like I’ve been living with doesn’t disappear overnight. I’m sorry.”

Bullet brushed a wisp of her hair out of her face and smiled. “I know sweetness but you have to trust us.”

Andy nodded at him. “I do trust you. You and these men have given me nothing but hope that I can finally be free of that bitch. I have to stay strong. I just need a little hug to get me through this.”

Bullet tightened his arms around her and hugged her close. “We got your back sweet Andy and don’t you forget that.”

King looked around. “Grab your weapons Fury and text Rocket on your phones if you see anything. Take your positions. Watch the fence lines and the woods.”

Several men grabbed their guns and headed for the roof. Grizzly went up with them, a rifle in his hand. Some moved out through the front and back doors.

Gunner motioned for his men, Gypsy, Skeeter and Moose to follow them out the back way while the others went to the windows. The tension grew in the main room while everyone was on watch.

Andy grabbed a handgun from the rack in the armory. She motioned for Avery to follow her. She and Avery headed to her room. They entered and went over to the window.

They were both looking out when suddenly Andy gasped and pointed toward the trees. “They’ve got to be crazy.”

Avery stared at a sight they didn’t really expect to see. “No way.” They figured Sarah and Lester would send men in, but not come onto the property themselves.

“Those two are too old to think they can fight the Fury themselves,” Andy said.

“I know, right? So that means they have brought lots of men with them.” They turned to go back to the main room to let them all know what they saw.

“Sarah and Lester are here and they don’t look happy,” Avery told them all when they got there.

“But they can’t do a lot themselves,” Andy added. “I mean Lester is sixty- three!”

“So we figure that they must have brought more men with them,” Avery added. “They’re coming in now.”

King gave them a nod. “Let them come. I am so glad they are so stupid. I wanted them to be bagged by us anyway.” Then he turned and gazed around at the men as he let out a war cry, “The Fury.”

The rest of his men echoed it back, “The Fury!”

King laughed as if this was shits and giggles for him. Like he’d been waiting for an attack and was happy to see it. “Let the fun begin, boys. We didn’t start this fight but we’ll damn soon end it.” He raised his magnum up.

Everyone rushed to the windows and they found themselves hunting the people looking to end them.

Shots were coming from the roof and the party of a dozen men scattered around the property.

Sarah and her dad were not anywhere to be seen.

The real firefight started now as the gunshots and pings grew louder and more fierce.

Andy and Avery headed down the hall toward Andy’s room when they heard a scream.

They both halted their steps.

Avery motioned to Andy and pointed further down the hallway.

They both moved toward one of the doors.

A shout came from behind that door as the sound of glass breaking joined it. Then a gunshot boomed out and another scream rent the air.

Jumping back, the girls were both frightened. They knew they needed to find out what was happening.

Avery motioned down the hall toward the men in the main room.

Andy shook her head as she mouthed to her, “No time.”

They both moved forward and heard scuffling now.

The girls stood on either side of the door as Avery reached down with a quivering hand to turn the knob.

Andy held the gun in her hand even as it trembled in her grip.

Avery threw the door open.

They both heard weeping now.

Slowly stepping in, they saw three things:

The window had been shattered and glass had been scattered everywhere.

Gabby was crying as she sat on the floor with Train’s body while cradling his head on her lap.

The bed where Gina should have been...was empty.
