15. Blaise
CHAPTER FIFTEEN
blaise
Seeing the faith she has in me and what we could be gives me such a good feeling.
She’s perfect.
I don’t want to leave her at all, but I know with them sharing a suite, the detectives will have questions.
This cruise left a trail of missing people and a body but not enough answers.
The voice of doubt in her and what we have tries to nag at the back of my brain but I don’t let it.
She’s mine and I trust her.
Plus, if she did try to turn on me, I could take her down with me, and I know my girl is too smart for that.
Finally, she makes her way out of her room with her luggage in tow.
Taking a deep breath, she squares her shoulders, appearing more confident than before.
“I know you’re worried about me, but Blaise, I can do this.
There is nothing here that connects me to her.
My tears are real, I lost my best friend and things will never be the same.
But how do I go back to our school and her parents and be okay?
Nothing is okay. She’s gone.” Her lip quivers, and she blinks back tears.
It breaks my heart to see her this way, but she’s right.
What does she have to go back to now besides heartbreak?
The words are out of my mouth so fast, I don’t have time to process my own thoughts. “Come back with me…”
Before she can overthink things in that beautiful head of hers, I push further.
“If you come with me, you can start fresh. Find a new position and we can see where this goes for us. If you don’t want to live together, I’ll help you find an apartment and pay for it.
I’ll give it to you in writing. You’d make more money teaching in New York anyways.
Don’t go back to the place that will bring you heartache.
I know it sounds crazy, but I told you, I really think you’re it for me and I can’t lose you. ”
Elodie processes my words and I cross the floor to wrap my arms around her.
“Please say yes. You can talk to the detectives and I will come back and pick you up once I drop Knox off at the airport. We can go back together and give this a shot in the real world. You know I have your back, baby.” I smooth her hair, making sure I say everything she needs to, praying she’ll say yes.
No simply isn’t an option.
She’s mine.
Slowly, she nods her head against my chest and I know I’ve won. Cupping her face with my hands, I kiss her deeply, consuming her the way she does me.
“Okay, I know people would say it’s crazy, but I feel safe with you. Honestly, you saved my life. I could have been her next victim. How could I say no?” She looks at me in adoration and I bask in that glory.
We kiss a moment more before making our way down and out the ship. I drop her off with the detectives then make my way to the car where Knox is waiting for me.
“Damn, dude. That took forever! We might miss our flight, hurry up!” Knox rushes me into the car and we take off.
“There’s a change of plans. I’m not flying back with you. I need to go pick up Elodie and then we’ll meet you back in New York.”
His eyes widen. “No fucking way. You didn’t tie up a loose end.
That’s new for you, and you left her with the police.
How the fuck is she that brainwashed? She can’t be that dumb, B.
So, tell me how the fuck you pulled off two bodies.
One of which got found, you dumbfuck. And you killed her friend too, didn’t you? ”
I can’t help but to laugh at his skepticism.
“I'm not worried. She thinks the boys were her own friends doing, and technically, El delivered the final blow to her friend. She’ll never know she was just passed out cold with a concussion when we dumped her over. I just cleaned her mess, and before you worry, I made a call, no body in the water to be rescued. She's for sure gone. I’m a savior, not a sinner, as far as she knows. Right now, she’s telling the police about how she and Jade got into a fight about the two guys, one that ‘went missing,’” I say with air quotes, “and the body that was found on shore. Both guys that hit on her but then were seduced by Jade. She thinks it was all jealousy and she ran away from Jade in fear and hasn’t seen her since.
She was in my room all night and you’re our alibi. ”
The car is silent for a moment before he claps. “I was pissed that you decided to do that on this trip, but since you have everything worked out, I can relax. You must really love this one to not have her head too.”
We pull into the airport in record time, and I put the car in park to help him get his things out.
“I do. She’s mine, Knox. I won’t lose her. Not now, not ever. She is a pretty little Storm that has wrecked me so thoroughly I never want to come up for air again. I’ve never felt this alive. Like my heart beats for something more than the blood lust.”
Knox whistles as he grabs his stuff. “Never thought I’d see the day. I am happy for you man. It’s a little weird, I won't lie, but you’ve never been a normal guy. Just get yourselves out of the shit show of cops quickly. I’ll see ya’ll at home. Be safe!”
He gives me a quick hug, taking off into the airport to get to his gate on time.
I hop in the car and head back to get Elodie.
She is mine, and I won’t ever give her up. I can’t.
I’m caught in a pretty little storm, and that’s exactly where I plan to stay.
