Chapter 10 #3

“You already are, babe. Ok, if we’re going to do this, let’s go all out.

Balls to the wall, complete makeover. What do you say?

” I realize this is exactly what she wants but was too embarrassed to ask for it.

Sadie is a sweet but shy girl for the most part.

As insane as it is, she’s been sheltered in certain areas of her life and one of those areas seems to be her ability to see her own beauty.

“You’ll help?” she asks hopefully.

“Absolutely. Let’s go.” I drag her out of the bathroom and to the salon that’s at the opposite end of the mall.

When we walk in I pull one of the stylists aside and tell her what we’re needing.

Sadie, G, and I follow the stylist over to her chair as she asks, “Are you sure you want to touch this gorgeous hair?”

“Yeah. I want a completely different look. Maybe something lighter?” Sadie sits down in the chair.

“G. Sin. Do me a favor and go to a few stores and start pulling some stuff that is sexier but still classy and age-appropriate,” I tell them quietly.

“When we’re done here, we’ll come find you guys and put her straight into a dressing room to try stuff on.

” The smiles on their faces are priceless.

It’s always fun to play dress-up with someone who’s going in a completely different direction for their look.

“This is going to be so much fun.” They take off, whispering to each other as they go.

Four hours later we’re finally leaving the mall, and when I pull out my phone I know we’re in big trouble for being gone so long.

Viper: Where the fuck are you?

Viper: Your ass better be home before 6:00

Viper: Thank you for taking care of my girl. Kidd said he’s never seen her smile so much.

“Good looking out, Kidd,” I tell the prospect, waving my phone at him.

“He was mad as hell but after talking to you, he’s chill again.

” I laugh at his expression when he realizes I know he was a tattletale.

When I look over at Sadie to tell her about her dad’s text messages, she’s looking at Kidd and not being discrete in the least, which I don’t think is intentional on her part.

She’s just that open and obvious about her feelings.

I need to talk to her about this so that if something is already going on there she can tell her dad before he finds out on his own.

He won’t be happy at all if he’s the last to know.

When Kidd pulls into the driveway, Draven comes outside and bypasses us to grab the bags from the back end of the SUV.

We follow him into the house and I’m happy to see that Nash is already here.

He doesn’t even notice us come in since he’s sitting on the couch, watching cartoons, and stuffing his face with a big slice of pizza. The kid has it made.

“You ordered pizza?” I ask Draven as I make my way into the kitchen in search of what Nash is eating.

“Yeah, we were hungry and tired of waiting around on your ass,” he complains as he follows me into the kitchen and goes straight to the refrigerator to grab the bottle of ranch that he sets right in front of me. “Want some of your tea, baby?” He’s already pulling it out.

“Yeah. With extra ice, please.” Which he dutifully supplies.

“Y’all have fun spending all my money?” Draven raises an eyebrow with his hand out for his credit card.

Reaching into my bag, I grab his card and give it back to him. “Yeah. Saw some really cute baby stuff while we were there, but I didn’t buy anything.”

“We’ll go shopping when we know it’s a boy for sure.” He smirks. He’s determined that this child is going to be a boy. Says he can’t take having another female in the house. He’s so full of shit.

“Kind of what I figured. Plus, I didn’t want to buy anything without you with me.”

“Tired?” He steals a bite of my pizza and earns a smack across the chest.

“Get your own, mister, this is ours.” I pout, putting my hand over my belly.

“Greedy.”

“You got that right. Hungry too. Where’d Sadie go?”

“Went straight upstairs. Probably hoping I didn’t notice all that blonde hair. Why’d you let her do that, she was perfect the way she was before,” he claims, not even realizing how sweet his comment is.

“She wanted to change up her look. Don’t be saying anything negative either. She’s a little nervous about what you’re going to think.” I point my finger at him accusingly. He doesn’t realize that sometimes the stuff he says comes out the wrong way.

“I hear ya,” he agrees right as Sadie comes down the stairs, going for the pizza box on the counter.

“Babygirl, did you have a good time shopping and getting your hair done?”

“Uh… yeah. What do you think?” She finally turns around so he can see her new look in its entirety.

“You look beautiful, Sadie. I like the hair, it’s different, but I like it.”

“Yeah?” She smiles at the compliment.

“Yeah,” he assures her and with that, she finally relaxes. We spend the next hour eating our dinner and talking about what we got for her at the mall before she finally takes off, heading home to her apartment.

Walking into our bedroom, I start stripping out of my clothes and grab one of Draven’s tees from his drawer to sleep in. Nash was a little chatterbox tonight and was refusing to go to sleep until I read him two stories.

“He give you a hard time?” Draven is holding the covers up for me to climb in.

“Nah. He just wanted some extra snuggles and an extra story.” My eyes start to droop the second my head lands on his chest.

“Worn out, ain’t you? Did too much today, woman. Got to start slowing down a little bit. Need to talk about Heaven’s Door tomorrow too. Don’t want you going back to work there now that we’re going to have this baby. I’ll find something else for you to do,” he says around a yawn.

“I was thinking about that today. We’ll figure it out tomorrow though. Goodnight, Draven. Love you, babe.”

“Yeah,” he sighs, making me giggle before wrapping my arm around his middle and letting sleep claim me.
