Salt of the Haunted House

Cats avoid the edges of Nuhad’s childhood house in Haifa, strange noises stir inside it, and residents have vanished without a trace.

Nuhad never went back after the Nakba in 1948, yet she kept the house in her heart, and the house kept her in return.

After Nuhad’s death, her granddaughter Marina, long shut out of her Palestinian culture and family history, resolves to see that home for herself.

Her mother, Haifa, who bears the name of the city lost to their family, agrees only reluctantly, knowing that some secrets are better left buried.

The house is no longer a refuge but a wound that sickens Marina as she digs, and Nuhad’s ghostly warnings do not stop Haifa from rushing to her daughter.

In the ancestral home, the three women must lay the haunting to rest before the past overwhelms them.
