Chapter 12

Chapter Twelve

Stella

Smelling the antiseptic smell of the hospital has me groaning. I slowly open my eyes, confirming I’m in a hospital bed. Great. Just what I need. I roll my head against the pillow tilting slightly to the side, seeing Angel sitting there—head bent, elbows braced on his knees.

Memories of what happened hit me, and I immediately feel sick to my stomach.

“What are you doing here?” I rasp, clearing my throat.

Angel whips his head back, his eyes coming to mine.

“Thank fuck.” The words come out gravelly and rough, like he’s got emotions bottled up inside him that he’s afraid to let loose.

Coming out of his seat, he’s at my side, cupping my cheek.

“You scared the hell out of me, Love. I could’ve lost you.

You and our baby. And I don’t think I could bear to ever do that. ”

“The baby’s okay?” The question comes with tears welling in my eyes. I could’ve lost the baby.

“Yeah, Stella, baby, our kid’s okay.” He reassures me, stroking my cheek, swiping at the tears spilling down them. “You’re both gonna be okay.”

Nodding, I remember the reason behind it all in the first place.

“Were you with Juniper today?” I blurt out.

“Fuck, no,” he answers without hesitation and narrows his gaze. “I would never do that to you.”

Seeing the truth in his eyes, I sigh. “I’m sorry.”

“Why’re you sorry?”

“Because I thought you were. Because she . . . you . . . she’s beautiful, way more than me.

And I’m not as experienced in things like her,” I ramble.

“She was in your room on the bed, and she looked like . . .” I don’t get to finish explaining due to Angel pressing his lips to mine, stopping me from going further.

The kiss is short and meant to silence me, but it’s also tender and sweet.

Angel lifts his head enough for us to lock eyes.

“Never would I touch that bitch. Not when I’ve got you.

She’s got nothing on the way you look. Pure beauty.

Class. Smart. And the most gorgeous woman in my eyes.

Dark silky hair, beautiful bright eyes, and a body that has me getting hard every time I look at you.

” He kisses me once more, pulls away, and sits on the edge of the bed at my side.

“Now tell me what happened at the clubhouse to make you leave when I told you to hang there.”

Diverting my gaze, I wring my fingers in the blanket.

My body aches, and my head is pounding something fierce.

I take a breath breathing out heavily and tell him everything that happened.

Starting with going to the kitchen and letting my brother and Isabelle know what the results were.

He tenses when I get the part about going to his room ready for a nap when I saw Juniper.

I lift my gaze to meet his, my breath nearly catching in my chest at the sight of the intensity in his gaze.

By the time I finish explaining the wreck, he looks ready to blow.

Slowly, Angel climbs off the bed and stands over me. “Next time I tell you to stay in place, do it.” With that, he straightens and stalks out of the room without so much as a sideways glance. I’m surprised the door doesn’t slam behind him.

A moment later, the ol’ ladies are swarming me with different expressions ranging on their faces.

Leaning my head back against the pillow, I close my eyes and sigh deeply, wishing Angel would come back and I knew everything was okay.

From the way he stalked out of here, I don’t know if it’s because of me or not.

“Are you okay?” Isabelle asks, grabbing my hand.

“Other than hurting all over, I’m okay, I guess. Angel said the baby’s okay . . .” I look to Everleigh to see she’d come with Ivy, Sutton, and Isabelle. She might’ve been on shift, considering she’s still in scrubs.

“I helped with the ultrasound,” Everleigh says, reaching into her pocket and pulling out a paper, handing it to me. “I printed this for you so you can see, but the heartbeat of your little one is going strong.”

“Thank you,” I murmur and look to the image while placing my hand on my stomach. Lifting my gaze back to them, I ask the question that comes to mind. “Angel stalked out of here pissed. Why?”

Ivy bites her bottom lip and shoves her hands in her back pockets.

“Where to start with that one . . .” She breathes out roughly and shakes her head.

“So, Juniper wasn’t to be at the clubhouse.

I don’t know what she was doing there or why no one saw her until she came from down that hall.

We’ve been trying to get in touch with her, but she’s nowhere to be found. ”

“At least not in the normal places we know to look for her,” Sutton snaps, huffing in frustration.

“But that doesn’t answer my question.” Angel leaving the way he did doesn’t make sense.

“The accident wasn’t just an accident. It was intentional,” Isabelle whispers. “Angel went to meet up with Hellhound and the rest of the brothers.”

My heart skips a beat at the news, and I immediately reach for the nurse call button. There’s no way in hell I’m staying here. Not without Angel. I want out of here, and I want out of here now.
