Chapter 15
Chapter Fifteen
Scythe
After hours of waiting, Stella finally comes out to give us an update. In the time it’s taken since giving her the box of chocolates, I’ve all but driven myself insane. For one, I hate hospitals with a passion.
I’d been just a kid, Styxx and me both, we’d go with our dad to work. It wasn’t this hospital, but one over in the next county. He was a damn good doctor who specialized in blood diseases and that sort of thing.
I try not to think about him and what he used to do.
Mainly because when I do, I get pissed because if he wasn’t so damn good at what he did, then he wouldn’t have been killed, and neither would my mother.
I wouldn’t have lost years with my sister.
Styxx and I would have grown up with our family and not in our aunt and uncle’s home.
My aunt and uncle didn’t treat us badly. In fact, they raised us as their own alongside their son, Finnegan.
Shoving thoughts of the past away, I focus on Stella and stand along with Jamie. James had taken Samantha to get coffee and would be back soon.
“How is she?”
The question feels like razors in my throat, and I clear my throat, hoping that helps.
“Jos is going to be okay. Thanks to you having that box of chocolates, we were able to identify exactly what she’d been given.” Stella shoves her hands in the pockets of her white coat and lets out a heavy breath.
“What was it?” Jamie asks tersely.
Angel moves in next to his woman and puts an arm around her.
“The chocolate was laced with a combination of drugs similar to what they use in meth, but not quite the same. From what the lab specialist says, they have never seen anything like it. Usually, they have the typical opioids and whatnot. This was different.”
“It was a combo of four different drugs, wasn’t it?” Jamie asks softly, glancing around.
Stella sighs and nods. “Yes, you’ve heard of it?”
“Yeah, it’s a new drug that’s been circulating lately. It’s expensive as hell. They call it Blue Ice. It’s supposed to be given in minimal amounts for the proper effect that’s wanted.”
“Jos ate several of those chocolates, and all of them were laced,” Stella remarks, nodding again. “Explains the overdose.”
“So, what now?” I demand, wanting to know if she’s going to be okay.
“They’re getting ready to move her to a room.
She hit her head on the road, and it had to be pretty hard.
There’s some swelling in her brain, and we’ll be observing her overnight,” Stella answers and takes a breath before giving me the room number.
“I have to get back there and deal with Dr. Whitman’s bad attitude. ”
“Is he the one who pissed me off?”
Stella gives me the stink eye and shakes her head. “He’s really not a bad doctor. But his sister died of an overdose about a month ago, so you can understand his not liking the fact another woman came in nearly overdosing.”
“Still doesn’t give him the right to speak to us the way he did,” Jamie huffs, curling his lip.
“True, but remember you guys aren’t the normal type. He probably felt he needs to puff out his chest and act like a jerk to deal with you all.” Stella rolls her eyes and looks at Angel. “I’ll let you know when I finish my shift.”
I turn away from the two of them as my brother kisses his woman. My only thought right now is to get to where Josephine is and set my eyes on her. Make sure she’s going to be okay, myself.
“I’ll let my folks know she’s being transferred right now,” Jamie tells me quietly.
“Yeah,” I grunt and look to Styxx to find him staring daggers behind me. Slowly I twist to see what he’s looking so hard at and curse under my breath. “What are you doing here, Finnegan?”
“Heard what happened,” he mutters and looks at Jamie, “What’s the news on your sister?”
“Ask him.” Jamie jerks his chin in my direction. “I’m dealing with something else here.”
“Right, talking to the folks,” Finnegan mutters, rolls his eyes, and looks at me. “So, how is she?”
“She’ll be fine. Now, what are you doing here?” I demand, not wanting to play games right now.
“Here to talk to you all. Figured you all weren’t paying attention to your phones.”
Reaper having heard Finnegan steps forward, eyes dark and nostrils flaring. “Want to expand on that?”
“Cell service is shitty in here,” he explains. “Was at the pub having a beer and overheard your prospects come in for their shift talking to the bartender. She was freaking out because one of your staff took the trash out and never came back in. Told them I was coming here, and I’d tell y’all.”
“Who was it that took the trash out?” Beast demands, growling. From the looks of his expression, he looks ready to breathe fire.
“Said her name was Bristol.”
Oh fuck.
“Beast,” Styxx mutters, placing a hand on his shoulder.
“What the fuck?” Beast snarls.
I know the man has a thing for Bristol, the two of them are friends, and he’s never gone further with her. He claims with her working for the club, he’d never go there.
“Calm down, brother,” Reaper orders and looks to Finnegan. “I know you’ve already started lookin’ into it. So, start fuckin’ talking.”
“You’re right, I have.” Finnegan shrugs and looks at me. “The security cams need to be updated, but I got into them,” he says, pulling his phone out and turning it in my direction.
I take it from him and watch the footage.
A film of red slides into place over my eyes, and a rage like no other builds in my veins.
Lifting my head, I glance around the waiting room, finding who I’m looking for.
“TJ, come here,” I order. The kid hadn’t left yet, having said he wanted to make sure the ‘lady’ was okay.
TJ comes over and, without a word, looks at the phone screen.
“That the guy who attempted to take Jos?” I demand and wait for him to answer.
“Yeah,” he doesn’t waste time answering. “That’s the guy. Don’t have to see his face to know who he is.”
“Fuck.”
“I’m going to go find her,” Beast snarls, his voice sounding like that of the beast he was named to be. One thing about Beast is he has no problem tearing a man apart if he’s crossed.
“We’ll find her,” Reaper growls and looks at me. “I know you want to go be with Jos, but we need to find Bristol first.”
“I know,” I mutter. I don’t like the idea of leaving, but I can’t leave my brothers hanging.
“I’ll stay here,” Finnegan announces. “I need to talk to my second in command anyway.”
I cock a brow at the news and shake my head. “Right.” Grunting, I head for the doors.
I have my tablet in the saddlebag. As long as it has a signal, I’ll be able to access information on my computer.
All of my programs interlock, and I should be able to find out if Bristol has her phone on her.
If she does, I’ll be able to track it, and I hope like hell she has it on her.
If not, I’ll have to look at the camera feed that Finnegan didn’t get into.
The fucker thinks he’s a smart-ass saying we need to update the cams, but those are just decoys. I have others that will show everything I need to see, as long as the asshole who took her parked where the cameras can see him.
Pulling up the information for Bristol, I ping her phone and let out a heavy breath. If by the location of where her phone is, then she has it with her. Regardless, it’s definitely not at Keeper’s Pub.
“GPS on her phone is showing she’s at Dogwood Park,” I announce to those standing around me.
“Let’s go,” Reaper commands. “This fucker, when we get our hands on him, is going to die a slow, miserable death.”
Ain’t that the fucking truth. Whoever this is fucking trying to take my woman and who took Bristol needs to be taken apart limb by limb.
Dogwood Park is mostly a wooded area filled with hiking trails, picnic areas, and a large area of green the size of a football field. If we weren’t following the coordinates of Bristol’s phone, it would be like finding a needle in a haystack.
We park not far from where the GPS says her phone is and go on foot. My stomach tightens, and I don’t have a good feeling about this. Not in the least bit.
Heading deeper into a wooded area, eyes to the ground, I notice where the grounds have been disturbed. “This way,” I mutter and jerk my chin in the direction the disturbance continues.
We walk about three yards farther before I notice a form on the ground that doesn’t fit in with the rest, and in my gut, I fucking know it’s Bristol.
Moving at a faster pace, my brothers with me, we run the rest of the way, getting to her only to come to a dead stop at the sight in front of us.
“Oh fuck,” Styxx snarls.
Thanatos moves in quickly, with Beast dropping down to the opposite side.
“I’m going to need my kit out of my saddlebags,” Thanatos states, keeping his eyes on Bristol, examining her. He’s not just the Chaplain for the club but also a medic.
“I’ll get it,” Tombstone yells, already turning to head in the direction of the bikes.
Beast tears his cut off and strips his shirt off in order to gently put it on Bristol’s naked body, but he can’t put it on her completely. Not without hurting her. None of us can move her yet.
The good thing is we’ve at least found her . . . alive, but she’d been raped, cut up, and a blade was jammed through the palm of her hand and into the earth under her.
The person who did this, I have a feeling, did this because he couldn’t get to Josephine, and the thought of him doing this to my woman enrages me.
I’ll find the son of a bitch, and when I do, he’ll pay.
In blood and with his life. I intend to make sure he knows before he takes his last breath, he knows better than to fuck with those in the Satan’s Keepers MC and those who we call our own.
