Chapter 20
Chapter Twenty
Scythe
“We’ve got everything under control on our end,” Reaper states, speaking directly to Dusan. “The shipment of cars will be ready to go at the end of the month.”
“I had no doubt it wouldn’t be.” Dusan nods.
Standing off to the side, I try to stay focused on the meet, but my mind keeps drifting off to thoughts of my woman.
It’s been a few days since I took her to the cabin, and things have been less tense with her.
She even confided in me that she’s starting to get bits and pieces of her memory back.
This is good. Damn good, but it also means I’m going to have to tell her about the bullshit that happened while she was on the phone with me.
Josephine deserves the truth and I’ll give it to her, but I’ve got to know she trusts me.
“Have you heard anything else about the other problems you all have?” Dusan asks, gaining my full attention.
Reaper looks to me, then back to Dusan. “It’s been quiet for now,” he answers.
Dusan grimaces. “I figured as much. My people have not been able to find a trace of them either. From what I gather, they’ve gone to ground.”
I get his reasons for looking into the Scarlet Needles, another organization similar had taken his sister for her genetics. The whole medical black market bullshit pisses me off, and I don’t blame him for wanting in on the action.
“If they’ve gone to ground, that can’t be good. They’re planning something,” Angel grumbles, letting out a harsh breath.
“With those we know are connected to the whole operation, they could be up to anything,” Daemon remarks, grinding his teeth together.
“I agree,” Dusan says, shoving his hands in the front pockets of his slacks.
“For now, all we can do is be on guard.” Reaper lets out a heavy frustrated breath and shakes his head. “We’ve got enough to deal with right now as it is.”
I eye him and grunt. “I’ll find the fucker.”
“I’d heard something about one of your girls from the Pub being raped,” Dusan remarks.
“Bastard’s gonna die painfully when I get my hands on him,” Beast snarls.
“Patience, brother,” Reaper states sternly.
Since the attack on Bristol, she was released from the hospital, and she has been staying at Reaper and Ivy’s place.
Ivy and the girls wanted her here with them, but Bristol refused though she agreed to stay at Prez’s place at his insistence.
This wasn’t an issue since the kids were getting older.
They’d been staying at the house more than at the clubhouse.
However, Reaper put a trail in that runs straight from his place to the clubhouse through the woods.
He wanted a straight shot keeping his woman close when she wasn’t near him and was at the house.
The rest of the meeting goes quickly, and Dusan heads out, leaving us to do whatever else the man does.
Dusan is one of the most respected shady men I know.
He’s a billionaire who makes money not only in real estate but also in the car market.
By this, I mean selling the cars that are boosted and revamped.
I don’t know how he keeps his name out of it, but regardless, the man is in the papers more often than not with some heiress or another.
“Has Josephine remembered anything from what happened? Who tried to take her?” Reaper asks calmly, giving me that assessing look of his.
“She’s starting to remember bits and pieces,” I answer honestly. “Nothing about what happened, just things here and there.”
“Like what?” Styxx smirks.
“Fucker, nothing you need to worry about.” I slap him upside the head, making him laugh.
“Ahh, so I’m right. She’s remembering the way you make her scream.”
“Shut the fuck up,” I grumble and look to Reaper.
“From everything I’ve found while looking into the bastard, we know he’s white and built.
He didn’t show his face for the cameras to pick up his features, but I do have a facial recognition program running non-stop, trying to identify him.
The plates were faulty, so no help there. ”
“Bristol’s, not talking about it.” Reaper leans back in his chair and taps his knuckles on the table. “Ivy got her to start once, but then she shut down. She said he wanted to teach her a lesson about surrounding herself in darkness and letting her light diminish.”
“What the fuck?” Beast snarls, slamming a fist on the table.
“That’s all I know about the situation,” Reaper grinds out, eyes narrowed on Beast. “You’re gonna have to keep your cool, brother. Rein that shit in for the time being.”
“Think it could be someone from Everleigh’s past?” Hellhound asks, glancing at Daemon.
“Don’t think so,” Daemon mutters.
“We need Jos to get her memories back,” Thanatos speaks up. “She could have recognized the guy who tried to take her.”
The rest of my brothers put their opinions in on the situation, and it makes me nuts that I can’t do anything about her memories and getting them back quicker than what they are.
. . Oh fuck. . . An idea pops into my head, and as bad as it sounds, it might actually work in getting her memories back.
It also might fuck shit up if not done right.
Looking around the table, I tell them my plan, and from the grim looks, they agree, but it’s a good chance it might work.
It shouldn’t take long for everything to be put in place.
All I need to do is have a conversation with my brother where the right people will overhear me, and then everything will be set in motion.
I have to hope that in the end, Josephine understands why I did what I did.
For her, I’d do anything, including this.
“I don’t like it, but if you think it’ll work, then so be it. We’ll deal with the shitstorm afterward,” Reaper grunts. “Also, I’m lifting the lockdown on the ol’ ladies but only under the circumstances they have someone on them when they’re not with any of us or here at the clubhouse.”
I nod in agreement. There’s no way I’ll be letting her far from me, so this won’t be a problem. When plans are put in place, I’ll ensure a prospect is on her as a precaution.
Leaving church, I think about the time at the cabin with Josephine.
Not just about the sex we’d had there but how I’d opened up to her.
Never in my life did I think I’d ever do that.
Josephine means the world to me, and I’ll do whatever it takes to make sure she knows it.
I also think it’s time I visited my aunt and uncle.
There’s something they’ve been holding for me and Styxx since we were kids, and now I want it so that I can give it to my woman.
But it’ll have to wait. First, I gotta make sure Josephine stays safe.
Once the danger’s out of the way, I’ll get what I want from them and give it to the woman who holds my heart.
