Chapter 1

Chapter one

Ellery

My heart hammered in my chest as I paced around my room. My whole body was thrumming with excitement and a touch of nerves. My bestie and roommate, Tristan, recently met his Daddy, and I was happy for him, I truly was, but new changes always put me out of sorts.

Tristan and I had been best friends for over five years. We met in an online group for littles and were both looking for a roommate. I was excited to move in with a fellow little, but I never expected us to become best friends. At this point, we were basically siblings.

When we first moved in together, we both had crappy day jobs that were sucking the life out of us. Then, one fateful night, we were on the couch eating pizza, complaining about how much we hated our jobs, and that’s when our small business was born.

Tristan crocheted, and his work was amazing. He made the most adorable stuffed animals and blankets that felt like being surrounded by clouds.

I’d learned to sew in a home economics class in high school, and when my teacher noticed how much I loved it, they’d kept the class open after hours so I could use the school’s sewing machines.

Those rare quiet moments when it was just me, some fabric, and the low hum of my sewing machine brought me the peace I needed to get through to the next day.

Ever since I was little, I’d dreamed of learning how to make my own dresses, but let’s just say my parents weren’t the most supportive of what they considered such a “feminine” hobby.

As soon as I was old enough, I got a job and started saving, and the day after Tristan and I moved in together, I went and bought my first sewing machine. It was beautiful. In the first few weeks, I barely left my room except to go to work and eat.

Tristan had gotten worried that I was avoiding him, but when I showed him my machine and the dress I was making, he squealed with excitement and hugged me so hard I nearly died.

Looking down at my bag, I sighed. I was supposed to be leaving soon to spend the night with Tristan and his Daddy.

I was excited, but it had just been Tristan and me for years, and I was worried that this would change our friendship.

I mean, obviously it was going to change things, but what if he realized he didn’t need me anymore?

My parents and I hadn’t spoken since the day I moved out. Tristan was my best friend, but he was also the only family I had left. I loved him like a brother and hoped we’d always be close.

We both dreamed of the day we could regress together with our future daddies. This was just a step in that direction. Everything was going to go perfectly. It had to.

Once I had everything I needed stuffed in my duffel bag, I zipped it up and got dressed. I decided on some leggings and a flowy satin blouse. I loved the way the material felt against my skin. It was soft and felt like a warm hug.

Not even an hour later, I was standing in front of Daniel’s door waiting for him to answer. It was only a few seconds before the door was opened and Tristan was pulling me inside. I couldn’t help but laugh as he practically dragged me along.

Daniel scooped Tristan up and popped him on his hip to give me a moment to catch my breath. “I know you’re excited, little one, but Ellery just got here. Let’s give them a second to get settled, then we can show them around.”

Daniel’s voice was calm and full of affection as he helped Tristan calm down. I couldn’t blame him for his excitement, it was infectious, and I felt all my earlier worries melt away.

Tristan looked at me, his expression full of guilt. “Sowwie.” Oh no, I was not going to let my bestie apologize for being excited.

“Don’t be sorry, buddy. I’m super excited too. I just need a moment to get changed and my stuff put away.”

Tristan beamed at me and pointed over his Daddy’s shoulder down the hall. Before I could even ask what the gesture meant, Daniel spoke. “In case you need it, the bathroom is the first door on the left, and the one next to it is a guest room where you can change and set your bags.”

“Thank you.” I waved to Tristan before heading down the hall to the guest room. Setting my bag on the bed, I pulled out my favorite dress. It was a sparkling purple princess dress with a fluffy tulle skirt and gold embroidery. It was gorgeous and never failed to help me slip into little space.

Once I was fully dressed, I grabbed my tiara and placed it on my head, making sure it didn’t get tangled in my curls. Opening the door to the guest room, I made my way down the hall, loving the way my dress swished and swayed as I moved.

Daniel and Tristan weren’t in the living room. Soft giggling filtered in from the kitchen, and I followed the adorable sound. “Ewwie, Ewwie, Dada made us choccy milk. I helped.”

I couldn’t help but smile. My bestie knew me so well. “Chocolate milk is the best!”

Daniel grabbed our cups and hoisted Tristan into his arms before leading us into the living room. Daniel handed me my chocolate milk, then sat on the couch and motioned for me to join them.

My tulle skirt was puffy, so I smoothed it down carefully as I sat down to make sure I didn’t get tangled up in the fabric.

Taking a small sip of my chocolate milk, I nearly moaned at the yummy goodness. I had no doubt Tristan helped pour in the chocolate syrup because it was extra chocolatey, just how we liked it. Tristan was taking big gulps of his milk, but I was perfectly fine taking small sips, savoring the flavor.

Daniel took advantage of the silence and spoke with a cool, controlled calm.

The rumbling sound seeped into me, making me even more excited to play with my friend.

“Before we get to the fun parts, I just wanted you to know that while this isn’t really a scene, both of you can use the stoplight system at any time if needed, so we can stop and talk about what happened.

My goal is for both of you to have some much-needed fun together and to help in any way you need.

For that to work, I need both of you to promise to communicate if you need anything or are uncomfortable. ”

Any lingering anxiety I might have had disappeared with his kind and thoughtful words.

“Thank you for saying that. It takes me a while to warm up to new people, especially in little space. In the short time I’ve known you, you’ve made my best friend incredibly happy and have gone above and beyond to assure me I’m welcome and safe with you.

I promise I’ll let you know. You’re a really good Daddy, and I’m so happy Tristan has you. ”

Daniel’s eyes sparkled with appreciation. “Thank you, Ellery, that means a lot. I want you little ones to relax and have fun.”

His words warmed my heart. He was truly a great guy. I was thrilled for my best friend, but I couldn’t help the pang of longing that shot through my chest. I sighed and let out a chuckle. “You wouldn’t by any chance have any hot friends your age who are also Daddies and like princess play?”

Tristan and I both giggled as Daniel seemed to be pondering my question. I meant it mainly as a joke, but it warmed my heart that he seemed to be taking it seriously. “I’ve met a lot of fellow Daddies over the years. I’ll have to think about it.”

Hope bubbled in my chest, but I pushed it down, not wanting to get excited in case nothing ever came of it.

Sadness and longing settled somewhere deep within me, threatening to pull me under.

Thankfully, Tristan was oblivious as he looked at his Daddy with the biggest puppy-dog eyes I’ve ever seen.

“Dada, can we pwease go show Ewwie my room?”

His voice was quiet yet full of excitement and joy, and I felt the sadness lift as I grew excited to see his special room.

“Yes, little one. We can go show Ellery your room.”

Warmth filled me. I may not have known him for very long, but so far Daniel had been open and kind, and I wanted to give him the same. “You can call me Ellie if you’d like. All my friends call me Ellie, especially when I’m little.”

Daniel beamed, letting me know I made the right choice. “Well then, come on, boys, let’s go show Ellie the hoard.”

“Yay dragon hoard!” Tristan squealed and cheered as Daniel carried him and led us down the hall. When we approached the last door at the end of the hall, Daniel slowed down as he led us inside.

“I don’t have many people over, but this room is very special to me, so I decided to have the only entry point be through my room.”

Tristan poked his head over Daniel’s shoulder, his eyes gleaming with excitement.

“It’s so cool, it’s like a secret cave.” We both giggled as Daniel shifted Tristan onto his hip so he could open the twin doors to the playroom.

When the doors opened, I gasped, my jaw going slack with shock.

“Oh my gosh, bestie! This room is amazing . . . Daniel, you did this?”

Daniel’s chest puffed up with pride as he led us deeper into the room. “I made most of the furniture and a few toys . . . Pretty much everything except the mural was something I made or purchased. My best friend David painted the mural. He’s very talented.”

I spun around the room, my eyes bouncing from one object to another.

When my gaze landed on the painting on the wall, I froze.

My body moved slowly as if on its own. I had to get closer.

The mural was absolutely breathtaking. The colors blended seamlessly, and the dragon flying through the sky nearly jumped off the wall. I was captivated by its beauty.

My voice was soft, almost reverent. “This is gorgeous. I’ve never seen anything so beautiful.”

Daniel smiled, chuckling fondly. “David’s a great guy and an even better artist. I’d offer to pass along the compliments, but he’s like a brother to me, so I’m sure you’ll meet him sooner or later. You can tell him yourself. He’d love to hear it.”

The soft yet vibrant colors mesmerized me. They spoke of passion and hidden beauty. I suddenly couldn’t wait to have the chance to meet the man who brought this painting to life. It called to me in a way nothing ever had—except my pretty dresses, of course.

Shaking my head, I pulled myself from the painting’s hold and turned toward Daniel and Tristan. “I would love to meet him and tell him how beautiful his art is.”

“Wook!” Tristan shouted and pointed to a bookshelf with blocks stacked on it. “He painted dos too.”

Excitement and curiosity were bursting from me as I practically bounced toward the shelf. My jaw dropped in awe as I picked up one of the blocks.

Each block had a painted dragon. Each creature had its own theme and cute facial expressions. They were adorable. Every block of wood was like its own art piece, damn near sparkling with joy and creativity. “Whoa, these are so cute. You hit the Daddy jackpot, bestie.”

Holding back a sigh, I placed the block back on the shelf with the others. “Okay, little ones, would you like to play a game?” Both Tristan and I squealed at the mention of a game.

“Yes, please!”

Tristan and I jumped in excitement as Daniel grabbed a wooden dragon egg and a blindfold.

“One of you will be blindfolded, and the other one will be tasked with hiding this dragon egg somewhere in this room. Once you’re done hiding it, the blindfolded person walks around the room searching for the egg.

The other will help them find it by saying ‘cold’ when they’re far away or ‘warm’ if they get closer. ”

Excitement barreled through me, my little side surging toward the surface.

“Oh yes! I love this game.” Tristan nodded his head in agreement.

My bestie seemed to go into verbal shutdown when he regressed super deep.

It was new, but it didn’t bother me one bit.

As long as we were together, I didn’t care how my bestie chose to be little or communicate. I was so happy for him.

Daniel blindfolded me and asked me to spin around. I couldn’t help but giggle as I spun around and counted to ten. I was going to find the egg!

Tristan cheered me on, shouting one-word directions as I walked slowly around the room. When I finally found the egg, we both cheered.

Waiting patiently, I bounced excitedly on my toes as Daniel blindfolded Tristan so I could hide the egg. Once he was done, he leaned over and whispered in my ear. “I think Tristan is far too small right now. Can you please hide the egg low to the ground?”

My heart nearly melted at his consideration, and I felt even closer to him. Tristan was like a brother to me . . . my family. The more I saw Daniel’s love and care for Tristan, the closer I felt to him. I was thankful to have another wonderful person in my life.

I nodded and headed toward the bed. It was on the floor, and the surrounding bars would make it a little harder to find, but hopefully, being low to the floor would offset the difficulty. At least this way, he couldn’t accidentally trip over it.

When I was done, I looked up to find Daniel smiling at me. Gratitude and affection shone through his eyes with such intensity. We were going to get along just fine. Our love for Tristan alone was bringing us closer together than I thought possible.

Tristan was so precious as he crawled around the floor to find the egg. When he got close to the railing, Daniel called out to let him know to approach with caution. I, however, was so excited that he was close that I cheered. “You’re burning up, bestie.”

Tristan’s hands shot out as he cautiously felt the wooden bars. His shoulders relaxed when he realized where he was, and he crawled over the railing and plopped right onto the egg with a sharp yelp. I couldn’t help but giggle as he felt around for it.

Tristan cheered in triumph when he pulled the egg out from underneath him.

“I did it! I did it!” His joy was contagious, and it bubbled up inside me, and before I knew it, I was throwing myself on top of him.

“You did it, bestie! You looked so cute crawling around in your onesie. I have the most precious bestie ever.”

I threw my arms around him and buried my face in the crook of his neck. My voice was soft as I held back unshed tears. “I love you, bestie. Thanks for inviting me. I missed you.”

Tristan wrapped his arms around me, and we both started to sniffle, our cheeks becoming wet with tears. We were both emotional messes, and I loved that this moment meant as much to him as it did to me. “I missed you too . . . I promise we’ll hang out lots.”

We stayed that way for a few minutes, just soaking up each other’s touch. Perfectly content just being together.

I had it all. A successful small business and a best friend I loved like family . . . now, if only I could find my forever Daddy.
