50. Enzo #2
I smiled as the clerk rang up his stuff.
“Do you want a bag, Doctor Scott?”
“No, Krissy. I’m good. Thank you,” he said, grabbing the baby clothes.
I followed him out.
“Shit gave me PTSD,” he muttered.
“What do you mean?”
“The last time I bought baby stuff in a hospital gift shop, we lost Blossom.” He frowned, looking down at the clothes in his hands. “Remember? She just kept throwing up. I’d left her that night. It haunts me. Maybe if I’d have stayed…”
“That’s not going to happen this time,” I said gently. “Don’t think like that. There was nothing anyone could have done.”
“I’m fucking terrified, man. I’ll lose my mind if we lose these babies.”
“She carried Ellis all the way through. She can do it with the twins. Breathe. Relax. I promise everything will be OK. Wash the blood off your hands. You’re a mess.”
He grimaced but handed me the clothes before going into the men’s room. I waited for him to come back out, and when he did, his hands were clean, and he’d taken off his white dress shirt. He was completely bare on top.
“Uh, you need a shirt, brother,” I said, eyeing all the planes of hard muscle.
He grumbled but went back into the gift shop, returning a moment later with a bright pink shirt with a unicorn on it.
“Nice shirt,” I said as he came out holding it.
“Doctor Scott! Cole!” a nurse squealed, rushing over to us.
“Fuck, man,” he muttered. “Hide me.”
I looked at the woman in question. She was pretty with long dark hair and dark eyes. She gave me girl-next-door vibes, and someone Cole would absolutely destroy in more ways than one. His cock alone would split her in half if he decided to bend her over.
The fact that Rosalie could take his cock was a damn blessing. Or mine.
Fuck, I hope he didn’t lose his shit when he found out I’d been with Rosalie recently.
I was feeling terrible guilt over it, considering he thought it was cheating for me to touch him.
I needed to talk to Rosalie about telling Cole.
I promised her I’d not say anything, but I didn’t want to keep secrets from my brothers, especially since he’d exploded on Ryder.
“I thought you’d be too tired to come back so soon,” the nurse continued, batting her long lashes at him. “We’re all going out after this shift ends to Lucky’s Pub. You should come with!” Her dark eyes skirted over his bare chest.
He quickly tugged the pink unicorn shirt on.
“No,” Cole said. “My girlfriend was hurt. I’m not going anywhere, Josie. Thanks for the offer.”
She widened her eyes at him. “Girlfriend?”
I looked from her to him, slightly amused by the situation. He was always on my ass about women bothering me, but it looked like he had a little gnat of his own.
“Yeah. She fell tonight. We just found out we’re having twins, so… yeah. Not interested.”
She stared at him, a stricken look on her face. “You’re having… twins?”
He nodded. “Yeah.”
“With your girlfriend?”
“Yes. Why the fuck do I have to repeat myself?”
“Maybe because you’ve never said you have a girlfriend in the time you’ve been here?” She shook her head. “It’s messed up to lead someone on and then burst out with some lame excuse about having a girlfriend.”
“What the fuck?” Cole frowned at her. “Are you dipping into the drug supply here? I’m confused. I never led your ass on. If anything, I tried to get away from you.”
Her cheeks reddened at his words.
“I’m sorry if you thought there was something possible here—”
“Well, if you do have a girlfriend, I’ll find out who it is, and then I’ll tell her what you’ve been doing with me!”
Cole raised his brows. “What I’ve been doing? You mean trying to escape?” He scoffed. “Go ahead. Tell her. She’ll laugh in your face.”
She glared at Cole for a moment. “You’re such a jerk. Amy and Lindsay both said you were, but I didn’t believe them.”
Cole frowned. “What the fuck did I ever do to them? I got Lindsay a really nice fruit basket for Christmas. I was her secret Santa.”
“Grow up, Cole,” she snapped. “No one fucking wants a fruit basket for Christmas! Your gift-giving screamed red flags, and I ignored it!”
“Still doesn’t make me a jerk,” he muttered. “Proper nutrition is important.”
She shook her head at him, venom in her dark eyes, before looking at me.
“I know who you are.”
“Yeah?” I stared in amusement at her.
“You’re Lorenzo De Luca.”
“Congratulations,” I murmured. “You found a mafia don.”
She visibly swallowed as she continued to stare at me. I stepped into her space. She shook as I reached out and took her chin firmly into my hand.
“Listen, I don’t make threats unless I plan on carrying them out,” I murmured. “But if you cause problems for Cole and his girl, I will be forced to do some very bad things to you in places where no one can hear you scream. You don’t want me to do that, do you, Josie?”
She shook her head, fear in her eyes.
“Then I suggest you quietly walk away and never bother Cole again. If he tells me you bothered him, I’ll find where you live, and I’ll take you from your warm bed before I fuck you until you bleed. Then? I’ll put pretty new holes into your body to have fun with. Do you understand me?”
She stared at me, her fear nearly palpable.
“Speak!” I barked at her.
“Y-Yes. I understand.”
“Good girl,” I murmured. “Now run along to Lucky’s. I’ll be watching.”
She shot a longing look at Cole before scurrying away from us.
“Wow. Look at you, being my white knight,” Cole said. “Gosh. My hero!”
“Your shirt is stupid,” I muttered, eyeing the neon pink and sparkly cartoon unicorn.
He scoffed. “Bitch, it has glitter. You’re stupid.”
I shook my head and handed him the baby clothes. “Go see your girl, you jackass.”
He grinned at me, clearly already over Josie, and strode to the elevator.
I shook my head after him, a small smile on my face.
It didn’t matter the shit going on around him. He really was a crazy ray of sunshine on a cloudy day.
