Chapter 39

Mia

Christmas Eve

“I’m sorry!” I call out. “I’m coming!”

I feel bad, because I’ve made Killian wait tonight much longer than I meant to. I put the earring through my ear, securing the back, and then I hurry out of the bedroom and into the living room.

It takes me a moment to realize that Killian is kneeling by the Christmas tree, and when I finally see him, I freeze.

It doesn’t even click; not at first.

“Jesus, Kitten,” he says with a groan. “Do you have any idea how long I’ve been kneeling like this?”

I walk towards him, a look of shock on my face.

I somehow managed to lose the fake engagement ring that he put on my finger during the crash.

I felt bad that it was gone, but Killian told me that he wanted to get me a real ring, anyway.

That ring was fake, just like our marriage was going to be at the time.

Things are different now.

“Mia Cavallo,” he says, once I’m closer. “Will you do me the honor of making me the happiest man in the world and marry me?”

“Killian,” I manage to get out as my eyes fill with tears. I nod eagerly, a smile lighting up my whole face. “Yes!”

He grins at me as he slips the most gorgeous diamond I’ve ever seen on my finger, and when he stands up, he takes my face in his hands and kisses me deeply.

“Fuck, I love you,” he says, the grin never leaving his face. “And you’re going to be my wife.”

I giggle, nodding in agreement, a feeling of excitement coursing through me.

“We’re really engaged,” I say, admiring my ring.

Killian chuckles. “My girl.”

A feeling of warmth settles into my chest, and I can’t remember a time that I ever felt this light before.

Killian makes me feel so safe, so loved. I truly never knew before I met him that a person could feel like home, but that’s how I feel when I’m with him. He’s my person. My safety, my security, my everything.

I’ve never loved anyone like I love him, and I never will.

Killian Savage is it for me.

And even though our story started off rocky, and we had so many trials and tribulations we had to face along the way, I wouldn’t change any of it.

Every single hardship that we endured only brought us closer and made our relationship stronger.

I hope that the hardships for us are finally over, though. We deserve a break, to say the least.

But even if they’re not, I’m not worried. I know that with Killian by my side, the two of us can get through anything.

We’ll be fine, as long as we have each other.

“I love you, Kitten,” he says, as the two of us make our way to the door. We’re going to Asher’s tonight to celebrate Christmas Eve with everyone, and I cannot wait to tell Bianca that I’m engaged.

“I love you, too,” I reply, gazing at him.

We make our way to the car, hand in hand.

Tomorrow, we’ll go back to Rosebrook Falls to spend Christmas Day with Killian’s brothers.

And then once the holidays are over, we’re going to look for our own place in Briarwood together.

Killian wants to stay here and continue to work for the Kings’, and I don’t want to be too far from Bianca again, anyway.

I smile as Killian opens my car door for me, and I climb inside.

I never knew it was possible for me to even be this happy, honestly.

My path might have been dark, but at the end of the day, it led me straight to Killian.

And that in itself makes everything worth it.
