Epilogue
Ten months later
OFFICIAL TRANSCRIPT OF EPISODE ONE
Emma: Hello and welcome to the very first episode of our brand-new podcast, Operation: Marriage. I’m Emma Moskowitz, a licensed couples therapist and the author of the upcoming book, The Good-Enough Relationship , which will soon be available in bookstores near you.
Will: And I’m Will Stoll, an award-winning podcast producer and Emma’s husband.
Emma: You might know us from our previous podcast, Operation: Save My Date , which won Will some of those awards he just mentioned.
Will: After we wrapped that adventure up a few months ago, which included Emma and I getting married at city hall in a twist ending, we started talking about what we wanted to do next.
Emma: I suggested a series on bats, but Will said it was better to stick with what we know.
Will: Actually, I think I said that you didn’t know anything about bats other than that they look like tiny puppies with wings. Which isn’t exactly enough to carry an entire season.
Emma: Either way, we found ourselves, as newlyweds, gravitating toward a show about the inner workings of marriage in today’s society.
Will: Why do some marriages work while others—
Emma: Combust.
Will: And how can we make sure ours falls into the first camp?
Emma: Over the course of the next ten episodes, we will be interviewing married couples, divorcees, relationship experts and researchers to try to figure out what makes a marriage stick.
Will: And on top of all that Emma and I will be attending couples therapy together because Emma is a shill for her own industry.
Emma: I think what you meant to say is that couples therapy is a great resource for anyone who can afford it. And this feels like a good opportunity to shed some light on what actually goes on in sessions when it’s used as a preventive measure instead of as a Hail Mary.
Will: Sure. That too.
Emma: But before we dive in, we have to take a brief break for our sponsor, xxx.com. Why file your taxes alone when you can file them together? Get married before December 31st and save!
Rustling of papers.
Emma: Is that the actual ad copy? I can’t say that. It’s ridiculous.
