Chapter 11

“What did they do to you, my mate?”
Warm hands. I felt them. Soft. Gentle. Pressed against my face. My head turned ever so slightly into the touch. It felt so good. My breath came out strained.
“It’s okay. I’m here now. I won’t let them hurt you anymore.”
Slowly, I opened my eyes. A vision. An angel. I was dead. I had to be. The remnants of the pain still thrumming through my body. An angel was here to take me away. To save me. To stop it from hurting.
I couldn’t keep my eyes open for long, and they shut, still leaning against the soft skin. It felt too good. It warmed the icy pain. Almost made me forget.
“What did you do to him?”
Anger. For me. Sweet. Too sweet. It hurt differently.
“We broke him. Just like you needed.”
“Yeah, but this? There isn’t anything left of him!”
There was a scoff. “Then rebuild him, Ebony. Didn’t you plan on having that witch here?”
A sigh. “Still!”
“This is what you needed. Dylan relayed the orders. It’s done. Work with it or just kill him. We don’t care. The bond-breaking serum is close to completion. So, figure it out. I don’t care anymore.”
“Fine.”
Hands cupped my face, and I felt something softer. Lips? They pressed against mine. It felt so different. There was no pain from the touch. It was okay. It was okay. I could die now. I could die.
