Chapter 6
Rion
The process of making his own espresso in the comfort of his penthouse, on the expensive Italian machine Tobias had purchased several years back, provided a degree of security.
It was the sort of thing which could not be attained by wards or weapons, no matter how powerful.
The sounds and aromas emanating from the machine surrounded Rion like a favorite blanket.
So much so, he failed to notice Lori step into the kitchen.
“Hi,” she murmured softly.
Her feet made no sound as she crossed the floor. A barely audible sigh escaped his lips as her body spooned against his back, arms locking around his waist.
“I assumed you would be sleeping, little one,” he whispered.
“I waited up for you.”
Rion set the cup on the counter and turned to face Lori. He cupped her cheek and kissed her tenderly on the lips. “The night has been long and tedious.”
“I figured, since you’re making your own coffee at dawn, instead of going to bed. Not to mention whatever situation it was we caught a glimpse of at the club.”
“This is hardly the first time I have prepared my own coffee. I do it often.”
She snorted. “Only when you’re trying to hide from the world.”
He sighed again. She was right, as she almost always was.
His gaze hovered on the coffee cup briefly, before he redirected it back to the female in front of him.
The female, whose hand had begun stroking him.
With only a layer of fabric between her hand and bare skin, Rion’s arousal intensified.
His shaft ached, making it difficult to think straight.
The days since their return had been somewhat chaotic.
Pleasures of the flesh were long overdue.
“Perhaps I do not need the coffee...”
Her lips twisted into a smirk. “That’s more like it.”
Without a further word, he scooped her up in his arms and dematerialized, reappearing in the bedroom with barely a moment between.
“I rather like it when you do that…” she whispered in a sultry tone.
He grinned and lay her down on the bed. He slipped out of the jacket and draped it over a chair, before reaching for the buttons of the shirt.
By the time he’d finished, Lori was already on her feet again. She yanked off her top and peeled down her jeans. He stood there, shirt hanging open and lips quirked up on one side. Her eagerness was a huge turn-on.
Despite her small stature, Lori’s hourglass figure was in perfect proportion. Rion drank in her curves, making no secret of how he felt. It was so much more than lust, but in this singular moment, desire had blanketed all else.
Lori kissed him hungrily, unfastening his belt and trousers as she did so.
“Mmmm…” With both hands buried in her glorious tangerine and copper curls, he returned the kiss with a fierce passion, continuing with a trail of kisses down her neck to the collarbone.
His shaft twitched when she pulled down the underwear, throbbing with anticipation.
As she arose, she licked a trail up his inner thigh.
Tingles rocketed through his body. When she reached his pelvis, she took him in her mouth and allowed her tongue to dance around his length.
Rion promptly forgot everything that had been weighing on his mind.
He very nearly forgot which day of the week it was.
Just as his release began to approach, she stopped and drew back. Rion reached for her underwear, but she held up a finger in denial.
“Nuh uh. Sit down, Mr. Smiles,” she ordered, using the nickname she’d attributed him soon after they’d met. She placed a palm to his chest, as if to emphasize the point.
One brow arched in delight as he took a step backward and flung the jacket to the floor, before lowering himself into the chair.
“Oh my, how reckless…” She teased, knowing it wasn’t in his nature to toss clothing in any capacity.
“Hush now, and cease stalling.” His words were husky, but his eyes twinkled with mischief.
“A little anticipation never hurt anyone.” She tugged the underwear down at an excruciating snail-like pace, swinging her hips with each advancement.
Rion’s breath grew shallow as he fought the urge to intercept. The sassy side of Lori was one of his most favorite parts, but this level of unfulfilled arousal was enough to drive anyone insane.
“Do not tempt me,” he warned, eyes darkened with need.
“Someone is impatient tonight.”
She smirked, stepped out of the underwear and moved closer, still unfazed by his declarations. Slowly, she lowered herself onto his lap until they were almost touching, but not quite.
“Lori!” He hissed out the words and grabbed her hips with both hands.
Letting out a deep throaty chuckle, she allowed him to guide her swiftly into place. The sound evolved into a gasp as her wet center swallowed up his length. A soft moan followed as the game was abandoned.
His fingers remained pressed against her hips as she began to ride him, hands splayed across his shoulders for balance.
Their pace quickened, bodies rising and falling as one.
Heat raced through him, threatening to break free as he fought to delay release.
A sensation that straddled the line between pleasure and pain so succinctly, it felt as though his very sanity was in question.
It was as though the entire world had come to a standstill, except for this one moment in time. Him. Her. This act.
Sex with Lori had always been incredible, but it had never been this intense before. It was the first time they had been intimate since he’d returned from Hell. Now that he’d embraced his wrath, which powered his pyrokinetic abilities, this was a whole new ballgame.
In that moment, he had hold of three threads. His impending release, empathic abilities, and wrath. Rion knew that with the intensity of their love making, he could only hold onto one, with a mere split second to choose. He chose wrath.
No longer contained, his empathic abilities roared to life, projecting the full weight of his lust onto Lori, just seconds before his release arrived. So much pleasure at once was too much for her part-mortal form to hold, and she collapsed against him with a blissful sigh.
“Fuck,” he muttered. It wasn’t the first time he’d accidentally overwhelmed her, but that didn’t make it any better.
Carefully, he disentangled their bodies and carried her to the bed. He’d just finished pulling up the blankets and tucking them around her, when there was a knock at the door.
“Hey, it’s me.”
Will.
“One moment.” He dematerialized into the closet to fetch a robe and put it on. After sucking in a deep breath, he went to open the bedroom door.
“I appreciate your decorum, Angel. I am sorry, it was an accident. I shall endeavor to be more careful next time.”
The angel’s perplexed expression made no sense, until Kitty appeared in the hallway next to him.
“What’s going on? Is Lori okay?” She asked.
Will looked from Kitty to Rion, and then poked his head around the doorframe. Rion pressed both lips together and said nothing.
“She’s passed out again, isn’t she? You have got to stop doing that to her.” Will laughed quietly.
“Wait, what?” Kitty wrinkled her nose until suddenly the lightbulb moment occurred. “Ew, Rion!”
“Kitty’s her guardian now,” Will said. “Things got complicated while we were rescuing you from down below. Since then, we agreed it would be better if Tobias and his servants didn’t all have the same angel watching over them.”
“It makes sense,” Kitty shrugged, appearing relieved about the subject change.
“Then why are you here?” Rion asked of Will.
“Well, I’ve brought back a ton of books from the vault. I thought perhaps you might give me a hand to comb through them before we both call it a night.”
“Let me get dressed. I shall meet you both in the den.”
“Wait, how did I get roped into this?” Kitty protested.
“Trust me, the more eyes we have on this, the better.” Will gave her a pat on the shoulder and sauntered off.
Rion closed the bedroom door and pinched at the bridge of his nose.
“Is everything okay?” Lori’s sleepy voice sounded from the bed.
“Yes, nothing for you to worry about.” Rion began pulling his clothes back on. “Will just needs my help with some research. Go back to sleep, little one.”
He gave her a soft kiss on the lips and moved to leave.
“Oh, I see how it is…” She teased. “Rock my world and then abandon me.”
He turned back; lips parted in surprise.
“I’m kidding, love. Do you want me to help too?”
“No, you should get some sleep. I will join you when I can.”
“You’d better…” she warned with a yawn.
“I love you,” he said fondly.
“Love you too.”
