Chapter 40

Ileave the rink and head for the locker rooms. Before I can make it all the way there Liv catches me. She pulls me to one side of the hallway, letting the others pass.

“What’s up?” I ask her.

She looks a little nervous. She has her arms crossed like she’s cold. She’s gripping her biceps with both hands.

“Cold?” I ask, looking her over. She’s in leggings and a long sleeve.

“No, not really” She responds.

“I just wanted to say thanks.” She says rubbing the toe of her shoe on the carpet.

I look at her confused, brows pushed together. “For what?” I ask.

She looks up at me, her hazel eyes more green than gold today. “I heard what that guy said on the ice.” She looks away. “Everyone did.”

I place my hand on her shoulder. “There’s no need to thank me. Those guys had it coming from the moment they stepped in here. Plus, you’re one of us, and we protect our own.”

She looks to my hand and stares for awhile. Her eyes travel up my arm and to my face. We stare at each other for a moment. Then with a single blink she lifts herself onto her tip toes, places her hands on my arms and kisses me.

Holy fuck. What is happening?

I’m absolutely shocked at what’s happening.

She leans more into me and finally I snap back to reality.

I lean down and slide one hand around her waist and one behind her neck and pull her closer to me.

I kiss her deeply and she kisses me back.

We stay like that for what feels like forever, which I’m totally fine with.

After a moment she pulls away. She looks shocked with herself. She places her fingertips to her lips then looks at me one last time before rushing back into the rink area.

I watch her go but when I turn back to the hallway I see Silas leaning against the wall at the very end.

Shit.
