Chapter 40 Lincoln

Ihadn’t heard from Laynie since yesterday afternoon. I assumed she was busy with her family, but she usually called me at night. Liam set up a meeting this morning with some of the new guys, so I needed to instill some fear in them before we handed them our product. Now that Charlie wasn’t fucking killing my runners.

At 10 AM I saw Laynie calling me. Thank God. “Hey baby.”

“Is this Lincoln?” An older woman’s voice echoed through my phone.

Something was wrong. “What happened?”

“She’s g-gone. Again. Someone took her. I f-found her phone in the horse stall with J.C.’s phone.”

My world stopped spinning, everything stopped. “Did you see anything?”

“No. The girls said they were going on a sunset ride with the horses, but the horses were never taken out. Oh God, please find her. I can’t lose her again.”

“I’m going to find them. I promise.”

I hung up the phone and dialed Don. No answer. I called 4 times. Nothing.

I turned the SUV around and started driving towards his house. Those fucking bastards drove all the way to Tennessee and took Laynie from her childhood home. The rage in my chest was uncontainable. I was sure they would drive them back to Manhattan. I had to find them before they disappeared outside the city.

I saw his car outside the house, so I knew he was home. I banged on the door for 10 minutes before the fucker finally opened it.

“What the fuck?” he said when he pushed the door open.

“They took them.”

“Who took who?” He rubbed his eyes, trying to wake himself up. He was still in his pajamas.

“Alayna and J.C. they were in Tennessee with Alayna’s family and they fucking drove there and took them.” I was trying to contain my rage.

“J.C.?”

“Yes, J.C. was with Alayna and they are both gone. Their phones are not with them.”

He stood there for a moment, his jaw clenching as he stared forward. This was personal to him now because his daughter was involved. “I’ll get them back.”

“I’m coming with you.”

“No, you aren’t, but you can help check a few locations and I’ll check the others.”

“Why are we doing this? Just call Alek and fucking find out where they are.”

“Alek has been ignoring my calls since I told him to leave Alayna alone. I had been meaning to deal with him but hadn’t gotten around to it.”

“Give me the addresses then,” I said.

I left when the first address came through. These places were warehouses.

The first warehouse was empty and had a deadbolt lock on the side door. I had to get some bolt cutters and come back. When I could finally enter, there was nothing there. No sign of anyone or anything.

The second warehouse was the same, and I wondered if he had lied to me. Why is he sending me to empty fucking warehouses? I tried calling his phone, but of course no answer.
