11. Zack
CHAPTER ELEVEN
zack
The sounds of Evvy’s gentle breaths fill the room as she sleeps soundly.
She made it about an hour into the movie before passing out.
She used to do this a lot during our movie marathons, and I’d always tease her for not remembering the end of any movie.
She’d never admit it, but I have a feeling she didn’t sleep last night.
Lucky or unlucky for me, I’m currently undecided on that front, she’s slumped over sideways with her head in my lap.
I’ve been sitting here for the past two hours unable to stretch, but there’s no way in hell I’m going to move her.
She looks so fucking peaceful and at ease that I don’t want to take that away from her.
My phone's been blowing up, but I’ve been ignoring it.
I’m too preoccupied with the Evvy situation.
I haven’t been able to take my eyes off of her, worried this might be the last opportunity to be this close to her.
After thirteen years, it feels so good to have her this close.
But if this is the last time this happens, I want to remember every single second of it.
So I take a mental snapshot to file away for later.
Evvy nuzzles her head further into my lap, and the urge to caress her face is so strong that my fingers twitch. When my phone buzzes again, with messages coming in at a faster clip, I decide to take a look. My fingers need a distraction before I let them do something stupid.
Marsh: Where the fuck are you, Shayle? Too good for training camp, bud?
Brent: Coach said he needed “personal time” for something important.
Rookie: More important than hockey? For shame!
Marsh: Who the hell added the rookie to the chat?
Rookie: Bax! Really not hard to remember.
Marsh has removed Rookie from the chat
Brent: Really, Marsh?
Brent has added Rookie to the chat
Rookie: WTF Everett!
Marsh: Call me that one more time, rookie…
Rookie: Everett…
Marsh has removed Rookie from the chat
Brent has added Rookie to the chat.
Marsh: WTF Brent
Brent: He lives above my garage now. Leave him alone.
Rookie: Yeah, what he said.
Marsh: Couldn’t get your own place?
Nate: Does this have something to do with OGETTTM or OGETTTY? Does the last letter change depending on who says it? Like, should it be me or you?
Rookie: What?
Marsh: What he said.
Rookie: Oh, now you’re playing nice?
Marsh has removed Rookie from the chat
Brent has added Rookie to the chat
Rookie:
Nate: Secret mission.
Brent: Did he choose to accept it?
Rookie: I don’t get it.
Brent: Movie reference. I guess you’re too young. Man, I feel old.
Marsh: Is this about the geologist?
Me: Thanks a lot Nate.
Nate: They figured it out on their own.
Me: You didn’t need to tell them about Operation Get Evvy To Talk To Me.
Nate: I didn't. You just did.
Marsh: I’m dead.
Me: No comment.
Marsh: I expected more from you. This is just…wow.
Brent: Leave the man alone he’s clearly pining.
Rookie: I think you mean yearning.
Marsh: Same difference…either way…yuck!
Rookie: Wow, Marsh you’re going to make some woman really happy someday…not.
Marsh: Not gonna happen.
Nate: Wait…Holy shit! It worked??? I need to come see this.
Me: No comment.
Nate: Be right over!
Rookie: Me too!
Me: No one comes within 100 feet of my house for the next few days. NO ONE. I’ll explain later.
Marsh: Need condoms?
Me: That’s not what’s happening, Marsh.
Marsh: Sure…
I should kick Nate’s ass for the amount of chirping I’m going to endure for the rest of the season…a season that hasn’t even started yet.
Evvy stirs in my lap. The corner of her eyes crinkle as she squeezes them tighter, arching her back as she wiggles and stretches. She’s like a cute cat waking up from a long nap.
Evvy’s hand lands straight on my cock as she stretches again. Her eyes fly open then dance around the room before she looks up at me. “Oh, my. What the…” She leaps out of my lap and crab crawls backward to the corner of the couch.
“Am I that terrifying?” I ask as my whole body vibrates with laughter.
“No, but that is.” She points at the bulge between my legs. My sweatpants are doing nothing to hide the effect Evvy has on me. “That is not a pillow!” she shrieks. “I forgot how big… That…that should come with a warning sign!”
“Is that a compliment?” I can’t hold back my grin. I also don’t miss the fact that Evvy’s eyes are still locked on my lap. Her pupils are blown and she’s tugging her bottom lip between her teeth.
“Friends, Zack! Friends!” She tears her eyes away from my crotch and holds her head in her hands.
“I can’t help it. You were moving a lot and then you grabbed me…” I laugh, and shrug. “Sorry.”
“What happened to the seat selection process? What happened to me throwing off too much heat?” She throws her hands up before slapping them over her face again.
“You fell on me, not the other way around.”
“Ugh!” Her head sinks further into her hands.
I’m trying so hard to contain my laughter, because the last thing I need is to give her an excuse to distance herself from me again.
“You know what? I heard about this magic pizza…Supposedly, when you eat it, your memory is completely wiped away. So, I say we order some. Then you’ll forget this ever happened.
” I stand and turn to face her. “Still like mushroom?”
“Yeah.” Evvy moves her hand down slightly, peering at me between two fingers that are still plastered to her face. “And extra cheese.”
That’s my girl.
