18. Evvy
CHAPTER EIGHTEEN
evvy
Zack falls back onto the couch, and I’m right there with him. My thighs straddle his lap, and we’re still tethered at the lips—unwilling to break our kiss. I’m kissing Zack. Zack’s kissing me. Either way, it feels right, but I’m almost afraid I'm imagining this.
My lips tingle as I swallow Zack’s laughter. “And you thought I didn’t know how to sit down on a couch.” I feel his smile pressed to my lips, and I can’t help but join him.
“You’re—” He interrupts me with a soft peck to my lips. “Making—” Another peck. “It—” Zack bites my bottom lip, giving it a little tug. “Weird—” He glides his tongue over the bite, easing the sting. “Again.” Laughter bubbles out of me as I press my forehead to his.
“But you like it.” He pulls back his head slightly, just enough to look in my eyes. Running his hand down my cheek, he gazes at me like I’m the only thing on this planet. Or, just like me, he’s afraid to blink in case this is a figment of his imagination.
“I need to know this is real.” I cup his cheek, feeling his stubble graze my palm. It grounds me after so easily getting lost in the moment.
“This is real. This is so fucking real.” Zack covers my hand, pressing my palm tighter against his cheek for a brief moment before moving my hand to his chest. “Feel this?” His heartbeat thuds against his ribs, feeling like it’s trying to break free and leap into the palm of my hand.
“You and me, Evvy? It doesn’t get any more real than this. ”
Zack’s eyes darken as they linger on mine. He leans forward, his lips so close to my neck I feel him inhale a deep breath, as though he’s savoring me. The ache grows between my legs as he blows out his breath against my skin, sending a wave of tingles down my spine.
“I need to feel something, Zack.” I allow myself to sink further into his lap, resting against his hard length. Moving my hands to his shoulders, Zack groans as I adjust in his lap.
“Use me, sweetheart.” He looks up, pressing a kiss to the corner of my mouth.
“Take whatever you need. You’re in charge this time.
” He runs both palms down my arms, landing on my hips.
He presses me down a little further, and I feel his cock twitch against me.
“Feel what your pussy does to me, sweetheart? Are you wet for me? Let me see you soak through these leggings.” Zack pulls at the fabric of my leggings and lets it go with a snap.
Oh my god. Zack’s mouth was always my kryptonite, and the feel of my nipples hardening against my bra tells me nothing has changed.
Using his shoulders to steady myself, I grind against him.
This small movement alone sends a flood of heat to my core.
Zack tilts his hips up into me, and the angle adds some much-needed friction against my clit.
A moan escapes from my lips as Zack trails wet kisses along my jaw.
“That’s it, sweetheart. Ride me.” He licks a line across my jaw and down the side of my neck, only stopping to press an open-mouthed kiss to my pulse point, driving me wild.
My hips move faster, needing to feel more, needing to feel him.
Even through his sweatpants, I can feel him growing harder beneath me, and it gives me a little boost of confidence knowing I’m responsible for that.
“Touch me, Zack. Please.” My breathing becomes ragged as I grind harder against him.
“Fuck, Evvy,” Zack groans as I press into him. One hand slides beneath my shirt and he drags his rough fingertips up my back.
“Yes! I’m so close.” Zack’s lips collide with mine, opening my mouth with his.
Our tongues meet, and I feel his hot ragged breaths mix with my own.
He tilts his hips up one more time just as his finger traces the underside of my breast, sending me toppling over the edge.
“Zack!” I moan. I feel wobbly as a wave of pleasure washes over me.
I want to keep going, but I’m unsteady. Zack takes over, grinding up into me.
He glides his cock over the seam of my leggings, letting me ride out my orgasm.
Just as my toes uncurl, and I collapse forward, he lets out a deep moan, chasing his own release.
Watching him completely succumb to the pleasure is such an intimate moment.
The corner of his eyes crinkle as he squeezes them shut, throwing his head back as he blows out a deep breath.
Zack’s lips curl into a grin as he comes back down.
“Fucking incredible,” he whispers, placing both hands on my face as he pulls me in for another quick kiss.
I pull back, lifting him off of him slightly. It’s just enough to see where the wetness is soaking through his sweatpants, creating a dark gray stain. Zack drags a hand down his face, hiding a grin. “I don’t think that’s ever happened to me before.”
“Sorry, I don’t know what got into me.” I begin to climb off his lap but he tightens his grip on my hips.
“You don’t have anything to apologize for.
That was so fucking hot. I’d do it a thousand more times if it means I get to see your beautiful face when you come, sweetheart.
” Zack presses a soft kiss to my chest, just above the neckline of my shirt, giving me the chills.
“And you taking charge, saying exactly what you want? Fuck, Evvy, it was incredible.”
My head falls to my chest, feeling a bit exposed.
Zack hooks a finger under my chin until his brown eyes meet mine.
“Don’t disappear on me now, Evvy. It was perfect.
” He brushes a stray hair away from my face before pressing a gentle kiss to my lips.
“I don’t want to move, but I really need to get cleaned up before my mom comes home.
” Zack laughs, shaking his head as he lifts me off his lap.
“I just realized how ridiculous that sounds. I’m thirty-five years old, and I just came in my pants in my mother’s living room. ”
“Not a common occurrence?” I tease.
“Never.” Zack stands and studies my face for a moment. “Hey, are you okay?” He runs his hand up and down my arm.
“I’m good, Zack. I promise. That was great. It really was. I’m just a little confused about…everything.” His brows draw together and he opens his mouth to speak, but the front door flies open before he has a chance to get the words out.
“I’m home and ready for some pie. Evvy, I hope you’ll tell me the truth about whether or not it’s edible. I love my son, but baking isn’t one of his talents.” Pam looks over at where we’re standing, offering an awkward smile. “You know what? I should inspect it myself.”
“I’ll go help her,” I say. “It’ll buy you some time to clean up.”
Zack reaches for my wrist, running his thumb over my tattoo before releasing me.

“Well, Mom, this has been fun, but I have an early flight.” He looks at me with a soft smile.
“My mom set up a room for you down here, Evvy.” As tempting as it is to climb into bed with Zack, I’m not sure it’s such a great idea, especially at his mom’s house.
And we’re overdue for a conversation before things go any further, so I’m grateful he’s giving me some space tonight.
“So, it’s officially girls night now.” Pam grins at me. “See you later, Son! I’m keeping Evvy to myself.” Zack shakes his head. “Good night, Mom, and Evvy? I’m sorry in advance for whatever she gets up to tonight.”
I can’t help but laugh because Zack’s mom is a hoot. Zack steps behind me, placing a hand on each of my shoulders. I tilt my head back to get a look at him. “Good night, Zack.” I laugh at the awkward angle of this conversation. He leans down, brushing his lips softly over my forehead.
“Good night, Evvy,” he whispers, sending a shiver down my spine at the unexpected affection. He gives my shoulders a squeeze and retreats upstairs.
When I tilt my head back upright, Zack’s mom is staring at me with her mouth hanging open and hand clutching her chest. “Does this mean…?” She’s practically bouncing in her seat, and I hate to disappoint her, but even I don’t know what this means.
“Oh, we…I…I don’t know what…” I point between myself and where Zack disappeared upstairs. “We’re not…”
Zack’s mom laughs and covers my hand with hers. “But you like him?” She gives my hand a little squeeze while she offers me a comforting smile. “I know I’m his mother and it’s awkward, but I care about you too, honey.”
“I do like him. I never stopped liking him. It’s just complicated.” I shrug because it’s true. There is nothing more complicated than the history between us. How can I trust being vulnerable with him again when I remember that he chose to walk away? If he did it once, he could do it again.
“It looks like you have a lot on your mind, and I’m not here to convince you of anything.
I’ll try to be a neutral third party. But Zack’s a catch.
” She laughs and I join her. I can’t blame her for talking up her son.
“Yes, I’m his mom, and I’m biased, but I know he cares about you very much, Evvy.
” Pam lets go of my hand and leans back in her chair, studying me.
“I care about you too. I know I haven’t seen you in many years, but I always thought so highly of you.
The most important thing is that you’re happy. ”
Hearing his mom’s kind words and thinking about our history makes me spiral.
“He left me,” I whisper. I don’t mean to say it.
The words leave my mouth before I can stop them.
“It was so hard. And I’ve spent years building my life back.
I…” I don’t know what else to say. This is really a conversation I need to have with Zack and not with his mom.
“You two should talk. I know that’s not the way he sees things.
I’m not saying you’re wrong either, honey.
Sometimes things just happen when people are so young and in love.
But the two of you are lucky because the universe is giving you a second chance…
if you want it.” Pam gazes somewhere off in the distance before returning her eyes to me.
“He never stopped caring about you, Evvy. Just hear him out.”
“Okay, I will.”
