29. Evvy
CHAPTER TWENTY-NINE
evvy
I wake up completely tangled with Zack. Our legs are twisted like a pretzel, and his fingers dance lightly over my skin.
It’s a feeling I’ll never take for granted, but it’s definitely something I could get used to waking up to every day.
I press my lips to his chest and he hums his approval.
His cock hardens against my thigh as my toes tickle his leg.
Over Zack’s shoulder, the New York City skyline comes into view, glowing under the rising sun. I grew up in Chicago and never appreciated the city like I do at this moment. I always dreamed of living in the country, and that’s where my heart is. But right now, this really is beautiful.
“You’re going to kill me, Evvy.” Zack laughs, brushing his lips over my forehead.
We went for three more rounds last night, sleeping between each one before waking up to do it all over again. Our final time was in the gorgeous hotel shower. The team really splurged on these rooms. Sex with Zack under a rainfall shower head was phenomenal.
“I hope you don’t get in trouble for letting me stay over.” I cup his face, enjoying the feel of his stubble beneath the palm of my hand.
“It’s definitely frowned upon, but Josie’s not going to tattle on herself to herself…or to management.” Zack laughs against my neck, sending shivers down my spine.
“Yeah, sleeping with her own husband is very scandalous. Total PR nightmare.” I stroke his cheek, loving the smile that spreads across his face.
“We were pretty scandalous too.” He bites my bottom lip with a laugh.
“Very.” I return the favor and Zack groans.
“I hate that you’re leaving today.” He drapes his arm around my waist, pulling me tightly against his chest. The team is leaving for California this afternoon, and they won’t be back until Sunday night.
As much as I wish I could travel with them, this wasn’t planned ahead of time, and I need to prepare for my return to work.
Josie is traveling with the team, so I’ll be flying back alone. I need to be at the airport in an hour.
I run my fingers through his hair and he lets out the most adorable whimper. Seeing the big, tough hockey player so soft for me is something I’ll never get used to.
“You’ll be home before we know it.”
“At least let me ride with you to the airport.” Zack leans closer, pressing our foreheads together.
“You know you can’t do that. I’ll be fine.” He brushes his nose against mine. “Besides, I’m sure your little group’s going to come rushing in here the second I’m gone.”
“My group?” He grins, pretending he doesn’t know what I’m talking about.
“They were texting you all night,” I say with a laugh. “Don’t you want to check it?”
“Nope, they need to work on boundaries, and you’re more important. I’m sure it says something ridiculous, and I’m spending every last second soaking you up, Evvy.”
And he does. We stay cuddled in bed, but the last twenty minutes go by too fast. Our time ends with a knock at the door. I throw on one of Zack’s T-shirts and crack open the door to find Josie waiting with my luggage.
“Have a good night?” She asks with a smile.
“Yes.” I can’t hide my grin. “We’ll talk when you get home. I have to get ready to leave.” I drag my suitcase into the hotel room.
“I’m holding you to that,” she says with a laugh. “Have a safe flight, Evvy.”
Josie leaves, and I rush to clean up in the bathroom before the car service shows up to take me to the airport. Zack insisted on ordering one for me.
“I’ll see you on Sunday, sweetheart.” He kisses me deeply, getting one last taste before I leave.
When we part, I step out the door and look back at Zack. “By the way, how many pieces of candy corn am I going to find waiting for me at your house?”
Zack drags his hand down his face with a grin. “You know?”
“I know. And it’s really sweet. Beyond sweet, but I think we have enough.”
Zack pulls me into a hug, pressing his lips to the top of my head. “We’ll see about that, my Halloween girl.”
