Chapter Five Rage #2

“Well I was actually looking for you, I guess it was more of this afternoon because you weren’t at your damn job when I got there. But I was walking to your room when the door opened and low and behold a short little woman popped out of it.

She was wearing what I would assume was your shirt because I don’t think girls nowadays wear giant ass t-shirts for dresses. Do they babe?”

“Hey! Don’t look at her for fucking help trying to bust my balls. It’s just a girl I met up with last night.” I refrain from saying anything else because Brock is back at his chair by the counter observing and listening to everything that is being said.

“Come on, Caleb. What’s going on? You never let a woman stay in your room overnight. I’ve also heard this isn’t the first time this girl has been there. So is she someone special?”

“No, she’s just someone I met through Peyton and Parker. We’ve just been hooking up. Don’t worry about it.”

Before he can say anything else the door opens again and we hear Trevor yell through the house.

I’m thinking about everything he said and who the hell is monitoring who comes and goes from my room and when.

I mean why the hell is who I stick my dick in anyone else’s business.

Everyone seems to be so obsessed with it.

I’m thankful that after Trevor gets there the topic changes to how everything is going with prospecting and we all sit down for dinner.

Dinner was amazing, Liz followed it with desert and I have know fucking idea how in the hell she has the time to make the full dinner and desert with all the kids she has at home, plus fucking Trevor who is still living at home at seventeen probably eating them out of house and home.

“Well I think I’m gonna head home.” I say as I make my way to the door.

“I’ll walk out with you.” Dad says.

Before we get to the door we hear a very loud high pitched squeal.

“WAIT!! I come too, daddy.” My sweet three year old sister, Sammy says as she launches herself at my dad. He chuckles before he bends down and picks her up, placing her on his hip as he walks barefoot out of the house.

“ You actually heading home or back to the clubhouse for the night? I haven’t seen your bike at your house much lately. I know you’re still getting everything set up and together, but I for sure thought you’d be spending more time there than your room at the clubhouse.

Then some nights I don’t even see your bike out in front of the club. Are you going to tell me what’s going on?”

I shake my head and look at my dad.

“Why does there have to be something going on? I don’t know why everyone is trying to make something out of nothing.”

“Caleb, son, I know you. You keep a lot of shit close to the chest, but you can talk to me. I hate hearing shit about my kids from gossip around the club. I’ve heard you’ve had a girl that’s been around for the past few months. What’s going on with that? That’s not like you.

You should bring her over sometime. I’d love to get to know her. I want you to be happy Caleb. You deserve to be happy and you deserve a woman that cares and loves you.”

The word love sends my head reeling. I feel like my heart is going to beat out of my chest.

I don’t think there is any love there, all we have is some nice fucking, okay excellent fucking, but still.

We do talk and I have learned a lot about Rose, probably more than I have about most women.

But you can tell we both keep a lot of shit to ourselves.

We’ve never really talked about where this thing is going or if it is even a thing. I try to calm my breathing down.

“Listen dad, I’m young, I still have a shitload of time before I want to settle down. I’m having fun. Just because everyone has seen one chick the past few months, doesn’t mean there hasn’t been anyone else I’ve been hooking up with. Sure Rose is fun, but what we have it’s not serious.

I don’t want to be serious, there are far too many women out there that enjoy my company.”

He gives me kind of a sad smile and I look at Sammy smiling up at me as her head is resting on dad’s shoulder.

“Caleb, you know I used to feel the same way.

I never thought I’d be the man to settle down, even when I met Liz.

I would’ve regretted not committing to her and letting go of all that easy pus-“ he looks down in his arms and I see Sammy look up at him and smile.

He clears his throat, “I would’ve regretted not giving her a chance and keeping up with the lifestyle I had. I wouldn’t have this life I’m living now. I wish I would’ve found something sooner, maybe it would’ve been more stable for you and for Trev.

I hate that you seem so cynical when it comes to women and relationships.”

“Dad, look, if you would’ve settled down sooner it would’ve been with a different bitch pretending or really having one of your kids. We both know that what you had with Liz wasn’t love. You barely knew her before you made her your ol’ lady.

You just didn’t want to be in another situation where you missed out on years of your kid’s life or even have another lady leave you with a baby.”

He gives me a look before he sets Sammy down.

“Tell your brother goodnight and then go inside and get ready for bed, okay baby?”

“Okay daddy.”

She comes up to me and gives me a big hug before she runs back inside.

“Is that what you think happened here?”

“Listen dad, can we not get into this right now. I’m going to head home. I want to get some shit together there. Maybe settle in a little bit. You don’t have to worry about anything. Don’t worry about it.”

I go to climb on my bike to head over to my house, but dad grabs my arm.

“Caleb, we should talk about this shit. I don’t want you to have these opinions and ruin any chance you could have at a healthy relationship. From what I’ve heard about this girl, she’s a real catch. The brothers talk about the way you look at her. Don’t do something stupid.”

“Don’t worry dad, she knows the drill. I’m sure she’s doing the same thing I’m doing.”

As I say that I know it’s a lie, I know that Rose is not out there sleeping with other men, just like I’m not sleeping with other women.

The way she makes me feel scares the shit out of me and I don’t know if I’m okay with it.

I think I have to put some distance between us before this gets messier than I’m ready for.

I start my bike and head home.
