Epilogue
T wo Years Later
I never thought I’d cry at a wedding.
Especially not my own.
But here I am—standing at the altar, holding our two-year-old son, Dylan, who’s got peanut butter on his chin and his tiny fingers tangled in my tux lapel—and I’m blinking fast because the moment Dora steps into view, the world just… stops.
She’s radiant.
Not just beautiful, but glowing —like she knows she survived the storm and came out of it stronger. More mine. Her dress hugs every curve I’ve worshiped in secret and in sin, and now, in the light of day, in front of everyone we love, I get to call her wife .
Forever.
Dean's in the front row, arms crossed, trying real hard not to cry. Proud as can be with his wife Lenny.
And my mom? She’s gone full waterworks.
The ceremony is small—Lake Tahoe, just family and close frien ds. The kind of setting Dora used to dream about, quietly, in that soft way she never thought anyone was really listening. But I was. I always was.
The officiant talks, but I barely hear him. I’m too busy watching her lips, the way her hands tremble slightly as I slide the ring on her finger. The same hands that held our son when he was first born. The hands that pulled me back into her life when I didn’t deserve it.
When it’s my turn, I keep it simple.
“I broke every rule to love you. I’d break them all again. You’re my home, Dora. You and Dylan. And I promise, from this day forward, I’ll never make you doubt it again.”
Her eyes fill, and so do mine. Dylan claps, completely missing the gravity of the moment.
I give her a kiss.
Longer this time. Deeper.
Because I can.
Later, there’s cake and dancing under a canopy of lights. Dylan falls asleep on my chest halfway through the reception, and Dora leans into my side with her hand on my thigh and her head on my shoulder. Soft. Solid. Ours .
She looks up and whispers, “I’m the happiest I’ve ever been.”
And I know exactly what she means.
I used to think I had everything—money, power, control.
But I didn’t know what everything really meant until her.
Until Dylan.
Until now.
We built a life from broken promises, second chances, and secret nights—and it’s messy, and loud, and far from perfect.
But it’s real .
And it’s forever.
