Chapter 21
The drive back to the safe house is a blur, my mind still reeling from the confrontation with Damian and the weight of the secrets I”ve kept for so long. Sasha sits beside me, her gaze distant, her face a mask of conflicting emotions. The silence between us is heavy, filled with unspoken questions and lingering hurt.
As we enter the bedroom, the dim light casts long shadows across the walls, mirroring the turmoil within me. I begin to pace the length of the room, the soft carpet muting my steps. Running a hand through my hair, I gather my scattered thoughts.
Turning towards Sasha, who sits on the edge of the bed, her posture tense, I take a deep breath. ”Sasha, there”s something I need to tell you. About Simon, and about my past.”
Her head snaps towards me in surprise. “About Simon? Okay… I’m listening.” Her eyes are guarded and wary.
I pace the room, running a hand through my hair as I gather my thoughts. ”I placed Simon in your life intentionally, to watch over you.” The words feel heavy on my tongue, the admission a weight I”ve carried for too long.
Sasha”s eyes widen, shock and betrayal flashing across her face. ”You did what?” she whispers, her voice trembling.
I reach for her hand, desperate to maintain a connection, but she pulls away. ”I couldn”t bear the thought of anything happening to you. I needed someone I trusted to keep you safe, even when I couldn”t be there.”
She shakes her head, disbelief and anger warring in her expression. ”So you manipulated my life, my relationships, without my knowledge or consent?”
The accusation stings, but I know I deserve it. ”I know it seems that way, but my intentions were pure. I only wanted to protect you.”
Sasha stands abruptly, pacing the room as she grapples with this revelation. ”I can”t believe you kept this from me. How am I supposed to trust you when you”ve been pulling the strings behind the scenes?”
I feel the weight of her words, the pain and betrayal I”ve caused. ”Sasha, please. I never meant to hurt you. I was scared of losing you, of failing you like I failed my team.”
She pauses, turning to face me. ”Your team? What are you talking about? You did everything you could; it wasn’t your fault.”
I close my eyes, the memories of that fateful mission rushing back, threatening to drown me in their intensity. ”The operation that went wrong, the one where Damian”s brother died... there”s more to the story than I”ve told you.”
Sasha”s brow furrows, confusion and concern etched into her features. ”What do you mean?”
I take a shaky breath, my hands clenching into fists at my sides. ”We weren”t supposed to go on that mission. I volunteered my squad, hoping it would secure my next promotion and get my men assigned to less harsh deployment.”
The words taste like ash in my mouth, the guilt and shame burning through me like acid. ”But it was a trap. We were ambushed, and I lost almost everyone. Derek was the only one who made it out with me.”
Sasha”s eyes widen, a mix of shock and empathy swirling in their depths. “Axel...”
I turn away, unable to bear the weight of her gaze.
I hear her step closer, feel the warmth of her presence at my back. ”But it wasn”t your fault, Axel. You couldn”t have known it was a trap.”
I shake my head, a bitter laugh escaping my lips. ”Couldn”t I? I was their leader, Sasha. It was my job to keep them safe, and I failed. I got them killed, all for the sake of my own ambition.”
The words hang heavy in the air, the truth of them settling over us like a suffocating blanket. I brace myself for Sasha”s reaction, for the disgust and condemnation I”m sure I”ll see in her eyes.
But instead, I feel her arms wrap around me from behind, her cheek pressing against my back. ”You made a mistake, Axel. A terrible, tragic mistake. But that doesn”t make you a monster.”
Her words are like a balm to my battered soul, a glimmer of light in the darkness that”s consumed me for so long. I turn in her arms, my eyes searching hers for any sign of deception or pity. But all I see is love, understanding, and a fierce determination.
”I”m so sorry, Sasha,” I whisper, my voice rough with emotion. ”I”m sorry for not trusting you, for keeping secrets, for pushing you away. I thought I was protecting you, but I see now that I was only hurting us both.”
She reaches up, her hand cupping my cheek with a tenderness that nearly undoes me. ”I forgive you, Axel. I know you were trying to do what you thought was right. I know that you were under an immense amount of pressure. As long as you promise me that there is nothing else you’re keeping from me. This is it—no more secrets.”
I nod, my throat tight with emotion. “I promise, Sasha. No more secrets. You’re my partner, my equal. I’ll never shut you out again.”
She smiles then, a real smile that chases away the shadows and fills the room with warmth. ”Good. Because I”m not going anywhere, Axel Creed. You”re stuck with me, for better or for worse.”
I pull her close, burying my face in her hair and breathing in the scent of her. ”I wouldn”t have it any other way.”
We stay like that for a long moment, wrapped in each other”s arms, the past and the future melting away until there”s only this, only us. And for the first time in longer than I can remember, I feel a spark of hope ignite in my chest.
Because with Sasha by my side, I know I can face anything. I know I can be the man she deserves, the man I want to be.
As we finally pull apart, Sasha looks up at me, her eyes shining with a mix of love and desire. Her fingers trail down my chest, leaving a path of fire in their wake. ”Show me,” she whispers, her voice low and inviting. ”Show me how much you love me, Axel.”
I capture her lips in a burning kiss, pouring every ounce of my love, my devotion, my gratitude into the embrace. My hands roam her body, relearning every curve and hollow, every secret place that makes her gasp and sigh.
We undress each other slowly, reverently, as if seeing one another for the first time. Each piece of clothing falls away, revealing more of our heated skin. I trail kisses along her neck, her collarbone, savoring the taste of her. Sasha”s hands explore my body, her fingertips tracing the lines of my muscles, igniting a fire deep within me.
I lower her gently onto the bed, our bodies pressing close together. The feeling of her soft curves against my hard planes is intoxicating. I kiss my way down her body, worshiping every inch of her silky skin. I tease and arouse her sensitive nipples with my tongue, delighting in the way she arches into my touch.
My hand slips between her thighs, finding her warm and ready for me. I stroke and caress her most intimate places, reveling in the way she moans my name. ”Axel, please...”
I kiss my way back up her body, claiming her lips in a passionate kiss. ”I”ve got you, baby. I”m going to show you what you mean to me.”
I position myself at her entrance, my heart pounding with anticipation. With a slow, gentle thrust, I enter her, savoring the exquisite feeling of being one with her. Sasha gasps, her nails digging into my shoulders as she adjusts to my size.
I start to move, slowly at first, letting her feel every inch of me. Our eyes lock, the intensity of our gaze speaking volumes. With each thrust, I pour my love into her, showing her with my body what words can never fully express.
Sasha meets me thrust for thrust, her hips rising to take me deeper. Our rhythm builds, the pace increasing as our passion soars. The room fills with the sounds of our lovemaking, with the whispered words of desire and devotion.
I feel her start to tighten around me, her breath coming in short gasps. ”That”s it, baby,” I encourage her. ”Let go. I”ve got you.”
With a few more deep thrusts, Sasha shatters in my arms, her climax triggering my own. I bury my face in her neck, muffling my shout of ecstasy as I empty myself inside her.
We cling to each other as we come down from our high, our bodies slick with sweat and satisfaction. I pepper her face with gentle kisses, whispering words of love and adoration.
”I love you, Sasha. More than anything in this world.”
She smiles up at me, her eyes shining with post-coital bliss. ”I love you too, Axel. Always.”
We stay like that for a long while, holding each other close, basking in the afterglow of our lovemaking. And as I look into her eyes, I see a future filled with love, with trust, with unbreakable bonds.
A future where we face everything together, hand in hand, heart to heart. A future where our love is the guiding light, the unshakable foundation upon which we build our lives.
And I know, with a certainty that reaches to the very core of my being, that I will spend the rest of my days loving this incredible woman, cherishing her, protecting her, and building a life together that is filled with joy, passion, and unending devotion.
Because she is my everything, my reason for breathing, my home. And I am hers, body, heart, and soul.
Forever and always.
