Chapter 63

THE SISTER

Hello, Sister.

Your daughter looks just like you, Faye. A little like me, too. No one can say my mother doesn’t have strong genes. What else did she pass down? That cruel streak? I know I have it, but what about you? And Claire?

Magnus hasn’t spoken to me for a very long time, hours now, but I have noticed him staring at Penny in the rearview mirror. It makes my entire body electric with rage, but I keep quiet. Swallowing it down and keeping it to myself, just like I learned as a child.

She is passed out in the backseat, tied up, against her will. She doesn’t want to be here, but I do. I’ve given up everything for Magnus, sacrificed my entire life, to come away with him. But he doesn’t seem to be grateful, and the way he looks at her makes me want to hurt her. Badly.

We drive north, miles and miles of remote countryside with no lights except for the headlights of our car carving through the darkness.

Now that we are on the news and the police are looking for us, Magnus thinks the bank transaction will fail, and our millions will have evaporated to dust. So, now we only have my money to live off.

He needs me more than he needs Penny. Tomorrow I will persuade him that she has to go. I hope he lets me decide how.

So, you see, dear sister, soon I will get my ultimate revenge on you. Your darling Penny will be ripped away from you forever.
