Chapter Four
Viktor
I’m sitting in my car staring at the therapy building, considering what to do next. Ada is still here, but now she is alone. I’m not sure how I feel about that.
I am trying not to get too hooked on her, but I am realizing that I am already obsessing over her, which will only lead to chaos. I should just go home, but I move my car to the parking lot and wait for her to leave. In the meantime, I call Carlo.
“Hey, man,” Carlo answers.
“She made me cry,” I say. “She had me opening up and telling her things I have never told anyone before.”
“I assume you want information about something?” he asks.
“Yeah. Her boyfriend’s name is Chris. She wouldn’t give a last name.
She gave Andre her pistol today, and she told him it was because he stole forty grand from her, and thinks he is on drugs and might kill himself, but I know that’s a lie.
She also told me that Chris took her dead parents’ wedding bands, which are engraved with their anniversary on the inside.
I think he’s already gotten rid of them, but she basically said that she is stuck because she won’t walk away until she gets them back,” I explain.
“So I want the rings found, and I want to know who Chris is.”
“Got it. I’ll do my best,” he says. “You like her, don’t you?”
“More than I should,” I admit.
