Chapter 29
Jacob was probably around somewhere. The big truck he drove everywhere, with that stupid drunk looking guy for a logo was right there.
It had a nasty new dent on the front passenger panel now.
Jacob was always complaining about hitting things alongside the road.
No doubt their dad would handle the repairs, and get Monroe Tyler to give them a discount on the cost. If Jacob bothered at all.
Not like Jacob cared about anything.
Get Trash’d Removal Service had originated about fifteen years ago.
The guy who’d started it had had a weird sense of humor.
The logo looked like a drunk guy in his forties, with a beer belly and suspenders.
It had always turned Kameron’s stomach a little—especially as Jacob started to look more and more like the guy on that truck.
His brother just didn’t care about how he looked to people at all. Kameron could kind of understand that, but there was a difference between being yourself and being gross. Personal hygiene shouldn’t be optional.
Kameron wanted to talk to his dad again.
The landlord was talking about hiking rent again—and in Kameron’s opinion, this place didn’t warrant what that asshole was charging.
He had a new place out on Old Beise Road, he’d be more than happy for his dad to live there and just help with the upkeep of the place.
He’d even let Jacob stay there, too, if he kept it clean.
And he could charge the half rent his dad was paying now.
It was a sturdy place. His dad would be okay there, and it was closer to his dad’s work anyway.
But his dad had this weird hang-up about what he said was taking charity from Kameron. Something tied to Kameron’s mom, he thought. But it wasn’t that. It wasn’t.
His dad and brother were arguing when he stepped inside. Then Kameron was dragged into it. Jacob just wouldn’t leave him alone.
Ten minutes later, Kameron was leaving. His dad and brother obviously didn’t care what he thought, nor did they want his help. And he couldn’t keep doing this—trying to fix what Jacob did to his dad all the time. When did his dad have to take responsibility for how Jacob treated their dad himself?
Kameron was going to stop worrying about two grown men. It was time he focused on the woman he loved. Building a life for himself, and a future.
Quinn was what mattered most. Period.
He was tired of getting himself all churned up, trying to keep his brother from abusing their dad. If their dad never even tried to stop it, why should Kameron?
His dad had told him himself Jacob was his father’s son. He had to do whatever it took for Jacob.
It was always for Jacob when he and his dad argued.
There wasn’t anything their father wouldn’t do for Jacob.
Hell, he’d probably cover up a murder for Jacob, too.
Because Jacob was so precious, and was so hurt by life, he needed extra help.
What he needed was to get off his ass and build a real life for himself.
His dad was so screwed up where Jacob was concerned. Kameron just couldn’t keep doing it.
It was time he focused on his own future now.
And that meant…Quinn.
